    Thanks so much, I have always struggled with this part of personal computing. Over the years I have given into the bad habit of storing everything on my desktop, as the desktop fills up, then I create a file on my desktop, dragging the excess pictures and documents there, ultimately never to be seen again. Thanks again for such a straightforward video here, you have shed a great light on this subject for me.

    Thank you for this great video. I have used Windows for many years at work, but could only get Windows 10 in a new laptop several years ago, and have been so frustrated with it. While trying to get photos off it for photo album consolidation, I started googling for help, deciding to find a basic Windows 10 tutorial, to start from scratch in understanding it, before I continued my project. I came across this video, and already learned things I hadn’t known.. I am going to check out your other videos in hopes of being better able to navigate it. Your narrative and instructions are exceptional! Thanks so much!

      Hi Stacy,
      I am glad these videos have helped you out. Great job getting back into computers, I hope that you're learning a lot. Typically, pc hard drives can hold more than enough pictures for the average user. I'd recommend storing them on an external hard drive if you have lots (10,000+) and don't want to use too much space on your pc. Thanks for watching and have a nice day!

    Thank you. Your first half dozen words made my life all the more easier because knowing that the "file explorer" was there took all the confusion out of windows 10 and its idiotic way of doing things. I can now navigate my computer the way it should be navigated, just as it was in windows 7. You're a star.

      Oh it was more than helpful. I have put off upgrading from Windows 7 for some years now and avoided Windows 8 like the plague. Had to bite the bullet last week and go to Windows 10 and it's sooooooo not friendly. Couldn't for the life of me figure out how to copy and past my photos from my phone to my PC and had to import them instead, then not being able to figure out how to organise things in *photos* was driving me nuts. As soon as I found your video and you said "I'm just gonna open file explorer" ..... BINGO. Everything was sorted. It's gonna take me a while to figure out *everything* but at least I can sort out my pics. Your video was clear and concise with no waffling so for that I thank you. Keep up the good work.

    Thank you for this great easy to follow video on Win10 file management. I knew my file organization was a mess, but when I recently upgraded Photoshop and did a bulk find of all graphic-type files, I found my files were a disaster. Back in the '80's, I lost a lot of irreplaceable files due to a HD crash and no backup. Since then I have mirrored every hard drive and have multiple drives mounted. While I no longer lose files these days, I do have multiple duplicates of the same files. There used to be a good program that searched and reported exact duplicates. Can you recommend a similar program? I definitely want to get organized as you show, but I first need to do some major "PC house cleaning". If my PC was my home, NOBODY would be invited over LOL. Thanks again and you have a new subscriber.

    • @ProfessorAdamMorgan
      @ProfessorAdamMorgan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sea BrzJo,
      I am happy this video was helpful for you. You’re not alone, many people have messy file organization. I also stress to my students how important it is to develop this skill, otherwise they will spend more time looking for files, and unfortunately, losing them. Backing up files is very important. Hard Drives are more durable than they used to be, but they can still crash like yours did. I don’t know of a good program to delete exact duplicates. Depending on how many files you actually have, you may find that most of them get cleaned up while you organize your drives. Perhaps focus on a few folders at a time. Don’t burn yourself out or you’ll have a tougher time organizing. Thanks so much for subscribing and best of luck with your organization.

      @@ProfessorAdamMorgan - okay, the fix that IT attempted didn't work. It seems every time they connect in my computer stops doing the sliding around. I still can't "rename files", and every time I attempt to open a file folder, to open a document or save a document, or anything, it ignores my cursor and floats back to the beginning of the folder or documents. Is this possibly something you can help with?

    • @ProfessorAdamMorgan
      @ProfessorAdamMorgan  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Georgia,
      I'm sorry but I haven't heard of this problem before. Typically if you go to rename a file, it'll only allow you do rename it within File Explorer or changing the save location. What happens if you click on the file, wait 2 seconds, and click on it again? Does it take you back to the primary folder?

    Very good tutorial - my only teeny criticism is that most users will not be seeing file extensions (.rtf .jpg etc) as that is not usually the default setting in Windows (for good reason as I'm sure you're aware). It would have been at least worth mentioning that for those that do have file extensions shown because they've turned on that option. As you know renaming and/or deleting a file extension has the potential to make a file unusable, unless you know how to rename back again! Cheers, Paul (Macclesfield, UK)

      Hi Paul,
      Yes, that is true, it is off by default. I do have a video on how to turn these on. It's before this one in the playlist, so if anyone is interested, here it is:

    You did an outstanding job of explaining how to organize folders - a big high five to you. The list in my navigation pane is out of order. So far I haven't found an answer on how to re-organize in alphabetical sequence. Maybe it's not possible? If it is, can you do a video about that subject? Would be forever grateful to you.

