Living in Australia for 53 years being born in Madeira my mum would put a diced tomato into the boiling section of the rice which I’m sure is the traditional way but I’m sure anything to put in would make it very nice , rip mum.

My mom adds one to two minced garlic cloves as well. It elevates the rice! She from Aveiro Portugal

Love it, thanks for that instruction. Our next door neighbour is Portuguese and makes this without the onions and peas. Just adds a bit of grated carrots to finish it off. World's best rice ever!

I am going to try this today! I am not Portuguese but grew up going to Portuguese restaurants in my town and fell in love with pretty much all the varieties that Portuguese restaurants have in their menus- specially the Cod dishes, rice, and the thin potatoes! I always wonder how their rice was cooked, not sticky and yet fully cooked! I just came across your channel and subscribed to it. Thank you for this video!

This is almost like our indian veg biriyani.. There are lot of indo Portuguese fution dishes like fish molly here in India especially kerala.. ( because of trade link and rule of Portugal )

Did you just say Kerela? You do realise it is Goa the Portuguese colonised right? Pls don’t insult Goans and Portuguese by bringing your malbari roots into the picture which has nothing to do with it what so ever. Maybe French , pondichery but you malus have nothing in common with the Portuguese or Goan . Go and celebrate Onam and eat idli sambar.

@@Anton661 you are totally wrong. Im sure you are a Goan.
Get some high school education before making any comments.
Goans can only drink. Nothing else

@@eltonpereira875 it will kill you to know that I’m a scientist and don’t drink just because I’m Goan. Hindus drink more than goans and so do Punjabi’s. What’s that got to do with what I said . Looks like you need some high school education

I made to your specs. It was good but too salty. A lot of salt already in the chicken cube, so i adjusted for it on the next go and was perfect. But to be fair, everyone has there own desired salt taste. I suggest tasting and adding as you cook.

Like 50. I would love to see a Portuguese Ostrich rice and Galic and lime Navy Beans Meal. But I think I'm asking too much of you.

So ... I've been cooking rice this way my entire life, (occasionally changing peas for chayote squash, carrots or zucchini), and I didn't know it was Portuguese rice....😂.

Why do portuguese resteraunts have like an olive taste and some other taste I can't pinpoint? I don't see onions or garlic at Caravelas or other resteraunts. I made this and it was delicious but didn't taste like the resteraunts. The resteraunt taste is driving me nuts to duplicate. If anyone knows please let me know. Thanks. Keep up the great work Tia
