I love my Ego 2 stage. Last winter it went through the 2ft of snow at the end of my driveway like butter! Really saved my back from shoveling. 👍

Question; How does the unit drain the batteries? I ask because the batteries are quite expensive, so I'm wondering if both batteries drain simultaneously - which would require two backups, versus draining one at at time, which would require just one backup. Thanks.....

    • @dougp8890
      @dougp8890 2 ปีที่แล้ว

They pretty much drain simultaneously. If you run it on the lower speed I usually get about 40 minutes on the batteries. I have other ego products, so I have other batteries if I need them. My driveway only fits 4 cars so it’s not super huge. So I can do my whole driveway on one set of batteries.

Here's a tip .. spray the auger and chute with ceramic coat to reduce any snow sticking... use the lowest speed the lowest throwing distance you need to extend the battery life if you need some extra run time and then blow off your snow blower with your leaf blower.. just like you did! Nice video!

    • @EverydayReviews2022

Great tips. Yeah I realized that I was running the auger too fast unnecessarily resulting in lower runtime.

Nice review. We bought this same 2-stage EGO for this winter in Pennsylvania. My 13 y/o son want's snow so bad so he can use the snowblower. Big snow fall is very hit or miss in the Susquehanna Valley from year to year. But when it does hit, it is super nice to have a 2 stage snow blower. We love how easy it is to use. Quiet. No stinky gas engine. And starts with the press of a button. And to spin off what you said in the video: you can turn it on and off so easy when the neighbors are out and want to talk. You don't have a loud engine grinding away while you're trying to have a "short" conversation.

Also in the Susquehanna valley (actually right on the river here), although we just moved out last year. I haven't had Ego products before, and so bought a Greenworks single-stage blower last year to help clear off our driveway. The single stage seemed "okay" although the wetter snows really bogged it down (to where it was dribbling the snow out pretty much right next to itself instead of "throwing" it anywhere). But the main thing driving me to upgrade to the Ego this next year is the self-propelled feature. We have a 120' driveway that goes 30' up in that length (mostly evenly). Walking up and down it 3-4 times is enough work; trying to shove a snow blower into snow while going uphill is horrid and back-breaking work!

Living in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Just bought one for this year after I got fed up with my Toro Gas single stage (it was basically a piece of crap that never started well even when new, was noisy, smelly-but when it did work (rare) it was just OK). We have a long drive (100 foot) and large area between the garage and home as well as sidewalks. Was able to clear 7 inches of combination snow (some wet sloppy at the bottom of the pile covered by fluffy lake effect snow) with not much problem. Using the turbo mode was necessary, but even with turbo mode engaged most of the time I was able clear the entire area on ONE charge! It throws the snow like a beast!

@@slowride5633 The past two days have been a LOT of heavy, wet snow. Yesterday, the impellers got weighted down with slush and although didn't stop entirely, whenever the impellers got a bit clogged, the machine powered through and cleared itself! Today, we had another 6 inches of snow, but the snow was less heavy and less slushy, so no issues today. I had to use Turbo mode so, the battery barely lasted the entire drive and sidewalks, but it made it. I was surprised expecting to have charge the batteries before finishing the job. SO, overall, it is an amazing machine.

@@briantopolewski5292 I bought one tonight from Ace Hardware. The assembly was literally the 4 bolts on the handle and one on the chute and the rest was just waiting for the charge to complete on the batteries (about on hour to full). Very easy to get going. This thing worked incredibly well and I used 2 of the 5 battery bars on my 3 car driveway and sidewalks, and it handled this no problem at all. I am sure I will be able to use it again tomorrow but this thing turned my driveway into a trivial affair now.

First season with my new EGO 2-stage, it works great, however they always show clearing on nice paved drives, mine is gravel and it wears down the plastic skids very fast, they should have used metal. The plastic for them is way too soft. I've done a tweak that hopefully will solve the problem, had to do the same for my old gas unit which had metal skids. And I just purchased the leaf blower for that very purpose, as it takes a while to clean all the snow of the unit with a brush.

I thought for sure with the power required to push wet snow that even with 2 batteries I'd be lucky to run anything beyond 15 minutes. IDK. I have all other EGO battery tools except the snowblower. In Canada it’s $1800 with 2 x 7.5Ah batteries. You can get it with larger batteries or tool only setup. It also comes with a dual charger. In the US it will be less expensive.

Because of the supply/demand issues, I had to buy it from Amazon without the batteries. I ended up buying the 2-7.5 batteries later for 600$ so if you can find the kit with the batteries, you better get it ASAP

Only a half hour with two longer life 7.5 Ah batteries and more money than a conventional gas-powered snow blower?
I'll stick to my gas model until the battery life is improved.

It’s all going to depend on the type of snow. It loved wet stuff but used more battery. For sure if you’re blowing for hours this is not for you but for everyday usage it’s awesome especially since it’s so quiet compared to the gas pots. I literally was snow blowing at midnight 😂

I lived in Vancouver for many years, a few years ago I moved to Edmonton. I can tell you with certainty that a snow blower would be more useful in Vancouver than Edmonton. The snow is light an powdery in Edmonton and for the most part we get small amounts of snowfall (I can shovel my driveway in 5 to 10 minutes with minimal physical effort). Vancouver might only get snow a couple times a year, but when they do it's a huge dump and the snow is very heavy to shovel. I'd end up with a sore back from shoveling a smaller driveway than I have now.

Not sure of you were running it in the turbo setting or not but if you don't you'll get a lot more run time. You don't need to run it at the maximum speed for it to work its best.
Lol I always blow my vehicles off too!!!!

Wait until you try to buy shear pins for this pricey item. $11 a whack! Ridiculous, and a spare battery is $800!

I can easily handle the $11. I have a few spare that came with it so not worried about it yet.

@@EverydayReviews2022 Shear pins usually cost $.50. Even if you are independently wealthy, choosing to pay over 20x that for a proprietary piece of metal designed to fail, well. You just aren’t the sharpest tool in the shed, are you? Worry is not what I want, just appreciation that this machine is crap in heavy wet snow. It broke 2 shear pins on the first storm and ran out of battery power pretty damned quick. All these TH-cam reviews are full of it.

EGo rules. The only downside of the snowblower is having to store it for 5 years until the next time Surrey gets 7” of snow. LOL.
