A rare find. I owned one in the mid 80s. Red with Cosmic alloys. A beautiful car - more so without the "tow bar" boot lid.

I remember these as a lad in late 70s some in scrapers due to rust as most of that era but they were a classy car.

Wow, it's a clone of the one I bought in the early 80's for £200, complete with go-fast stripe which must have been a factory option. The pillarless design was fantastic, especially in the Summer. I had the H120 engine with overdrive on 3rd and 4th making it A 7-speed box !! This was a fast car back in the day. Beautiful styling. Sold it and bought a mini. Both cars which I love.

Mate of mine had one back in the day exactly that colour except for the dished rear panel of the boot lid which was painted matt black, it looked superb

The hunter range was trialed with an Austin maxi 1750 engine , which I had a ride in , but nothing came of it .

Rare car now, I had a Hunter GLS with the same Holbay motor years ago, swapped it for a Mk1 Escort!! 🤔😕

    • @mikemartin2957

@@andyb8501 these Rapiers & the rest of the Hunter are far more superior than a MK1 Escort, especially inner wings, bulk head areas, if Ford had made the Escort & Cortinas a lot stronger there like Hunter ,then yes they'd have a better chance of survival. Lack of investment at Halewood ensured that Escorts needed the welder soon.

Rare car - the H120 wing badges look too low - should be just below the side stipes.

Very disappointed with mine. A 1971 K reg in Alpine Green (metallic) with white stripes. Bought new from Woodheads in Blackpool. Lots of teething issues and poor build quality compared to earlier Rootes cars. Went well when on song.

The Rootes Group got shafted by both the government (over Linwood) and by Chrysler for not knowing how the UK car market behaved! They refused to allow the company to improve the handling of all the models to bring them up to the level of the competition (Ford). They also dropped a number of changes to models that would have given them an increased share of the market! They could not wait to off load the company which saw the total demise of the Rootes Models being replaced by the terrible Talbot range!

Possibly unfairly shadow banned for an opinion you expressed elsewhere? It is subtle. Most of my comments disappear if I sign out and check, no votes for months while those around mine get hundreds. Comment replies get through but not comments.

Far better rust resistant than a MK1 Escort or Cortina, especially the strut top mount area, & way better than a Firenza . Probably . Rapier & the early Celica are the nicer & more stylish coupé of the 70s,with the Datsun Bluebird SSS !
