Died and went to heaven ... my two favorite golf guys!!! I’m new to golf and learning from the best guys on you tube. Trying to convince my husband to come out and take some classes with you:)))
Practiced the setup in the mirror at home to get a feel. Took it to the range yesterday. Felt weird at first but soon got into the swing and made a big difference.
Probably one of the best videos I have seen. I agree that a good golf swing begins with a good setup. Eric - I liked how you used angles and lines to show a correct address. This is something I can check in my mirror and phone. Chris - I liked how you explained on how to "set up" to the ball. I will definitely use your tips in my setup routine.
I literally commented the other day how Eric and another as being the best two on YT for not just mechanics but how a swing shoud feel at each stage ways to achieve it (didn't feel right mentioning the other YT ch on Eric's) and they've only gone and done somethibg together anyway :-) by far the best two on YT!
More good stuff here Eric and nice to see you linking up with Chris Ryan. I've a question re; ball position. Another great coach Kip Puterbaugh described the two schools of thought as being as I recall, 1. Ball position constant, stance width changes and 2. Stance width more constant, ball position changes. Additionally, coaches like Butch Harmon, Hank Haney, Jack Grout and players like Jack Nicklaus taught one ball position for all normal shots as it simplified things and gave more consistency. Just wondered what your thoughts on this were?
Nailed it again with another great video. Alignment sticks and a mirror make practicing all these down the line things a snap at home when I can't get to the course. Love the last little tip from Chris as well on grip tension. Might be adding that into the preshot routine.
I think Chris is a great teacher and I follow his channel. I did notice a difference in philosophy on foot pressure. I’m pretty sure you advocate 50/50 pressure at setup and Chris favors slightly more pressure in the lead foot. Is this one of those variables that requires individual experimentation? Great video as always.
Set up is vitally important. One missing piece: width of stance. How does it affect the swing? A wide stance feels powerful. However, in my swing a wide stance promotes forearm roll and and open club face.
Hey Ron... Wider feet make you shorter, narrow feet keep you tall. So generally speaking the taller the player the more I may widen stance. Wider stance easier to unweight and shift pressure for speed and power. So feed wider for longer clubs up to driver and more narrow for shorter clubs where power not as necessary. I would say ankles even with or just outside shoulders for stock irons and well wider for driver. Hope that helps!
Great video Eric..lots of positive stuff here .great for set up ..nice to see you using everyone point of veiw..so you can bring the best parts to us..thank you !
Great video guys! Been LOVING Chris’ videos for a while and TH-cam recommended Eric’s channel. Subbed! One though though, the cutaways or Erics videos weren’t needed IMO, it was enough just to have him on the range. Great video.
I like the hands inside left thigh from face on....talked more on this here you might like Face on part in second half th-cam.com/video/8TjvCHCAQ0c/w-d-xo.html
This is the most important part of any golf swing. If you don't get it right your gonna make compensations. I seen people who finally get it right say "It doesn't feel right". That's because they've been doing it wrong for so long. 🤔
I’m a “butt line too far back “ guy. If you straighten your legs you will have to have more forward bend? If the butt line is to far back are you most likely standing too far away from ball?
If you straighten your legs, more forward/side bend....yes. As to why butt line would be more back....could be several thing, would have to see your swing to say for sure
Great video guys, watched a lot of Chris as I'm in the UK and recently found Eric. I've just tried this set up in the mirror regards arm hang and lining the back of the arm pit to knees/ball of feet. It feels like my arms are too close to my body almost resting on the sides of my chest/stomach. Is this right as it feels restricted? Thanks
Hey Glen! Always use the checkpoints. What you need to FEEL isn't correct nor incorrect. If you hit the checkpoint what that feel then that is correct for you RIGHT NOW....based on WHERE YOU'RE COMING FROM. If you were farther away before then yes you would need to feel closer to get to neutral
On ball position relative to the lead foot: I thought that distance remained constant, and it was the backfoot that goes farther or nearer to the ball depending upon the club...
I am a little confused. If at set up with the lead hip/pelvis slightly forward, there is more weight on the lead foot. This in turn means the lead hip/pelvis is higher than the trail pelvis/hip at set up.. In my experience it is very very difficult to hit down (ball turf/contact) to compress the golf ball from such a set up let alone to get the divot in from of the ball for iron shots. If anything, on the backswing from such a position, this will encourage a sway to the trail side as it is lower than the lead side unless one pivots on the lead foot where the weight is. This set up discourages making a centered turn back. All instruction I halve been reading so far suggests you need to get the weight pressure on the trail side at the top so you can make the transition from there. WITH THE LEAD HIP HIGHER as suggested at set up, THIS IS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBE. BETTER THAT THE TRAIL HIP BE HIGHER AT SET UP TO MAKE A DOWNWARD STRIKE.
Well I appreciate you breaking down certain parts of the swing other channels just do a vague over view of it.. I like how you do you're videos for instance the take away ..the top of the swing... the bottom of the swing and so on
Isn't it a lot harder to hit down on the ball (ball turf) if you set up with the body tilt you suggest at set up (with lead hip higher than trail hip?) Seems to me the opposite is true.
Do you guys have a video on proper head tilt at address i believe my head is titled towards the target at address my chin turned away from the target like Jack iam playing horrible iam guessing it could be my head tilt is the problem my shoulder turn stops at 45 degrees and my left arm bends and a hugh outside in swing is my standard swing really struggling tks

