Replacing back speaker in a 08-13 crew cab Chevy Silverado No adapter needed! Cheap fix!

  • The factory rear speakers in a 2008 Crew Cab Silverado seem to be a common problem. I couldn't even get mine to buzz or pop when I bought it. The speakers are made into a plastic bracket that attaches to the door with one screw. You can buy the bracket aftermarket along with a wiring adapter to install any universal speakers. My dad had the idea to use the old speaker and cut it up and use the pieces to adapt a universal speaker. All I had to buy was a cheap speaker set from Walmart. It worked great so maybe this will save y'all some money. Thanks dad for the idea and the assistance filming. Also I didn't show it in the video but I went back and put shrink tubing over the 2 bare wires on the speaker before putting the door panel back on.
Any 5.25" speaker should work as long as it will fit inside the bracket. But here is the link to the speakers I used: www.walmart.com/ip/Scosche-HD...
Thanks for watching. Hope it works for you!

Thank you! I just recently bought a 2007 Silverado and my speakers and the rear crew cab doors are not working. I am going to try this out with those same speakers. Thanks

Great! But leaving the copper wires exposed could lead to a blown radio amp. The two wires can touch and short out or they can ground on something metal inside. I'd pull them out and insulate them in heat shrink tubing. Other wise great fix. Oh and for positive and negative: left rear door brown is positive and yellow is negative. Right rear door dark blue is positive and light blue is negative.

Definitely a good point! Thank you for the input. I did go back and put heat shrink on the wires before putting the door panel back on but didn't put that in the video. I need to go in and add that note to the video.

Much faster and less stinky to just cut the plastic with some side cutters then cut the remainder with a cut off wheel with a rotary tool and then smooth it out like you did with a sanding wheel. The melting was really not the best way to go.
