"The Japanese take on the strongest archers alive" => japan loses
"Rest in peace Byzantines" => byzantines win and it isn't particularly close
"New byzantine strategy" => byzantines lose
"marinelord walks into a byzantine trap" => marinelord wins, the 'trap' only kills like 3 units
"mounted samurai raids are INSANE" => japan loses
"oh you're imperial? Japan don't care" => japan loses
"consider the byzantines solved" => byzantines lose

@@AussieDrongo Naming IS hard, no denying. But *statements* in the title make it hard not to either spoil or mislead. possible alternatives: "can they survive with the nerfed byzantines?" "unconventional Japanese landmark" "mass samurai vs horseman raids" etc... Though I suppose sensational headlines probably get more clicks, so meh.
I tried making the equality monks against OoTD once, but as is demonstrated in this match, the monks just spend their time healing instead of meaningfully debuffing the enemy. Even if they change/nerf the floating gate again, I'd still pick it over this absolutely useless landmark imho.
You can turn off autoheal, and they will autocast the damage reduction instead.
@@Matt-ln7lb Yes, but they are very CLEVER to spend all the damage reduction on 1 or 2 nearest unit.
those Japanese 50% damage reducing priests did sweet jack all in that first big fight. I still haven't given up hope for a decent use case for them but this display wasn't pretty.

I really don't understand why did they nerf the Japanese. In every castered game I always see the Japanese lose, I am at the point that I'm clicking every japanese civ games and will root for them and just ended up them losing it lol
That was a really bad idea to use the monks because they spent the entire fight healing the japanese instead of debuffing the enemy. Perhaps they need to make the curse an autocast or re-work the AI for japan's monks but until they do I really cannot see a use for them outside of comp stomps. I suppose it might work on siege units? Mangos or great bombards doing half damage would be funny yet even in those cases i wonder if it would really change the outcome of a fight. Even then a player would have to manually click each priest, click the ability, click a target. Only 3 clicks and something that a pro player might be able to several times in less than a second if they could use all hotkeys, but for any less skilled player that sounds like a demand their micro cant match.

For a game that eliminated a bunch of frankly boring micro (reseeding farms < infinite farms) I'm surprised the monk healing mechanic hasn't been turned into an aoe with slightly higher range. Like what if monks healed everything with a certain range and certain monks could also apply debuffs/buffs at the same time in the same radius?

Awesome to see OotD getting played well here, especially with all the prelate support. That Japanese infantry comp has looked unstoppable in a lot of other casts lately and it just got obliterated.

I don't think it's just the map's fault, without something like catapult or onager chopping, treelines as a map feature in AOE4 aren't very interesting tactically.
Wood is really strong defensively, so the only forests that are allowed small, scattered circles or giant blocks nowhere important. Anything else is unbalanced or unfun to deal with.
I mean there's stealth forests but you should know what I'm getting at looking at aoe1 and 2 map design.
Speaking of the colour choices Farm Man Official is now using a standard red/blue colour scheme. I've never noticed the health bars but the blue/purple/teal is pretty much impossible to tell apart for us colour blind guys.
Drongo mate. Defection apparently doesn't work for siege attack, ozutsu attack on seige weapons don't work...japanese could've been fixed more before they nerfed orishiro....

buddist monk is mathematically cool vs Ootd
lowering damage by percentage is more effective more damage enemy has.
12 -33% = 8 (4 damage less)
45 -33% = 30 (15 damage less!)
and on top of that deflective armor

Ok but your not considering armor. If the against high armor....for arguments sake say 5 armor.
12 damage drops to 8 deals 3 instead of 7. thats a drop of 57% damage
45 damage drops to 30 deals 25 instead of 40, thats only a drop of 37.5%
Isn't the damage reduction -50%? so 12 -> 6, then armor reduces it even further (probably to 1 for Samurai). 45 -> 22.5*, then armor. In age 3, a Gilded Landsknecht deals 21 damage (up to 23 with upgrades) -> ~11 damage -> minus 4-6 from Samurai armor would take them down to ~4.5-7.5 damage. They lose between ~65 and ~80% of their damage.

As an HRE into OotD main, i stopped making Aachen. Just recently started playing online and have done fairly well so far. Ive withheld many rushes and early aggro.
I'd love Drongo to cast twi in particular. Hands down the best caster.

@kiro253 not true at all. Our of the several games I've played, some were won in feudal as well. Watching replays, my vill count was lower due to production time.

The Temple of Equality is a good choice in this match up. The relic conversion damage buff stacks with number of relics and has a 18-20 second span...
You need relics for that.

It does and its normal, since its Block for regular farm drop either
So the reason why japan lost was because of macro? Being late to castle and losing all the relics? Probably because he didn't wall in front of the tc in time? I'm a noob so i don't really know.
not a great player here either, but I think it came down to the unit compositions. landsknecht vs infantry
Well if you look closely at the military techs specifically blacksmith techs Starflark was dead late to getting them. Japanese units are high number low health. Them blacksmith upgrades are absolutely vital to winning fights. Especially against OoTD where their units far outscale yours. Also OoTD was already getting imperial upgrades and university tech. The game was lost due to Blacksmith Tech neglect entirely.
Both players went slow builds. That is, there was no early aggression. But the HRE/OOTD fast castle onto fast imp is more greedy than a 2 tc play. But the Japanese player didnt or maybe couldnt punish the fast imp.
you can't be predictable in this game or you'll get eaten by a adaptive player. Japan was being predictable with an infantry comp and ootd simply countered it.

They nerfed the Japanese so much they arent fun to play anymore, they gotta need to buff them again itherwise the are useless

Strongly disagree. I'm low level but I played 4 team games with them today and won each game with the highest score. Japanese are a power house.
