My two favourite teams - India and Australia. Glad to see them fight in such a tense match; Australia were the world champions for a long time but 1998-2001 was the turning point and ever since, India has been ranked Number 1 in ICC/MCC/Global Cricket. India are just so consistent, much like Aus but now the Aus team are weak - well done India!!!! Love, from Germany.
@@shivchakraborty5902 Ya that's why it's a team where individual performance will rarely win you matches . He was the captain in 2003 world cup final too but not that he made wrong choice just that individuals could perform on that day who were performing before that match .
This Captain, this team, they started it all. Yup you're right. Saurav made Steve Waugh wait for 8 minutes in the hot and humid field waiting for the toss where no other captain in the world dared to do it especially against Steve Waugh who had captained Aus to a world record 16 consecutive Test wins.
How many series wins in aus, eng, sa, nz? I don't think he was the reason. India always been cricket loving country for decades which had to transform into us being great. @@prafful_sahu In those days India was a poor team overseas and even used to lose at home sometimes. Even avoiding innings defeat overseas was a big thing in 1990s. Saurav won matches in Aus, Eng, WI and Pak. He drew series in Eng and Aus. In those days, strength of Aussie team was out of the world. Every person in that Aussie team was a matchwinner. Even drawing against them was big. Today's Aus team would have lost by an innings if they played against the 2000-2005 Aus team. Saurav encouraged the first crop of Indian quicks including Zaheer, Nehra, Agarkar etc. Before Saurav era, fast bowling was discouraged in India. Nowadays there is MRF foundation, special training for fast bowlers etc. Kohli deserves credit for reversing the trend under Dhoni. Dhoni almost reversed the good work done by Ganguly to develop fast bowling culture in India. Virat revived it.
Saurav as batsman was erratic. He would come really good on a tough wicket and then make a string of low to middling scores following that. India always had brilliant spin attack, the weak link was the pace bowling...... Otherwise the results in many matches played in SENA countries would have been different.

In this series 3 cricketers who were average performers turned into great players .All of them started in 90s but had pretty ordinary careers until this series. They all had superb performances throughout this series and had brilliant careers afterwards. They were mathew hayden , vvs laxman and harbhajan singh .
Having watched this match plenty of times over the years, still, for the first time as I looked at India's line up, it gave me butterflies in the stomach. It's crazy that we won.
Yes sir! My favourite commentators are always either AUS/RSA (south africa), their accent is just right and their passions is clear. Australians have so much respect for good players no matter from what country; also, i love the Ravi Shankar cover on this video, Sitar is the most beautiful stringed instrument.
RIP Tony Greig! Historical series win for India against the mighty Australians. Also this series win brought to an end 16 match winning streak of Australia.

Not walking away is another thing... But after given out, when u re fairly out, giving such expressions and reactions is insane.....
That series win was priceless & can only be compared with only world cup title wins of INDIA in 1983 & 2011. Because before this series AUSTRALIA won 16 tests in a row (not even a single draw match during these ) . All teams started to believe that no team can even imagine to beat these mighty Aussies team😢. But Dada's(saurav) unique leadership and very very skillfull legends like VVS,DRAVID,SACHIN and more importantly totally mesterious masterpiece offspin attack by Bhajji turned in to stop mighty winning run of AUSSIES. This series victory started to change defensive mindset of INDIAN cricketers in all forms of cricket. Today s(2019) mighty attacking mindset of all indian cricketers is no doubt the result of spectacular leadership given by saurav ganguly (dada) to indian cricket👌💐 DHONI was the next supreme updated version of SAURAV Dada's leadership😊😊😊😊👌💐
Their never give up attitude took India to 155-8, other teams would have given up after so many days of hard fought cricket. Was a real fan of their commitment towards cricket, whatever their on field behavior...
I think, after that dismissal of Laxman against Collins, Steve Waugh missed the trick. Instead of continuing with Collins, he should have operated with McGrath and Gillespie at both ends. If Steve Waugh would have done that, then it's too difficult for India to won from that position. Due to God's grace, that didn't happen. We won the series
This series changed the indian cricket Laxman, and harbhajan were heroes of the series and vital contribution from dravid and sachin But at the last but not the least the captaincy of dada
Yes people forget about 6 months before this series the match fixing scandal happened that nearly killed Indian cricket. This series changed Indian cricket forever.
this Aussie batting line struggles like baby and got decimated destroyed shattered into pieces by Bhajji. That was dream Indian cricket line up. And now you see how easily Indian team has lost to back to back WTC to a much weaker NZ and AUS side. What a team that was!!. Legends of legendary hall of fame.

