    I’m a spec and detail nerd down to the smallest detail, which is why your videos are great. I have a few questions for you or anyone else. 1. Is this louder than the Lofree flow or Nuphy air series? 2. My only complaint is how tall the back of it is, how much taller is it compared to other low profiles? If you had to pick one for portability, which one would you choose?

  • @bipolar-tiger
    @bipolar-tiger 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +96

    Hey Hipyo, Could you do a video about travel keyboards? I'm sure many people would appreciate light, compact and quiet keyboards for work and travel. (I won't complain about no numpad this time) 😅
    This one would be very good. But you could help us pick out a few more for choices. And maybe a few plastic cases for less weight too.

    Just bought it. This is a solid improvement over the Keychron I've been using. Not just the sound but as you pounted out, the feel of typing is actually really enjoyable. Like, I enjoy typing with it. A lot. And it's a very solid board. Hefty and premium. Figured out how to adjust volume so I don't miss having dedicated buttons for that and the F keys, I'm not too pressed on. I plan on getting a macropad anyway. Only thing I wish is if it had a nice shiny metal backplate. Definitely deserves it's place amongst the other highlighted low-profiles.

    my only issue with this keyboard out of the box is there's no tilde. FN+esc which would normally do it on a 65% was dedicated to power on/off. it was quickly fixed through via, which i love, but i would rather just have a physical toggle for on/off. otherwise, this is my new favorite keyboard.

  • @bluephreakr

    I have a _fascinating_ question for the audience; are there ways to use surplus laptop keyboards inside of a press-fit case that emulates how they'd be installed in a laptop (through friction and tabs alone or by mounting with a top-mount plate), but with QMK support and a space with trackpad where an SBC can be installed to handle inputs?
    Basically, taking laptop components, and turning them into fully-functional keyboards as a means of conserving resources and preventing e-waste from tossing out whole laptops even if much of the components outside the motherboard still have utility. Maybe Hipyo can make some fun videos about that
    Perhaps, taking a broken laptop and harvesting the display for a portable video solution, and keyboard / trackpad for input, then pairing it with a mini-PC to create an ersatz Mac Mini; moreso if an Intel-based machine can be hackintosh'd.

    • @incongruous4
      @incongruous4 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Can't do qmk support because that requires a mcu compatible with it such as atmega32u4, at90usb1286 etc. and if the laptops keyboard's mcu is able to flash qmk firmware onto it, you'd still need to put the laptops mcu into bootloader mode which is a challenge in itself. Those things just aren't designed for it.
      But putting the laptops keyboard inside a case to make it into a standalone keyboard is like kind of possible in theory. You'd need to find the dimensions for every angle of the keyboard, then could do something like 3d print a case for it, but It would be janky at best. Then you would need to figure out the ribbon cable situation. They're usually very short and unprotected. You'd need to find a compatible ribbon cable that's much longer, and ideally find a way to protect it since it's now exposed.
      I don't know everything in the world so I could be wrong and there could be an easier way, but overall, IMO it's not worth the effort.

    I wish you had like video guides for custom keyboard builds and for different price ranges. And I mean full build guide for each that's long and goes through every step. Price ranges could be $100, $200, $300, $400, $500 and you could go up to $1000. Which could make this a 10 video series and every time someone wanted to build a keyboard with a certain budget, they could find it on your channel, cause nobody has done a full price range, long, video guides- at least I can't find anybody that has. It would honestly be very helpful for alot of people. And you could go for a certain switch set and just recommend different switches for if people want a different sound profile. Please please please.

    Just got the keyboard. Overall, I'm very happy, and it is also my first mechanical keyboard. It looks nice, feels nice, and also sounds really nice.
    I have a few, relatively minor misgivings -- maybe some of you also have suggestions to resolve those:
    1) On Mac, the F-Keys don't work reliably. Yesterday they did work at one point, now they don't. I didn't really do anything. Since it's a 65% keyboard, it would be nice, but I have no idea what's going on.
    2) Maybe i't just me, but I find that the switches are very sensitive. And when I type on this keyboard using my sausage fingers and minutely bump an adjacent key, a keystroke gets registered. Maybe I need to get used to this, but this I find a bit annoying. I am going to give it some time, but should I want to change the switches, would you recommend the Kailh ghost or phantom ones?

    Are you going to test the Vulcan II TKL Pro? It's available for around 150€ right now, and I would think from the specs alone it's a cheaper and good alternative to the Wooting. Gateron switches, pretty good oiled, although a bit more hallow than my 60HE. I'm very surprised with the offering as I'm not particular a fan of TB. Seems like they might have a very good product here for once.

    There's only one question that needs to be asked, "Is the knob creamy, will it always be creamy, or will the creamy-ness come and go?" Ha ha.

    The creamy sound for me doesn't have the "ick" sound in Tick... this keyboard has a deep T but at the end it gives you the ick clearly. I think the Epomaker Galaxy 70 has a creamier sound, but there are some features that are missing, like a phisical switch for wifi to bluetooth and windows to mac. AND apparently the in software key combination switch bugs out when switching from mac to windows.

    I kinda do love my low profile keyboards. Mostly I love the responsive feeling they have due to the faster activation point and smaller bottom out. The typiing and gaming experience just feels way better. My current board is actually almost silent but the little sound it does have is just not very pleasant. I have one that sounds good but I didn't care for the switches and keycaps. Sadly feeling trumps sound any day.
    I did end up backing the melgeek made 84 pro, I have wanted to swap to hall effect switches for a while now. I think it will have the nice sounds combined with the responsive feeling I am used to. Especially since I have heard good things about the switches they are going to use.

    Is this made with choc v1 switches? The lofree kaihl switches are choc v2 and be therefore not compatible with this board in terms of hotswap. Please correct me if I’m wrong here though!
