    This match was really:
    1. Match of the century for India.
    2. Beginning of "Dadagiri".
    3. Pride has a fall for the mighty Aussies.

    This test match holds a special place in my life. We didn't have cable at that time in my home. Me and my grandpa would watch the first hour on DD and then switch to All India Radio for commentary, before catching the last hour on DD again. I remember the lows, but boy, do I remember the highs. When, after the first 10 overs on Day-4, VVS and Dravid began to turn it on. Boundaries came thick and fast, and they just wouldn't get out. BSNL chowka - connecting India! Me and my grandpa, so excited. Remember each and every over. This is not just a test match - its one of the few events which instilled a belief in our abilities as Indians. It's an emotion. Thanks for uploading.

    Backing VVS has to be one of the best decisions ever taken by the Indian selectors. He was averaging just 28 here....and only 23 before that century at Sydney. Still they saw something in him that few others did. Kudos to them👌👌

    • @VikasComedian007
      @VikasComedian007 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      He was treated most badly almost 4 years chosen and discarded as sacrifical opener. Thats why he had a bad average not getting a settled batting position always thrown in pressure to open with different partners. In fact after Aus tour where he got his first 100 at Sydney, he finally showed spine and made it clear he should be chosen only for middle order not as an opener.

    The fact that a bowler concedes less than 200 runs by taking 13 wickets in the game and yet doesn't win the man of the match award shows how good the team's performance was.

    The greatest test match of all time. An absolute masterclass from VVS Laxman, a resilient topclass innings from Dravid, the first test match hattrick by an Indian from Harbhajan, a gritty century from Steve Waugh, a remarkable fightback after being enforced to follow on, really an unforgettable match. Last but not the least commentary of legendary commentator Tony Greig is like cherry on the cake.

      Prior to this test, if a team could enforce follow-On then maximum times it used to enforce it, without much thought.
      But after this match people realised the 2 major negatives
      1- bowlers having to bowl continuously for 2 inings is tiresome
      2- They would be batting in 4th innings when pitch would be mostv deteriorated.
      Hence now the teams think a lot whether to enforce follow on or not

My school was at Park Street and I went to the stadium alone by public bus (my first time). I was 12 then...by the time the word got around on 4th day of a India fight back people started pouring in. But it was after tea that the Eden pitch played tricks. H.Singh and Sachin got almost 8 in total. Bansal was raising his finger on almost every lbw appeal while the English umpire turned down everything. Dada made bhajji change ends to get him.bowl from the end Bansal was standing. It was 110,000 people in the stadium..the match ended at 3.30-4pm. people had 🔥 torches in their hands. A random guy next to me ( he must have been in his 40s) said " you will never forget this day"

    Proud to be one of those who watched this match live, for two days it was at times a very frustrating test match especially Steve Waughs partnership with Gillespie and then the follow on but when VVS was promoted up the order things began to change and then rest is history, it was and always will be one of the greatest Australian teams to play and to have won against them was nothing short of magic, its been quite a journey ever since then to now winning against Australia in Australia, for all the people who say Test match should be 4 days, please just let some things stay the way they are and anyone who has doubts watch this Test match, it will surely change your mind.

    This is the greatest ever test match for India, that influenced the confidence of a generation and will surely will influence the cricketing confidence of all the next generations to come !! when on 3rd day evening, during interview Laxman said that they plan to have 250 run lead over Aussies ( India was trailing by 20 then ), commentator smiled and said first India has to cover the deficit of 20.. but how would he know how true and confident was Laxman when he said that comment and what he and Rahul are going to do on 4th day... what a partnership !! that was like an epic.. i am fortunate to see that match live on TV...never saw such a partnership and a test match !! The match that changed Indian cricket forever. Aussies were aggressive but Gilly and Warne are two good blokes. They sledged the indian batsmen but had genuine appreciation when the Laxman and Dravid got the better of them. Still remember getting annoyed when India were asked to follow on. But Laxman and Dravid played like champions. Laxman said, without Dravid I would not have been able to play (he had a spine issue coming into the match).

      Most of the people actually fail to realize that the turnaround started first with the 117 run partnership between Laxman and Ganguly...When Tendulkar got out, India still 160 behind and Steve Waugh looking to wrap up the series, sets a 8 men field on the offside for Ganguly who was not in form, reportedly told the Indian skipper -"Enjoy the last test innings of your life"...the fact the Ganguly survived that session of fierce fast bowling from McGrath, Gillespie and Kasprowicz hardly gets a mention...but the fightback started from there itself
