    John Perez
Band names don’t come much gnarlier than Rotting Corpse, but guitarist John Perez had his reservations when it was bestowed upon his mid-80s Texas thrash crew. He later formed doom metal stalwarts Solitude Aeturnus and dabbled in psych metal with Liquid Sound Company. He joins us to discuss the early Texas thrash scene, touring with Paul Di’Anno, his record label, tour managing Candlemass, St. Vitus and others, and why Hell’s Heroes 2024 was the perfect gig.

I've been friends with JP since 1986 when I first saw Rotting Corpse in San Antonio. He's the REAL DEAL when it comes to all things music, and such a nice guy (like you, Jason). Thanks for flying the Texas metal flag high & proud! 🤘

What a great chat! Once again, thank you! Couldn't find a much better way to waste an hour and a half of my time. I didn't find Solitude Aeturnus until they released Beyond the Crimson Horizon but it was love at the first sight. I was mesmerized. The haunting, soaring vocals backed up by this raw, menacing yet somehow sorrowful and beautiful music grabbed me from the first notes of Seeds of the Desolate. Sadly I've never had the chance to see the band live though.

I hope you get to see them live someday. It's worth a roadtrip or flight if they play again!

Great Episode. John nailed it as he described the ritual of listening to LP’s on vinyl with friends. It is much more deliberate and social as opposed to the immediacy of streaming or fast clicking thru CD tracks. Thank you for bringing awesome to the podcast as always.

I used to live across the street from Pipedream Records when John worked there. Fun times!