Thanks! I would say one ball position and changing feed width is more common....but Ive seen really good players do it both ways successfully!

Hey Dave! I think personal preference I would say good players are 60/40 to 50/50 on average! See what works best!
Set up is vitally important. One missing piece: width of stance. How does it affect the swing? A wide stance feels powerful. However, in my swing a wide stance promotes forearm roll and and open club face.

Another great video Eric and Chris Thanks to both of you.
Thanks, Dennis! Our pleasure!
Superb, simple video reminder of the basics! Excellent
Thanks!
how cool to do this with chris. i've watched him longer than you...ooops! lols. and i think this subject matter is so critical
Haha all good man!
Two of my favourite guys to laurn from in one video, can we do some more together please please please.
Thanks, Terry! Would love to do more moving forward, Im sure we can figure something out!
Excellent. Short and to the point!
:) Thanks!
Maybe you could mention where the hands should be..ie. under your chin, inside left thigh, under the logo of your shirt? Thanks.

Agreed---huge part
Great discussion on the cause and compensating effect/reaction.
Thanks!
Have been a CR fan a long time now. Great stuff! Was surprised to see him here.
He's a cool dude!
Great collaboration Chris is really good also another on that side of the pond is Danny Maude. You 3 are the best in my opinion
@Coolhand850 keep an eye on this one.
Absolutely! Danny Maude proves the images and drills that help to put the theory into practice.
That is "provides the images..."
Thanks Brian! Chris is a great guy...would love to do some videos with Danny as well!
One other guy is Russell Heritage. He did one with the hips to start the downswing, like Eric’s, that finally got the light to turn on for me

How about the "stack and tilt golf swing"?
What about it, Alan?
@@CogornoGolf hi. Shoulder tilt described be your other printer and the stack and tilt swing framework?
Maybe draw a line from the eyes to rt thumb tip to feet because that is what the player sees.
Thanks for the feedback, Dave!
Best channel! Thank you!
Thanks, Joshua!

Nice collaboration boys..There’s some good stuff there.
Thanks, Paul!
I wonder who would win in a fight........Eric or Chris.
Ronald Delmonico 😂😂we’d end up just talking ‘golf swing’
Lol I don't think that day will ever come :) I haven't been in a fight since I was like 5....and I probably lost that one
A golf match would be best! Live stream it! Eric could do narration as Chris plays his shot, and vice versa... :-)
I like it!
Cherry-picking examples doesn't mean there is only one way. Jack's setup was not "arms straight down". He played some pretty good golf.
Thanks for your feedback, Rich!
Grest stuff
Appreciate that George!
