Rich collectors love an auction battle, it doesn't matter what they're bidding on. With all the hype, the skies the limit on price! Let's see what's in the boxes, always good content.
I m disappointed that Donal Gallagher has decided to auction Rory's guitar. He should of given the IG first option of buying the guitar. If he has a modicum of decency about him and if the bidding becomes to high then he should withdraw from sale and do a deal with the IG to buy what is part of Irelands musical legacy.
I think 400k to 600k max.but i love rory i hope it stays in ireland for 2 millions.this is were it belong.same for gary moore greeney it should have stayed in the uk.👍❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤❤
The estimates on ultra high end stuff is always set very low. No idea why as i dont run an auction house. Maybe it brings in more bidding registrations.
For me this would be more collectable than the Gilmour black strat. After all, that was only a CBS-era body with reissue neck. No Pink Floyd classics were played with that configuration, so yeah, it was bit silly money. I think this will fetch similar money as Clapton Blackie.
I‘d love to know where the rumour comes from that Rory‘s Strat was the first in Ireland! I own a 1961 red fiesta Strat from Ireland starting with serial number 63… which is from Walton’s Dublin. This definitely is older than Rory‘s Strat
If two rich Rory fans have an auction battle then it could end up at an amazing price. But what are the chances of that? Gilmour sold a lot more albums so the number of rich people that he reached was much higher. Rory might be iconic but didn't have that big an audience. If you look at the recent Bernie Marsden auction the prices achieved were quite modest - remember he listed his Les Paul for 1.3 million, far below what Greeny achieved (but Greeny did have a much more intresting pedigree). Anyone thinking they might have their sneaky bid of 20k accepted is having a laugh though - it's a 61 Strat and 'any old' 61 Strat is going for that, never mind one with massive provenance. It's impossible to call.....except it's going to be more than 20k.

Interesting vid - hope it goes to a guitar player. Wonder how much Keefs Micawber would sell for ? Actually a dumb question as Keith’s going nowhere 🎸😂
I like the 2 mill prediction. Depends on how Jim Isray and Joe Bonamassa are feeling that day (just kiddin). But seriously I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t hit that 2 mill mark.
IMO without this guitar the relic industry wouldn’t look the same, if indeed it would exist at all. I also think that Eire ought to have this as an important piece of 20th Century Irish cultural history, but I doubt their government would be up for the bidding war that could easily ensue when this goes up to the block. IMO it’s worth as much if not more than any other similarly iconic electric guitar that has gone on sale ever. I don’t know what DGs classic black Strat eventually sold for but I expect Rory’s Strat to go for at least the same.
Strange to have an opinion on how the Irish government may act when you don’t know the name of the country. Eire hasn’t been used for almost 8 decades and was contentious at the time.
There are some very wealthy collectors out there, who don’t even play guitar, that are probably interested. One of them may be a big Rory fan, and completely blow away any other participating bidders!
Jim Isray will buy it. He snaps up every iconic guitar that comes up for sale. Money is no object for him. Whatever anyone bids he'll just pay more. I think it's more about the winning for him than any love for music. My guess is £800K. Ideally, the Irish government's bid would win. Keep it at home for all the people to go see. Romantic notion, but we'll see.
This absolutely HAS to go for over 2 million! We are talking about one of the most iconic guitars in history. I think even your estimate is conservative mate. You thinking of trying to snag one of his treble boosters? I'd love to see you guys reverse engineer it like Flynn amps did woth the Hawk booster (I love mine).
I had one for 3995 euro, put it in the case and after your story i am glad, no over the top happy! Do you know how many there are........? Thanx for posting brother! ♨️🎸🥳🎸♨️
I was fortunate enough to hear Joe Bonamassa play it at the Albert Hall and it was the best sounding guitar ive ever heard. And Joe had the Beast and Greeny that night too. Personally i hope Joe buys it but i cant see that happening. I doubt our government will step in and get it either. They have enough problems. I just hope it doesn't end up locked in a vault forever. Id say you're bang on on price though. Its such an iconic instrument. It'll go for more. How many packets of Haribo do you reckon we could trade for it? I'll start buying some. 50 billion packs of starmix and 20 billion tang fastics 🤣
I doubt bonnamasa buys it but it’s certainly possible. Steven segal may get it. It’s definitely a guitar he would be interested in. But it will go to one of the high end collectors.
Damn it i wish i was rich. I would pay whatever it took to get it. I love rory gallagher! He was such a good player and such an entertainer. I don’t think his sweat was that acidic i just think there was so much of it on the guitar every night. Rory would be pouring sweat because he was giving it his all.
I can't see the all the fuss I'm afraid. A nice guitar is a nice guitar. All the hype surrounding the guitar is driving the price up. Is it worth more or less than "Greeny" or the "Beast" or "Blackie"? Owning the above guitars won't make you sound like players who owned them. For me the recordings are more precious😀
Hey if I'm proven wrong in saying this then so be it but I don't think Rory or his Strat have quite the "reach" that us musos and guitarists maybe think it has, or should have. So the current "official" estimates are, to my mind, a little high. I'm not trying to stir the wrath of Rory fans here but he is no David Gilmour. Or Kurt Cobain etc... Should be be??? Well, maybe he should! But I don't think this guitar is quite as "desired" as many are suggesting. But all this recent hype and vids like this could just bump it up. As I say that's my take but happy if I get proven wrong.
Imo after how low the fool sold for I would predict around a million $ but it can go as high as the black strat as long as there are two fans that are rich and crazy enough😅
Coming from two people who can't even spell Gilmore. Rory's stray should be considerably closer to the Black Stray than many other high profile guitars. I'd say a pound for every person who saw Rory play it on stage would be a good price and I'm sure Brian May would bung a few quid into the pot too
Most people in the US don't know who he is. I'm 58 years old, and have been playing all my adult life. I can't name one Gallagher tune, wouldn't know one if I heard one. He's not even close to Stevie Ray Vaughan in popularity.
I live in the UK and don't really have much of a sense of him from hearing his tunes played out. I'm sure he's good, but hea his material hasn't really popped up all that much
SOLD. Original estimates were pretty close in the end.
I remember that strat when I saw Rory play live at Winterland in San Francisco in the early 70's.

Id say 2M Euros. Also, the sweat isnt what removed the finish. He used to clean it with bike chain cleaner. He said it in an interview
That's very interesting. Good to know! Always wondered..

£3,000,000. I'd like to see the guitar stay in Ireland. "Packed my things in an overnight bag. A toothbrush and a guitar, got no tail to drag"
