I am noticing a lot of other youtubers who do dark subject matter to be educational yet entertaining about it are leaning more and more into the entertainment part of it to the point where it starts to feel a little exploitative.
I've felt the same to be quite honest. It's like they're trying to create outrage porn at this point to the point they're actually harming victims. Look at how badly the facebook sting was handled and because of it the guy got away with it. Also I find some pedo hunter youtubers with shady pasts of their own need to stop. Chasing predators isn't a "get out of jail free" card that clears out your past sins.
@graymads Kinda like what's going on with MamaMax right now and if you call them out on it, they or their audience will call YOU a creep. Watch, some people will call you a predator for calling this out.
thank you for bringing up anxiety war! as someone who's suffered from predators online, he is the ONLY youtuber who I've believed in his escapades. he uses himself as the decoy, goes after both queer and straight predators, takes his time with catching them, and confronts them in understated, realistic ways. not every one of his videos ends in a big blowout either! sometimes he just follows them in his car as they circle a graveyard. he's a testament to the fact that there's real people who do care about these issues and want to do something about it.
@@graymadsYou should see the things he does outside of predator “catching”, I added those quotation marks bc he hasn’t led to the arrest of a single predator. His local police department told him to stop his vigilantism, and to this day he still refuses.
I will never forgive Chris Hansen for that time when my Uncle Ernie got wrongfully convicted for trying to meet up with a 13 year old girl. Ernie thought it was an obese hairy man on the other side of screen and definitely isn’t a pedo.
On the one hand, it's good to expose why this completely destroys their social life and makes their families aware of what these monsters are doing. But without the police and an investigation, like EDP, we would be left with the work incomplete. I believe that exposing it is still more important. Unfortunately, that's how the game is on TH-cam and on TV, so I don't think there's much to criticize about people turning it into entertainment. I just believe that sometimes by ridiculing predators so much we forget how dangerous these monsters are, it's like playing with a snake and making fun of that snake forgetting that its venom can kill you.
Daniel Larson is a great example of a ridiculed predator that we often forget how violent and dangerous he actually is These people are criminals, these people are extremely dangerous and can destroy the lives of many people if the police do not act.
Many MANY years ago my friends and I created and filmed a sketch called "to catch a snuggler". This was before TH-cam was even a thing. We filmed our partners cuddling a man sized teddybear (because we had one), bursting into the room and arresting it. "It" being the teddybear. Was it in poor taste? Probably. Was it funny? Not really. Anyway. Good video.
The recent influx of internet vigilantism definitely rubs me the wrong way. It's one thing to expose someone's bad actions or illegal activities to warn others or help in bringing them to justice, it's another to just bring them up to make them an easy target of ridicule and harassment. It often feels really mean-spirited and sadistic with how pointless most of it is, completely abandoning any intention or proper procedure to bring them to justice and just to insult and bully them on camera for no real gain but clout. Predators have been converted from "A real danger that one should be wary of" to "Someone you can harass for free internet points".
It's absolutely absurd. Not to mention the actual innocent people wrongly accused, so much as saying something during an argument, taken out of context and viewed as "problematic" could get you thousands of death threats, loss of employment, etc. Even your family would get doxed and harassed for something they likely had nothing to do with I hate this culture of "durr we gotta hold people accountable!" No. That's not your motivation, that's not what you're doing. It's always bitter and evil people that participate lol.
I've always hated To Catch a Predator. I've always thought of it as needlessly cruel, but explotative is a much better way to put it. I'm a therapist now and my internship was working entirely with convicted sexual offenders. Offenders are normal ass people who make terrible, decisions that resonate through many, many people's lives. Far beyond the impact of their victim. Friends, partners, family members, and entire communities are affected by these people and they need to be held accountable. Jail time is more than justified for anyone who offends and too many people are never caught despite the negative impact they've had on other people. And, in my experience, most offenders are normal-ass people. Usually people you know personally in your life who experienced long periods of emotional and social isolation, alcohol abuse, and availability to a victim -- usually seen as a form of escapism. I hate To Catch a Predator because it exploits human beings; people who are not all that different from you and me. We're all capable of harm. If you think you aren't then you haven't been pushed far enough to ever think that you might have to compromise on your morals, virtues, or beliefs. Public shaming on national television makes this problem much, much worse than you may think. Vulnerable people who may make the choice to harm someone else choose to never say anything or ask for help for fear of social suicide. So they secret-keep, isolate and make their problems much, much worse in interest of self-preservation. So many victims could be spared if people felt they could get help before they do something that could seriously hurt someone else -- especially a child. Righteousness, revenge, spite, contempt, loathing, and hate are all very strong emotions, but none are justice. None are productive, constructive or helpful. Nobody who sexually offends should be allowed to escape consequences for their actions, but I don't believe they are free-game for exploitation -- especially in entertainment. If you want do take real action to help the very real problems of sexual offending then there are much, much better things you could be doing to help.
I would appreciate if you would citate where you get your info from. It sounds very unprofessional and people could start thinking that you're just exaggerating when it comes to talking about serious themes like most of yours.
I didnt know you needed three ads in a video to catch predators. Thats just the ones the channels themselves put in. Thats not including the ones TH-cam put in because they dont turn off that because children are just a way of making money. They are no better than the predators, their prize is just different.
see I can careless about ads, make your money if you need. For me its the intent. Are you actually trying to bring justice? Or are you just using a sensational topic to grift easy views and good PR?
@@graymadsI see their constant need to bring up paying them as their intent. If it was just one at the beginning or end of a video, fine. You do gotta make money and there is work put into it, but most of the ones I see bring it up multiple times throughout the video. It shows that they value the money first and foremost and children are just their source of income.

Look, if any cheese pizza seeker catchers are reading my comment, here's the deal. IF You can catch the cheese pizza seekers, NOT botch the sting, & get hard evidence, then get them arrested, convicted & lastly jail time + ARE S OH status, hey have fun while doing this. Be as entertaining & funny as you want to be. But you MUST ACTUALLY do those 6 things. Always. If you don't do these 6 things in every sting, you are not actually a public servant you are nothing more than an attention seeker.
This feels like a whole lot of pointing fingers. Blah blah blah exploitation. Inserts clip of show that is supposedly exploitative that we are supposed to laugh at. But according to you, if its exploitative then we shouldn't laugh, but you inserted a clip from the show like its funny. But i thought you said it was exploitation. Oh but only when nbc posts it not you okay
