  • The paintings of the author Laura Limbourg (*1996) enriches the Czech painting scene with exotic themes. However, their role is deliberately ambivalent, contradictory, provocative and sometimes even irritating. The picture here is often not what it seems at first glance. The selected narratives do not refer to the innocence of distant paradise regions, where one can still disappear, get lost or escape from the all-absorbing mechanism of accelerated Western society and one’s own alienation, in a Gauguinian way - on the contrary, they tell about the fact of their domestication by a globally permeable economy and liquid capital. Cruel events often take place in images that appear naive, sentimental and romantic at first glance, which best reveal the shadows of global civilization skillfully cast in the most remote parts of the planet, only to show its acceptable face elsewhere.
