How to ZIP a File in Windows 10 [Tutorial]

How to create a zip file in Windows 10.
This tutorial goes into creating a ZIP a file or Folder in Windows 10. Compressing a file/ folder can be beneficial in: 1) Reduce size of a file or folder and 2) Combine multiple files into one.
This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops,and tablets running the Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7 operating systems. Works for all major computer manufactures (Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung).
From Microsoft:
To zip a file, open File Explorer from the taskbar. Right-click (or press and hold) the file you want to zip, and then select Send to - Compressed (zipped) folder.
What is a Zipped file?
Zipped (compressed) files take up less storage space and can be transferred to other computers more quickly than uncompressed files. In Windows, you work with zipped files and folders in the same way that you work with uncompressed files and folders. Combine several files into a single zipped folder to more easily share a group of files.

both methods i use add an extra file called ".." which contains my entire downloads folder instead of the one file i selected, how do i fix this?

I'm assuming that the first method is the one I would use if my files are not all in the same folder, because when I used the Share/Zip method, the first Zip file was not there to choose, so each file is in a separate zip folder.

I wanted to compress some old files so that they would take up less space in my drive. Does following this procedure accomplish that? I'm confused about why the original files stay where they were (files 1 2 and 3 are still on the desktop after the compressed file has been created). Does this process create a compressed copy?? Am i supposed to delete those original files?? Please help direct me.
