very good solo! I liked the little Don't Tread on Me-style lick at the very end. You played in style of Kirk (and a lot of other minor pentatonic lovers xd )and it suited very well, thinking of the powerchords beneath the solo. of course the rhythms were very much on spot. a huge like and a subscribe from me!

I have to say, when this song came out, I listened to it a lot. Then, this video showed up on my account, so I played it. First, I love how you make this seem so easy. Second, I like how you generally avoided eye contact with the camera. All too often, musicians on YT mug for the camera. Once in a while is fine, but no offense to anyone who puts up these videos, but I am not looking at your face. I am looking at picking, finger placement, and performance. And third, I LOVE the multicam. It turned a typical medium shot into an exciting visual. Not only do I appreciate your playing, but your presentation is top notch. You have a new subscriber. My hat is off to you.

Kirk used to be a decent guitarist,back in the 80's,nowhere near the level of other known metal players of the time,like Skolnick,Shuldiner,Criss Oliva,Jeff Waters,Chris Poland or Marty Friedman,but he did a good job.
Since the ''Black Album'' though,he has completely dropped the ball,he just abuses the wah pedal and plays some random pentatonics,the guy doesn't even try anymore and his live performances are also very bad.I don't know if he's too lazy or just doesn't give a shit anymore,because the majority of the Metallica fans will give him a pass.

band77one Yes,Criss Oliva was a monster,up there with Randy Rhoads,EVH or 80's Yngwie and I find it sad that most people have never heard of him and he gets zero coverage on major guitar magazines.The riffs and solos on the ''Hall of the Mountain King'',''Gutter Ballet' and ''Edge of Thorns'' albums are mindblowing.

I actually think that this song has better solo than in the Hardwired. Still not as good as the older ones back in the day.
***** I liked the direction kirk was taking with the hardwired solo, seemed like something straight off one of their older albums to start, but it felt way too short to me.
You got to remember, Ulrich has way more say than Kirk does in song parts now, compare to when Newsted and Cliff were in the band. So, if there were the longer songs Metallica was known for (experimenting with song structure), Kirk (his prime) would be going ham on this solos - pissing off every other dickrider of Thrash bands who have this irrational, blind hatred of his own style (who forget Kirk was an amazing guitarist who changed his style on their 1st 5 albums).
I own the tab book for AJFA, and god damn....the creativity, compositional approach, etc, the dude can be as expressive as Marty when he feels like it, but you know..Megadick stans...

i think each of us has a different definition of a "masterful" composition, i think that kirk's solo is just based of his usual style, which to some people is good.
