Lars speaks a language only James can understand. That duo is just really good at trusting and understanding each other in the creative process. It seems so easy but it is very difficult for someone to just keep throwing riffs and breaks and bridges while trusting that the drummer is starting to piece it together in his mind.

Love how Lars just conducts things - sitting on the sofa organising and composing so much. I think that’s his other real value he can contribute so much even if his drumming isn’t what it was
You nailed it. There's a reason him and Hetfield write the majority of the music, Hetfield is a goddamn wizard with riffs and Lars knows how to arrange songs to be their most effective. Definitely a great song writing duo.
He is a mastermind of maneging the band as a company as well, marketing ideas, design ideas, strategies for tours, recordings, music videos, since the beginning of the band he is the brain that put Metallica on top of the world.

I love when Lars is trying to pump the wah for Kirk and he finds how delicate that action is to do in tempo, and that's not even while you are actually playing! Kirk just moves closer to him as if to say "see? it IS hard what I do for you guys!!" :)

This album really feels fresh - a mashup of everything they've been and done yet the end result is unique. Jaymz sounds great.

I love this type of videos, they show a more intimate side of how things works for Metallica in studio and how we end up with an amazing piece of music!
Death Magnetic was a step in the right direction. Hardwired is amazing with the mixture of the albums they had. It felt Black,Justice,Kill, Load in many songs and I loved it. I still don't like the clean tone, I wish they went back to justice tone or something similar. I hope their next album is in the next 3 years not another 8

Why am I not surprised this is how they put a song together. It's more than likely how they've always done it but instead of a garage, they're in their own studio. They may be older and not thrash anymore but damn if they still can't put out some really good stuff. Say what you want about Lars but dude has just got a talent for arranging different pieces into into a finished product. They were my band at 14 years old and they still are at 50. People told me I'd outgrow this but they got me this far, might as well ride this out till the end.
Metallica is really "UNSTOPPABLE" ... gaining weight, always stepping into a higher level... keep on rocking guys

Say what you will about Lrs, but he's danish and i love him! I might be biased since i'm also from Denmark, but whatever. He's also the driving force behind this band. He is doing almost all the arrangements and he has a clear vision for the songs.. I'm not saying the rest of the bunch are'nt talented, because they most certainly are! But Metallica would be nothing without him.
How the hell could Lars not know that stepping hard at the end of a wah pedal turns it on and off? I'm a drummer and have never been a guitarist. Jammed to Metallica since I was a kid and have known how a wah pedal works since then. Lars has been in the industry much longer than me, lived his whole career with the greatest guitarists of all time and didn't know that??

According to what I've seen so far from the "Making videos of Hardwired", it was old Metallica working, that means James and Lars doing almost everything with the producer, Rob taking Kirk's position and Kirk taking Jason's postion.