Brings tears to the eyes even now after two decades. This victory was a turning point in India’s development as a team. Luckily it coincided with the time BCCI started bringing in professional structures to groom young talent, ensuring that the gains from this win were built on. The result is there for all to see
those days even a test series promoted like world cup... signboards on road, scheduled card distributed on shops, posters were selling of the playing teams... that was a craze at that time
Yes the craze of test matches could be felt. The billboards, queues for tickets, the articles in newspaper, the crowd and of course the cricket itself. Really used feel wonderful whether at The Eden Gardens or the Wankhade.
Add Sehwag to the list and the next 10 years Indian batting ruled the world. We won matches in Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, series in Pakistan, England, NZ, BD... they were the architects of the current Indian team. They set the benchmark...
This matched also emphasized why australia were the best side in the world for the preceding half decade and upcoming half decade. No match is lost or won till the last run is scored or the last wicket has fallen
If any Dhoni fans believing Dhoni played better captaincy by most victories, jus go through this Australian line up and watch how their winning streak ended by Dada and co
Sachin vs McGrath hand down is the best rivalry in the last 25 years. Mark Waugh is easily the greatest slip fielder ever. I am sure his catch to dismiss Laxman would have given heart attacks to fans back then. I was only 5 and half years old that time. Dighe can proudly tell the story to his grandsons about his 3 fours.
Best slip fielder is Rahul Dravid. Balls in Australia come at pace and catchable height, while in subcontinents both the frequency and height at which they come is low. Plus the stats easily prove who is the best.
Actually it was power of Australia during 99-07. They lost only 2 series one each in India and England and both those series became historic for both of these countries.

India always had brilliant spin attack, the weak link was the pace bowling...... Otherwise the results in many matches played in SENA countries would have been different.
Kohli is the greatest Indian test captain. Before him we used to depend on spinners. Kohli bring the fast bowling culture in India. Results are there to be seen, 2 series wins down under and also never lost a test series in India.
@@prafful_sahu not 2 series only 1 series

In this series 3 cricketers who were average performers turned into great players .All of them started in 90s but had pretty ordinary careers until this series. They all had superb performances throughout this series and had brilliant careers afterwards. They were mathew hayden , vvs laxman and harbhajan singh .
Except for the fact that hayden became one of the greatest ever after that
Still it use to give goosebumps....no matter how many time you watch this.....those days of cricket....our childhood was soo simple yet sooo beautiful
Having watched this match plenty of times over the years, still, for the first time as I looked at India's line up, it gave me butterflies in the stomach. It's crazy that we won.
Shiv sundar das was also a classic batsman sweeping shane warne for fours & sixes.
Left of the teams scared Shane warne but against India Shane Warne gets hit by 4s
Absolutely Correct
@@akshaysuresh8948 Yes even though indian pitches are conductive for spinners
RIP Tony Greig. Miss his commentary so much.
Yes sir! My favourite commentators are always either AUS/RSA (south africa), their accent is just right and their passions is clear.
Believe me that was Australia...Steve Waugh's Australia
Their never give up attitude took India to 155-8, other teams would have given up after so many days of hard fought cricket. Was a real fan of their commitment towards cricket, whatever their on field behavior...
Yes World cricket domination team's captain...
One of the best Australians team in history of the game
Yes McGrath and Gillespie breathing fire on a dusty fifth day Indian pitch
I think, after that dismissal of Laxman against Collins, Steve Waugh missed the trick. Instead of continuing with Collins, he should have operated with McGrath and Gillespie at both ends. If Steve Waugh would have done that, then it's too difficult for India to won from that position. Due to God's grace, that didn't happen. We won the series
This series changed the indian cricket
Laxman, and harbhajan were heroes of the series and vital contribution from dravid and sachin
But at the last but not the least the captaincy of dada

Sachin vs McGrath hand down is the best rivalry in the last 25 years. Mark Waugh is easily the greatest slip fielder ever. Aman yeh bro many told Sachin selfish he plays slow when he reaches 90+ here he scored 100 with a six , and grt game by many !!!
Best slip fielder is Rahul Dravid. Balls in Australia come at pace and catchable height, while in subcontinents both the frequency and height at which they come is low. Plus the stats easily prove who is the best.
