Kirk has never played his solos this way in live. This is great. And this guy has a great feeling also playing the rhythm parts and he uses the guitar pick with his finger at once in rhytmn patern and this sounds very good.

***** the riff from 2:00 to 2:15 to is supposed to be played differently, just write "spider chords" in the youtube search bar, it's a technique made popular by dave mustaine.
I can't remember what interview I heard it in but even Dave said that there are I believe he said three different ways he plays Symphony of Destruction just based on the mood he's in and only one is the spider chord that he made famous for using in it.

Dude I have a serious question. How did you learn to play guitar? Did you take classes or are you self taught? I'm asking because I'm a young guitarist looking for anything to help me advance my guitar skills. Please take a moment to reply, it'd be very much appreciated.
Daniel Mattarp I completely agree. In my personal opinion I would rather be self taught. Not that I don't know how to play guitar already, I was just asking how HE learned. I feel being self taught is a lot better than taking classes. I feel this way because when you take a class, you're only learning what the teacher is teaching you, not what you WANT to learn. I learn a lot of riffs off of tabs from songs at home and I branch out to different genres of Rock & Roll. You take what you learn, mix it around, add a bit of your own, and you have a song.
Being self thaught is better. I started playing guitar because of my interest for Metallica. I think I was about ten years old, when I looked up tabs on the internet for different Metallica songs. I learned easy metallica riffs like Battery intro, Seek and Destroy etc, and that really helped me. I've been playing guitar since then, now I'm 16, and I can manage to play almost every Metallica solos. And nobody teached me how to play, I just looked up random riffs from Metal bans, learned them, and played them, all the time. Thats a good way to start, honestly. Start with easy riffs, and after you can manage to play them well, move on. You'll automaticly get better at guitar. If you decide to really put some work into guitar, practice 3-4 times a week, I'm sure you'll get to play this solo just as good as him, in less than 2 years. And not only that solo, every other solo that is as difficult as this one.

I am Korean and I am also the one who plays guitar. When I first start to play guitar, I wanted to play some fast solos like Metallica. I had lesson for like 1 and a half years, but the teacher doesn't teach anything I want. they are teaching like chords and scales, not like palm muting, hammer on, pull off, tapping or harmonic picking and such. I am not saying chords and scales are not important, but I wanted to learn some techniques. After 1 and a half years, I started to learn myself. I felt that self taught is way better than having lesson. I think I might wasted time and money in lessons. Yes, I prefer the self taught too. Oh yeah this is one important thing. If somebody wants to play fast solos like me, play slowly first so make sure you are playing right notes. It's not about playing fast,it's about playing right notes.
being self taught isn't always BETTER. My teacher taught me the fundamentals of guitar, how the guitar works, scales, etc. not just what song I wanted to learn that day. Self teaching is MUCH harder, which doesn't mean its better.
Acoustic is much harder to learn. Neck is thicker (usually). For beginners, I'd say get an electric. I know a lot of people that played for a little bit but quit because it was just to hard and took too much determination.
With an electric I feel you'll gain skill fast enough, depending on how much you play, to not want to put it down and to keep playing. if that makes any sense.