      Hi Ana,
      I appreciate that, thank you for watching. If you right-click on any of the sort options (Name, Status, Date Modified, etc.) and click More, you will see many options for customization. If you want, you can add or remove different options, and move important ones up or down on the list. From there, you can add Name, which will sort all files/folders in alphabetical order. I hope this helps!

    Professor Morgan you have No Idea how much you are helping me! I love the way you teach, very calm and slow and easy to understand. Unlike many of the other people on you-tube.I'm an older guy, 54- 55 in a few months and brand new to computers. Not only all this but you have answered all my questions so far. Thank you so much young man. Would you mind if I come to you with all of my future questions. I will have many I'm sure..Lol Like how do I transfer a pic from my folder to my cover photo on Face Book???? HaHa. Could you please answer that one for me or refer me to a link...Thanks again Gary.

      Hey Gary,
      Good! I'm glad the videos are helping you out. These tutorials are made with my students in mind, many of which are your age and just starting out with technology. It can be complicated if I move too quickly, so I'm glad the pace works for you.
      You can definitely ask my any questions you have. So I don't have any video tutorials about Facebook right now, but I'm sure I can point you in the right direction. Here are the steps to update you in the right direction:
      1 Go to your profile.
      2 Hover over Update Cover Photo in the top-left of your current cover photo.
      3 Click Update Cover Photo. If you don't currently have a cover photo, click Add Cover Photo.
      4 Choose whether you want to upload a new photo or pick a photo from one of your existing photo albums.
      5 Once you choose a photo, you can reposition it by clicking the image and dragging it up or down.
      6 Click Save Changes.
      By the way, this process is called 'Uploading' and I should have a video out on this process at some point this week. I hope this helps, and as always, thank you for the comment!

    You are what I have been looking for; your tutorials are easy to understand; thank you very much. I just purchased a new Windows 10 desktop and wonder if you can tell me how to transfer my old applications/programs from my old Windows 7 desktop to this new Windows 10 desktop. I do have Carbonite but not sure if it backs up my programs or not?

    • @ProfessorAdamMorgan
      @ProfessorAdamMorgan  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi GR Falt,
      I'm so glad my tutorials have been helpful for you and you find them easy to understand. Carbonite will only backup your files/folders. When you get a new computer, you typically have to download all of your old programs again. I hope this answers your question. Thanks so much for watching and have a nice day.

    Professor Morgan hope you're doing well. I've got a question that is probably going to sound really dumb, but I can't seem to figure out how to subscribe to a you-tube channel. I'd like to subscribe to your channel and one other. Do you have a link or easy step by step method ? I live alone up in the mountains and just don't have anyone to help me figure this stuff out.

    • @ProfessorAdamMorgan
      @ProfessorAdamMorgan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Gary, I am doing great thank you. I hope you are well. Okay so to subscribe to a TH-cam channel, you should see a subscribe button on every video page as well as the channel's home page. Here is a link to my home page. When you go there, you should be able to click the subscribe button as long as you're signed in.
      th-cam.com/channels/ML68AtcFhcKebYCRbYepeQ.html
      Once you do that, you can click the little bell icon next to the subscribe button to be notified whenever the channel posts a video. I don't know if you know, but I have well over 100 videos covering various computer topics. So if you'd like to learn software, my channel is a nice resource to do that. Let me know if you need any help.

    • @gary1286
      @gary1286 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for that info Professor Morgan. And no I didn't know you had so many video's posted. I'm sure at some point I'll need to learn everything contained in their content..............Ok I subscribed. That was much easier than I was making it out to be. haha.. Just like everything else you've taught me so far.

    • @gary1286
      @gary1286 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem Gary, and yes I think I have somewhere around 200 videos up right now. Glad you were able to subscribe and I hope the videos will continue to be helpful for you. Yes, subscribing is very easy once you know what to do. You'll find that to be the case more often than not, thanks!

    • @ProfessorAdamMorgan
      @ProfessorAdamMorgan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1
