@@therealtwiggyleafI have Lamb at 4th all time finest music in history. Considering all the great music out there, 4th ain't too shabby. Not a fan of Back In NYC or Slippermen. But the rest of Lamb is outstanding. Tales has been my favorite since January 1974 when I only heard the first 3 minutes of it. Had to wait until I got my first job to get the album.

@@TheProgCornerHi Scot, I have Incantations at 8th all music history finest, just under Novella. Lamb at 4th. Nothing comes close to Tales. Of course you know that. And of coarse, Lamb must be way up there in the top 5. Two spots above Magnification.

I liked your pick of Tull's compilation album, Living in the Past. It's an eclectic mix of songs, many of which never found a home on Tull's studio albums. I love the urban folk gems off Side 4. Side 1 had some iconic early Tull as well!! The album needs to get more love!

I wish they would come to Ontario more often but, sadly, after the last cancelled show fiasco due to Covid legislation and some over-zealous border police I am afraid that may not happen for a while…if ever 😢 I am a bit of a Hot Freak….I own every Pollard related full length and most of the eps and singles too. Glad to see the White Album up there. I love everything about that album. If I could only have one album...
I'm not a Soft Machine or a Minuteman fan. So those are the only two I don't have from your list including
honourable mentions. I'm not going to bother wracking my brain to come up with a list of my own. When it
comes to double albums from the "classic" era the pool isn't that large. You pretty well covered it there Scot.
Nowadays practically every prog album released is a double if not triple album. You know what a fan I am of
that.🙄 Thankfully I've noticed a trend to get back to more manageable lengths. Forty minute albums seem to
    be making a comeback.
You put that Tull comp Living in the Past on your list but you forget an important double comp. That album would
be This is the Moody Blues. It was my introduction to the Moodies. It works great too as it was mixed especially
for the comp. The songs segue into each other cohesively. Makes for a great listen.
Good luck with your Strawbs ranking. That should be a good episode. As you know I love Strawbs.

Kudos Scot, for giving major props to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “ JCS. “ I was 10 years old when I first heard that wild, rock opera back in ‘71, and it blew me away instantly. I will gladly hold it responsible for getting me into both rock and classical music at the same time. And I didn’t even know who Ian Gillan was yet 😆. I do get what you're saying about double albums being a lot more common in the vinyl days when anything over about 45-50 minutes had to be one, but when I was trying to think of a list of ten (I ended up at 11 and a bonus) to post here I dug up a lot from more modern eras that are two CDs! My rules here are that it has to be an all studio release, "deluxe editions" only count at my discretion but have to be released alongside the single disc version and include significant original studio material, not just live tracks/covers/alternate takes/etc. No particular order, aside from the last two I'll name.
Coheed and Cambria - The Afterman - I'm saying this one first because it's absolutely a stretch to count it so it's not really in my top ten, but I still want to mention it anyway. This one's more a duology that was later released as a double album, and the two were originally released a year apart. But that said, they work far better as one album than either does standing alone, so it's worth mentioning to me.
ELO - Out of the Blue - You had it as an honorable mention, but man, what a solid album. Especially that side 3 Concerto for a Rainy Day suite, ending on the happiest song ever recorded, Mr. Blue Sky. I can hear the cowbells now.
Judas Priest - Nostradamus - A bit of a weird pick in all fairness, since the album is an absolute black sheep in their catalog and not all that well remembered. But it came out around the time I started high school and I remember listening to it a bunch because my dad liked it. And it's no doubt the proggiest thing they ever did. Is it their best album? Probably not, but for what it's worth I like it quite a bit.
Iron Maiden - The Book of Souls - While on the subject of NWOBHM bands turning proggy in their later years, Iron Maiden really took that ball and ran with it after Priest took their stab at it. And putting out a double album with tracks like The Red and the Black, the title track, and Empire of the Clouds? It's prog, no doubt about it. And it's good prog too!
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti - I have honestly pretty similar thoughts about this one as you did. The first disc is virtually flawless, the second one does lose me a bit at times but it's still got some fantastic tracks on it. Especially In the Light and Night Flight I really do enjoy. Either way it's just behind Houses of the Holy as a favorite Zeppelin album.
Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence - This is a bit of an odd one to me, since I do tend to rate this one lower than most do for DT album lists, but it's hard to deny that it's a fantastic album. I find the lyrics of The Great Debate and some parts of the title suite a little dated, but that's really a minor quibble, even a lower rank among DT albums is a damn high rank in general in my book.
Liquid Tension Experiment - LTE3 - Is it cheating to have this and DT as separate artists? Maybe. Is it cheating to count the bonus disc as part of the album? I'm going to say no, because it's all new material and that's what I got when it came out. Fantastic comeback record, always great to hear more from these guys. And getting their version of Rhapsody in Blue on a studio album finally is a nice touch, especially because their live version is what made me like that piece to begin with.
Symphony X - Iconoclast - This one's also debatable in terms of it counting, but the band's official stance is that the two disc version is their intended release, and the single disc version was insisted on by the label. All that changes is that two songs got shifted tothe second disc and three more tracks were added. The album itself is a bit different from other Symphony X releases, a bit rougher edged and more metal with less symphonic notes, but I still like it a lot for what it is, and the disc 1 closer When All Is Lost is just an incredible piece of music.
IQ - The Road of Bones - I still need to dig more into this band, but this album is what got me hooked on them. It's dark, brooding, dare I say spooky, and has just enough common threads between songs that I'm confident in calling it a concept album, but not sure what the story of it actually is. It's about a vampire, I think, and that's about what I can figure out. But it's amazing either way.
Yes - Tales From Topographic Oceans - What more is there to say about this one? We all know you love it, I really enjoy it, Rick Wakeman might not but he seems like a bit of a perfectionist so I'll take his word with a grain of salt. It's great, we all know that by now.
And now for my top two:
Thank You Scientist - Terraformer - I mentioned this on my list of best album sides for that first run of four songs, but the other three sides are all fantastic too. Thirteen songs of proggy, jazzy goodness, it's one of two double albums to easily make my favorite albums ever. The other?
Ayreon - The Human Equation - If it wasn't for the one album per artist rule I could have had half my list be Ayreon albums. Arjen's such a fantastic composer, and his rock operas are some of the most clearly told I can find, and still manage to make just about every song fantastic on its own. This album is probably my favorite ever made by anyone - the story is (quite literally) an emotional roller coaster, the music is great, what more do I need to say?
Well, there's my list, it's got a few you mentioned but gives some light to a few other things there. And it was only while I was working on it that I consciously realized Rush never had a studio double album... Only live and compilation albums. That just feels factually wrong but it's true. Anyway, great list!

