I disagree with everything you said about Dougy P’s sound collage works. He’s making cutups when he does shit like that. It’s a William Borrows technique that all the neo folk n topy related projects heavily utilised. For me it’s the most interesting aspect to all these bands sound.

This and your politics of DI6 video got me to do a deep dive on the band and got hooked right away, and honestly Nada-ized is the only album that I actually disliked because yeah its an atrocious, ill-conceived abomination, I absolutely get your dislike of the Martial Industrial and Noise driven records, but I really liked them, though I have to be in the right mood to listen to those records. Think one of the problems is that the electronic bits tended to overwhelm everything including the vocals. Overall a really good ranking.

All Pigs Must Die is a horrifically angry and ugly album. When Douglas’s label World Serpent Distribution was facing impending bankruptcy, he and a lot of other artists were owed a large sum of unpaid money for their work. While I understand this is a huge financial blow and a horrible inconvenience for everyone involved, to hear Doug belt out these big scary violent songs about his fight with “three little piggies,” i.e. the heads of WSD at the time, it just comes across as so bitter and acrimonious it’s honestly a little embarrassing.
It’s also sad to see how much animosity Douglas was still holding onto towards David Tibet at the time of the album’s release, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he still hates the guy to this very day. The track Flies Have Their House feels like a direct shot at Tibet, mocking his dead father, but I’ve also seen a theory that the toy pig on the front cover, the one whose throat is being cut by Doug, is dressed in a way that resembles the children’s character Noddy, who Tibet was obsessed with and sometimes dressed as around the time the two men were still frequently collaborating together.

      2. Tibet apparently stabbed Douglas in the back somehow, don't know the details but apparently it tied in with WSD. If that's the case I can understand not being very forgiving, why forgive dishonorable behavior?

Nada!, for sure the best, but Tony Wakeford was let go after Burial (until then, he was the second voice, on NADA it was Patrick Leagas). For me The Wörld that Sümmer is stroger than Brown Book, and The Guilty... would be top 5, probably 😎

I chose to listen to this ranking, after watching your video insight into the world of DIJ and finding it rather interesting. However, this is rather a shallow attempt, I'm afraid...

You don't like sound collage or post punk but want to rank DIJ records, um ok

My ranking (of the albums I know well):
      1. Brown Book
      2. The World That Summer
      3. Rose Clouds
      4. Nada
      5. The Guilty Have No Pride
      6. But What Ends...?
      7. The Wall of Sacrifice
      8. Take Care and Control
      9. The Rule of Thirds
      10. Snow Bunker Tapes
I consider Burial to be a compilation, not a proper album, like 93 Dead Sunwheels. Both containing crucial tracks. I would say the first four on this list are absolutely crucial listening. The next four are "deep cuts" for those who want to dig further. The final two are for established fans who have overplayed the primo stuff and need more, even at the risk of diminishing returns. I haven't heard All Pigs but will give it a listen on your recommendation. Always dismissed it as a throw away based on the OTT cover.

I keep getting into trouble with TH-cam over sample usage. Being demonetized is one thing, but they’ve started flat out geo blocking my videos in some countries, so it’s hard to justify using them anymore. You can keep them really really short, but is there even a point when that’s the case?

Is Douglas P. a coward for using incendiary political imagery/racially questionable (at best) messages and refusing to “get involved in politics?” Well yeah of course. But is his music great? Also yes.

I only listened to the first album, I liked the music and the gloomy vibe a lot but the vocals, not so much

Nada is the best one to me. Without synths, drums and samples his songs loses a lot. Definitely I don't like so much his only acoustic songs. Cheers. 👍

I really like the melancholic songs of Douglas P that can be interpreted as the internalized struggle of repressed queerness.

why repressed? he's pretty open about it.
