An excellent tip at 2:33. Know which relay is which. They're all identical, so for troubleshooting, the bike will run without the lights or the fan when you swap 'em around. Also, I'm a big fan of EasyID fuses. They light up when they pop. Cost a little more, but they sure as heck save time when doing your diag...especially because it usually happens in the dark when you're desperate to get back to the truck. :D
So there are usually 2 cables running from the positive terminal. One goes to the starter relay and there might also be a fuse block that the other cable goes to before going to the fuse panel.. This happened to me. I've been working with bikes for 20 years. I know how to hook up a battery. But I got it wrong on a poorly labeled replacement battery. Oh did I feel stupid. For me, the fuse on the starter relay is good, but the 65A fuse block that sits next to the main fuse panel popped. Its covered by a brown plastic cover. The bike is a 2014 Honda CTX1300 deluxe. I got a new fuse block and its back to normal. Hope this helps someone out.
SO if this happens, wont it fry your ECU? considering the battery wiring on these goes from the starter switch to the fuse, then back to the ECU which then goes to your fuel pump. It also goes to the regulator, but the regulator would not prevent starting or the fuel pump turning on?
Made this bone head error yesterday! Main fuse fried as you suggested but voltage regulator also caught on fire. Am I safe to just replace the regulator and ride on?
I installed the battery on recerse as well and road the bike for about 25 km, it really got hot, I changed the fuse already but it seems sonething else hot fried that I can't locate, the battery is still good, there's electric on everything but doesn't reach the starter, any idea what got fried? And if it will be expensive to fix?
I installed it backwards as well but i heard some noise, but i checked the fusses and they are good, what else could be ? Btw y did not even put the key to start it , so after a heard that sound , y removed it but it was a little smoke but i could not identify the cable where it came from.
I agree with Mike. I got in a hurry and did this, even though I knew better. Gave me the great opportunity to learn more about my 'Monster' and how/where to fix it. Thx for helping somebody else out Mike. Great knowledge.

What happened with this? I didn't see a response. Did you get running again. Have the same issue .
@@johficurillispectrumnews13 Yes, I just replaced the voltage regulator myself and it was good as new.

Good job Mike, can you do a comparison of the ktm500 against the beta 500..I think that would be interesting.. thanks for the videos
2nd!
Who does that? But good to know there is a way out.
Riders, mechanics, anyone does this. I’ve done this. If life offers a chance to mess a thing up then it will be done

Jumped my battery backwards in a rush once and the result is the same. Easy to fuck up if youre battery has low profile markings and youre in a hurry
