I like this game and its so powerful to me because i have been all the characters at some point in my life. Anya in my young life, bent by tradgedy and abuse, daisuke in my teens, trying to be optimistic and using humor to survive hardship. Jimmy in my 20's, a jackass, blaming everyone else while pretending i can fix and control everything. Swansea in my late 20's early 30's, recovering from substance abuse, weary beyond my years, jaded and frustrated that these kids around me can't get their heads out of their asses. And currently curly, tasked with responsibility of some flawed kids piloting the ship of my household, standing on top of a short ladder, unsure of whether to jump to the next ladder or stay where its safe. Even went thru being a manager when the store had to close, and having to have that conversation with me employees.
Love how you pointed out how Jimmy thinks Curly would want to be the 'sacrificial lamb' referring to the part where Jimmy was talking with Curly who was burning. It just clicked to me it makes a lot of sense in that regard especially how in the Bible how fire is associated with God and the symbolism it comes with the lamb being a sacrifice to Him. Just two ideas used synonymously is just amazing. That symbolism would never make any sense to me on my own so you pointing it out was just mind-blowing edit: would it also be possible to imply that Jimmy thinks he's god too? Considering he thinks he could also be a 'hero' by saying "We can both be heroes" (like bro you're not). Anyway this game is cool and packed with symbolism. Either they were intentional or up for the viewer's perception. It's what makes this game amazing to me
Another explanation I heard that made sense to me was that since she was sa'd, the act of forcing something down Curly's throat with him making the gagging sounds and resisting reminds her of what was done to her, which is why she "can't bear to listen" Not sure if this is addressed here, just started the video and saw this comment
I think Swansea killed Daisuke and said to Jimmy "he's no longer going to suffer because of your delusions" Because he somehow knew that he was harming Curly in his vulnerable state and thought theres a high risk that he would do the same to Daisuke.
I do think that the ladders & signs were dreamt by Curly, for he's the 1 who ignored the red flags in Yimpy's behavior & he was manipulates by Yimpy to doubt himself via the "corporate ladder" comments he keeps making.
This was perfect, you should cover manhunt next , either the series or the 1st game. I know its been covered to death but I feel like your opinion and perspective on it would be really interesting😁
This was really my sh*t. I've loved the "action" parts how much I've loved the walking sim/dialogue parts. And all the spite... God, I've loved It all. ❤
@@ddsargilla It is a small detail, but still one that can break the viewer’s attention. I love mads’ videos, this doesn’t change that, but saying an entirely different word than the character’s actual name made me go “wait what?” and rewind to make sure I heard that right lol. So imo it’s fair for people to bring attention for the creator to please cross-reference name pronunciation in the future, especially when it’s a near 2 hour video where the same mistake can be repeated.
38:32 No, they're there because of the crew's actions. What they were carrying is totally irrelevant. It very well *could've been* life-saving research and it would've changed absolutely nothing. If anything, since you can't eat research, they'd all have died much more quickly. This is Anya's fault for ignoring Curly's orders, Curly's fault for ignoring Jimmy's behavior (and management's orders), Swansea's fault for not being a team player and Jimmy's fault for being the straw that broke the camel's back.
Curly told them what management said. If Jimmy had not crashed the ship they would have delivered the mouthwash and went back to life. Jimmy SA’s Anya which changes her life forever. Ana hid the gun knowing that she was not safe as long as jimmy knew where it was. Swansea was a team player before the crash even trying to keep the cargo intact until Jimmy convinced them it was better to look than die. Daisuke was mortally wounded because Jimmy convinced him to go into the vent to save Curly. He drugs Swansea to do this, with a spike cocktail. Curly just ignored Jimmy’s behavior and didn’t take him seriously when he suggested they crash the ship. The whole game from that point goes exactly how Jimmy imagined it “a tragic accident” when in reality he didnt want to face what would happen to him when they got home and the truth came out. Had Curly not tried to save the ship, they would have all died in the impact. Each persons death is directly correlated with Jimmy trying to be “In control” but never being the one to do the actual work. Jimmy wanted control, he was Jealous of Curly and the love he received from the crew. which is why it was so easy for him to frame curly for the crash to make him look like the bad guy. I would not say they were not being a team player. They were operating in defense of themselves against Jimmy who had no checks to his power even when curly was alive.
@@Mahoganytheeassassin Upon reassessment, the only thing that changes based on what you've said is the idea of Swansea being a team player. He clearly wasn't. He specifically saved the cryogenic chamber for Daisuke instead of leaving it to a democratic vote. He allowed Jimmy to take the Captain's position, knowing that it would be a bad idea. In any case, Swansea is debatable, but everything else that I've said remains true.
@@AdanSolas I understand your point but I challenge you to think about why they were doing these things in the first place. The situation they were placed in is not normal and desperation makes people do thing they normally wouldn’t. There is alot of personal responsibility that is not taken by alot of the crew, but the crash is what starts all of the events. The crash happened because of one person. He crashed the ship because he didn’t want to deal with the consequences of what he did to Anya. The events would not have unfolded in the game the way they did if he never crashed the ship. Everything that happens after the crash on everyone else’s part is out of desperation, if the crash never happened everyone would have made it back home to live what ever lives they could make for themselves. Even if the crash still happens and Anyone else takes control, they still would have all starved to death, or suffocated because they are lost in space with limited food, even less oxygen, no communication to get help, and a company that just went under. In other words, no one was coming to save them. The moment he crashed the ship he doomed everyone. Swansea understood their situation and acted in Daisuke’s best interest. Anya was trapped with her abuser and no help, Daisuke was too inexperienced to really make a difference. Curly can only watch. Could things have been done different yes , could they have come together after the crash and exiled him, yes, but would they have been saved, would it change their situation enough to save every one on the ship, No. once the crash happened he pretty much sealed their fate, and no amount of accountability, teamwork, and punishment will save anyone from the vacuum of space with limited oxygen and food.
Anya deserved better, and all my homies hate Jimmy 🫶
The name Jimmy always tends to be a bad omen
@@graymads Apart from Jimmy Hopkins
Jimmy has to be one of the most reprehensible protagonists we’ve had in a good while literally no redeeming qualities
@@graymads So does that make James guilty by association? *remembers silent hill 2.* ...you may be on to something.
Swansea literally states his reason for withholding the information about the cryopod
Based on in-game dialogue, it's heavily implied Swansea was saving the cryopod for Daisuke.
And that's why you don't go into outer space. Restrain your hubris.
