100 black metal albums that you should check out (according to Lines in Wax)
To make up for a near 6 month drought in videos please accept this 2 hour black metal special. Here are 100 black metal (or related) albums that I think are worth your time. This list is in no particular order.
I plan to do this for both death metal and grindcore too, so buckle up, it's a long 'un!
It should go without saying but this is the internet so let me spell this out so there are no misconceptions: this video does discuss several bands that are on the "naughty list", as it were. I do not personally advocate or stand for any hateful idealogy of any kind. I also believe that pretending that these artists simply do not exist is ridiculous. I hope we can have a sensible discussion about music here.
That being said, I welcome any and all open discourse around the elephant in the room regarding black metal so please feel free to discuss this in the comments but any abusive comments will be deleted.

We Need to Talk About Tony Martin & Black Sabbath
มุมมอง 5117 หลายเดือนก่อน
Over the past few years I've developed quite the appreciation for Tony Martin's time with Black Sabbath. This is a long overdue video to address that, as well as to go through the unboxing of the latest Anno Domini vinyl boxset that compiles a lot of the material from that era of the band.

Darkthrone - "It Beckons Us All" Album Review

Darkthrone recently released their new 2024 album “It Beckons Us All…” and I want to cover it as we’ve discussed Darkthrone on the channel before. Fenriz and Nocturno Culto have been on something of a streak recently, with this recent album feeling like the third in a trilogy of excellent albums, alongside Eternal Hails and Astral Fortress. This video is a companion piece to my fairly recent Da...

Wormrot are a grindcore band from Singapore who have had a super interesting musical trajectory since their inception in 2007. From the rough around the edges underground DIY grind style in which they cut their teeth, to some of the most savage grindcore full length records ever, to transcending the boundaries of the genre and creating their own unique sound - even in the face of adversary such...

Burzum's Varg Vikernes is one of the most controversial figures in the history of metal and rock music, and for good reason. However - I don't want to talk about that. I want to talk about something that is often overlooked in the drama surrounding such a controversial and polarising character: the music. 7: The Origin Of The Feces (Slow, Deep, and Hard with fake and annoying crowd sounds.) 6: Slow, Deep, And Hard (The Origin Of The Feces without the crowd sounds but is still weird, racist, dirty, and distorted.) 5: Bloody Kisses (Biggest hit and other good songs cannot forgive this album, this is the first album of them I got a cd of and I was not expecting disturbing sound effects like Machine Screw or Dark Side Of The Womb, and songs I take great offense to like Christian Woman and Kill All The White People.) 4: World Coming Down (I like the gothic sound in this album, but I have a problem with the track White Slavery and all the depressing themes covered in this album are too much.) 3: Dead Again? (I love the Heavy Doom sound of this album and that is something I would look into, but the song These Three Things could not at all age at a time like this and I wouldn’t reach for anything that talks about anti-abortion, even if he had a reason to do that song.) 2: Life Is Killing Me (Fast pasted songs are always my go to sound, especially with songs like I Don’t Wanna Be Me and the title track, and I enjoy the heavy riffs some songs have to offer, it’s just some of the disgusting lyrics that I would not recommend myself to listen to.) 1: October Rust (This album is flooded with songs that define Goth Metal and most of their greatest hits are present in this record, and unlike other albums by them, I actually like the transitions on this one, and I listen to Love You To Death whenever I get the chance to do so, and songs like My Girlfriends Girlfriend and Wolf Moon make me want to replay this album, and the tones used for the tracks are the most acceptable I have heard from them.)

Is Douglas P. a coward for using incendiary political imagery/racially questionable (at best) messages and refusing to “get involved in politics?” Well yeah of course. But is his music great? Also yes.

  • @baldmitzvah
    @baldmitzvah 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

imo it’s a pretty cowardly move to use so much nazi imagery/lyrics suggesting antisemitic sympathies and then refuse to “get involved in politics” when someone points it out. You can’t just use politically (and racially, etc) incendiary symbols/words and then refuse to acknowledge their political meanings lmao.

  • @baldmitzvah

I think a person/music that requires so much defending/inspection it could be inferred he swings in a direction that skews right to say the least. My opinion on DI6 changes almost every time i revisit it, but I think the use of nazi imagery is distasteful at best, malicious at worst.

You're right. I felt exactly the same when I've heard Burzum NEW. It's so absolutely lame, generic and soulless. I'm really wondering how such a unique and talented artist could turn into THAT. I think he really degraded both as a musician and a person. Twitter really fried his brain + he barely goes out into society and spends all of the time in his small village. And what's up with the "Burzum NEW" title?! It's so tasteless and it cheapens Burzum as a brand. In my opinion, would be really badass if he just bought an acoustic guitar (or other acoustic instruments) and rebranded Burzum into a Neofolk project. That would fit him perfectly, and I'm sure everyone would only welcome it. Unfortunately, Varg is a pale shadow of his former self, thus he unlikely will come up with something like that.

Personally, I have always loved the Load/ReLoad cycle. They are absolutely not the best Metallica albums. ReLoad in particular is obviously the leftovers. But each album has songs I can listen to depending on the mood. I feel like there's three options that would have made it better received. You could combine it all into a three CD super album under a different band name like a side project and call the album Loaded, advertise it as a passion experimental project from the members of Metallica. Trim the fat and just have the best 7 songs in it and call it Unload, and advertise it as the band letting out some of the shit they're dealing with - especially James as he was going through hell at the time. Lastly you pick the 14 best songs and make it a double album and advertise it as a temporary experimental phase.

When considering the most significant historical death that occurred in June, one must evaluate the impact of various figures who passed away during this month. Among these, Alexander the Great, who died on June 11, 323 BC, stands out as one of the most influential figures in history.

I maintain that Douglas is pretty obviously someone who is economically leftist that has at the very least sympathies for nationalism. I would not be shocked if he were something like a Strasserite. I don’t really care, though. I am a Catholic and a rightist and I listen to music made by communists, pagans, etc. I do not know why many leftists seem to either pretend good art is bad because it’s rightist or that obviously rightist art is secretly leftist.

I was on a road trip in Fall of 2018 and stopped in Seattle, went to a little record store tucked away in Pike Place Market and found October Rust on tape. Couldn't have put it better that this album is THEE autumn album. I had always heard tracks from the band but wasn't 100% sold at the time, but I bumped this album front to back probably four or five times on my trip. October Rust is awesome because even though the metal side of things feel buried, the thick and gnarly bass tone and occasional giant sounding guitar tones and overall vibe of the album is so doomy and I love it. Bloody Kisses and October Rust are the only two albums I've heard front to back but I need to give the rest of the discography a proper deep dive.

Why are so many Nazis gay? The question has been asked a million times online. First, most Nazis are obviously not gay. Second, the question presupposes that gay men who express an interest or affinity with Nazi things are, in fact, committed Nazis. Notwithstanding the fact that most aesthetic choices are superficial at most. Nazism is forbidden. So too is being gay. It is not hard to imagine why a gay man might feel attracted or sympathetic to Nazism in a non-ideological and inexplicable way which can only be expressed visually and musically. Nazis, like gay men, have a terrible, dark, and shameful secret. For Douglas, he saw the uniforms and planes and tanks as a boy, and he fell in love. But he wasn’t supposed to. He had to hide it from his father. And, when his father found out, he was furious. Douglas’ experience of being a gay man was probably not too dissimilar. Just as genuine Nazis would not accept Douglas, in spite of his passion, Douglas’ first crush may have been a heterosexual boy who could never love him back. For Douglas, it’s about wanting the forbidden and not being wanted back; it’s about hiding and secrets and forbidden nectar.