I was only like 11 or 12 years old and I didn't even know what a "Broadway" or "West End" show was. At that time as a kid, it was just an album, but I remember thinking, "Why is this record so different than most records?" I didn't understand it was a soundtrack to a show, I just remember loving it. Since that time I've seen over 100 broadway shows, so it stuck! Chicago II is a great album, sort of proggy how all the songs medley together as suites, so each side was a song, sort of (I was writing this while watching and had to change my comment when you popped it up! Thanks, Kevin. You may be right. I’m a huge fan of The Band and I recall the actual production being done differently, with Levon in particular being upset with what Todd did, so Todd was effectively demoted despite his work, and listed on some pressings as just as the engineer. Regardless, John Simon deserves all the credit and much more than he gets from the brown album through at least Moondog Matinee. He was the glue. Thanks again for your reply. That’s what I love about good TH-cam music channels like this. You learn and get to reply to people without people calling each other names or worse.

Aaron , I am a big Todd fan and Albert Grossman took him under his wing. Todd had done some production prior to Stage Fright . However , he was hired strictly as an engineer on that album . The band members were not in good shape at that time . Coming in to sessions late, not all on the same page .At that time I THINK Todd had produced Fanny and Jesse Winchester . Nice to communicate with someone who appreciates this music ! I’m an old guy of 70 who still listens to music of the 60’s and 70’s .

It is amazing they were able to make such a fine record and, although I seem to be in the minority, I like Cahoots quite a bit too. Into The Electric Castle and some other albums by Ayreon ; Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence by Dream Theater ; She by Caamora ; The Inconsolable Secret by GlassHammer ; Al Bandaluz by Cast ; From Land To Ocean by Galleon and last but not least, Grace for Drowning by Mr Steven Wilson could have found a place there. I guess there are lots of other titles that could have been in this list too. Great job anyway Scot !

Modern Prog took a backseat here. In the CD era almost every album was a “double” album so I focused on the classic era…

Hi Scot!!! You made a great choice on double albums!!! Yes, Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Chicago, Todd Rundgren, The Who, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Elton John, Captain Beefheart, XTC, Focus, Can, Jeff Wayne, Jesus Christ Superstar (Ian Gillan's setlist, not the OST) just awesome!!!!! I don't think "Works" is a very good album although I love ELP's four or five first records!!! I can understand perfectly why you didn't pick "Bob Dylan's "Blonde On Blonde" The Rolling Stones' "Exile On Main St.", Stevie Wonder's "Songs in the Key of Life" or "Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland" because in truth they have nothing of prog-rock they are full of rock and roll, psychedelia, folk, country, soul music, but "London Calling" from Clash has nothing of prog too!! And for me, it's an excellent record but not superior to any of the four you spoke and I mentioned. But it doesn't matter, what matters is that you rocked again this whole video!!!! See you my American friend!!!

Hello! Enjoyed the ranking video - Lots of great choices. YES "Tales" The best 4 sides of an album!! IMO If proggers don't like it - Oh Well!
