The Dramatic Conclusion of The Van Project. Plus: How NOT To Use a Bead Roller

  • I've had several viewers ask what happened to the 1967 Gmc van project. Truth be told I never got around to filming an outro for it, although I did finish my part of the project, which was doing the major rust repair and repairing any large dents. I was going through the archives and found a few scraps and outakes from the update that I filmed for the patrons of the channel, so I decided to try and edit them into a "before and after" so you regular viewers can have some kind of closure for the project. I have also included a tutorial on how NOT to use a bead roller. Plus I have an exciting giveaway announcement for when we reach 10,000 subscribers.

Nice cameo by the 'diety'. Thanks for showing the van at its conclusion (at least in your shop), very impressive work. Years ago I took a high school sheet metal course but learned more from you in 15 minutes than I ever learned about how to use a bead roller. That might have something to do with the fact that I had the attention span of a nit! Thanks for the always economical refresher.

Even though I like doing metal work and making custom patch panels, I’m way behind you in that skill area! Lol 😅when I first saw this van I thought “no way” would I want to fool with that carcass unless I had some preformed patch panels. She was a holy roller!
I’m finishing up the paint and body on a 73 Dodge that had been patched and restored a couple decades ago, but it had some new areas that started rusting since. So I rebuilt the interior bottoms of three of its doors and patched some on the outside on the body and floor seams, around the rear wheel housings and drivers pan.
At any rate you did some great work on this one and I took away a few more tricks and tips I can use down the road myself! Bravo!

This is the exact van Handi van, i had rebuilt in high school. I made wooden bumpers front and rear out of oak... It was a rug cleaning van, so you can only imagine the rust, just like that one. It was so nice when i finished it....then one christmas day and vw came to play... I had driven over to the side of the road because freezing rain was on the windshield. I stopped to scrape it and then as soon as i came around to the side , BANG and my van was ten feet forward. The two huge stones that were in the rear for weight went thru the rear doors and landed in the windshield of the VW. hahahaha The guy was unhurt, but my van was totaled by my ins co...next vehicle...

I don't know if I have ever seen a GMC van like that from the 60's. I'm 51 and all the vans like that I have seen have all been Chevrolets. The GMC vans I've seen were from the 70's and up and even they were fairly rare.

The Van turned out great! TH-cam videos with before and after filming, and no real work done, are very popular, which when you think about it.. is a sad commentary on mankind. Well, I gota go... for some reason I'm hungry for smoked ribs. Cheers

It's helping me when I start the rust repair on my 57 chevy. Kyle, you should make the short drive to Brents and work the fenders on that 46 chevy he just acquired. lol, Cheers from Manitoba
