Making: Knife Handle from Stabilized Wood and Resin

- In this video I make a #knife handle. I got the blade as a gift, it required only minor beauty treatments. I made a new satin because I did not like the machine finish of the blade and I lined up a few places.
The handle was made of apple #wood, which I dyed and stabilized in #resin. As a vacuum chamber for stabilization I used a 5L jar and an old compressor from the fridge as a vacuum pump. While shaping the handle, I saw a fairly large hole in the wood. I filled the hole and cracks with polyester resin dyed with unwanted eye shadow of my wife. It came out quite well, the color perfectly matches to the spacer made of denim under the #brass guard.

Będę na pewno, tylko czasu mam w deficycie. Jednak nie może to trwać w nieskończoność, bo kilka projektów, które chcę nagrać jest do domu i żona niebawem się wścieknie :D nie pozwalam jej kupić np. stołu, bo przecież sam zrobię, no i bym zrobił, ale chcę to nagrać, a jak nagrywam to wszystko schodzi dwa-trzy razy dłużej, więc nie robię, bo nie mam czasu... no i tak to mniej więcej się kręci teraz ;)

Montaż tego typu faktycznie pożera czas, do tego doszła mi praca w nowym programie do obróbki wideo, poprzedni był sporo prostszy w obsłudze ale kłócił się z plikami z mojego aparatu i miałem przez to ciągłe resety, wyrobił mi się przez to nawyk zapisywania co chwilę ;) Teraz praca trwała dłużej ale bez zbędnego stresu.

The knife looks good but its a matter of time before you are missing fingers because of the way you use the table saw...use a push stick...
I was going to say the same thing. One little snatch and knife making is going to become a lot harder.

Używasz ciśnienia czy podciśnienia?
Do tej żywicy potrzebne jest podciśnienie. Pewnie wysokie ciśnienie też by nie zaszkodziło, ale technicznie byłoby to trudne, bo komora ciśnieniowa musiałaby być jednocześnie podgrzewaczem, żeby utwardzić żywice w wysokim ciśnieniu.

@@cykfuch2659 kompresora z lodówki używałem, nie działało to idealnie, ale kompresor i tak mi leżał, więc cena mi odpowiadała ;)

What did you finish the handle with? Polyurethane?
It was a mixture of cooked linseed oil, polyurethane and thinner, in a ratio of 1-1-2.

I got the blade as a gift, so the knife is for me. Anyway, I did it for the first time, so I didn't avoid mistakes, there are too many to give / sell it to someone. But the lessons will be for the past. Cheers!

After sanding to high gradation, I applied boiled linseed oil.

@@ponuryzniwiarz1564 no nie próbowałem zdobyć kaktusa, komplikacje i cena zniechęciły mnie. Co do kolorów, to była moja pierwsza stabilizacja, dwie jeszcze zrobiłem bezbarwienie i na razie tyle, za dużo zajęć mam i lenia do tego ;)

Buddy you're gonna lose a finger or hand if you keep running small pieces through on the table saw without a push-stick. Really made me cringe right away, I work in construction and all the guys missing parts of their hand did it on the table saw just like this. Matter of time I swear.
Did you mean to not have hammer marks on the entire brass guard? A large are is untouched near the end.. that music is annoying

I stabilized the wood, and then made a handle from it, in which I filled the hole with resin. So yes, the handle is made from stabilized wood and resin :) What is unclear here, dude?
