    First test of my Snow Joe was a massive blizzard that dropped 20+ inches of snow with drifts well over 3ft. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN This snow thrower is definitely not designed for this much snow but it powered through it. We did have to knock down taller drifts with a shovel and at times the chute was awkward because snow banks were much higher than it could throw, but still much easier than shoveling. The plus side of the small size is the maneuverability. Easy to lift up to walkways and works in tight spaces near cars. Highly recommend.Note: after assembling it started but did not turn. The belt wasn't in place. Easy fix.

    I just bought one of these yesterday and set it up. FYI, most heavy things like this come in a box that lifts up from the bottom. We just had to cut the tape along the bottom and the box lifted right off the top. :)

Would never consider gas powered lawn tools ever again. A second 5 Amp battery isn't cheap. This is year 13 for me as a home owner and I’ve gone through at least 3 or 4 Battery-powered lawn mowers, only used them about 15 hours per year too.

    • @EverydayReviews2022
      @EverydayReviews2022  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can still move the blower by holding the left handle and the just let go of the right handle to stop the auger. You can depress the auger handle when you want again and can do this continuously until you let go of both handles which will require you to push the start button again first before starting the auger. Btw, you can always squeeze the right handle to move the blower without pressing the start button. Hope that helps.

Nothing like blowing snow and the chute changes direction and blows the snow directly in the brand new windows that I just installed on my house.

    We're expecting 3ft of snow this weekend and my 20 yo single stage Toro is on it's last legs so I went out and bought a 2-stage Craftsman for $899. Got home and it turns out that it won't start and has assembly build issues. So I returned it and I'm sticking with my smokey 20 yo Toro for this weekend. I'm now glad I returned the Craftsman. In the Fall before next winter, I now plan to go electric and this will be at the top of my list. My only question, is batteries have a finite life so what is the ability and cost to replace batteries down the road when these are spent... Will Ego still be around by then....?

    • @EverydayReviews2022
      @EverydayReviews2022  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      EGO is a very cemented company in the outdoor power equipment market and I can’t see them going anywhere. Their products are some to the best and their battery systems are compatible with all their products making it a great and addictive ecosystem to get into. I’m picking up one if their hedge trimmers later this week and I’m eyeing up their chainsaw as well.

    • @plmn93
      @plmn93 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. And under warranty, if there's a problem you need to ship them off for repair. 4-6 weeks without your mower or blower. You can't really deal with that, the only option is to hire out while it is away or buy a spare. That's why I'll never buy EGO.

    Like Lawn mowers these Battery Powered are going to be a much bigger investment than a gas powered engine. In Canada they retail for $1,799 which is the same as the Ariens Deluxe 28 which comes with all steel components, a 14” auger and 254cc engine (12.5 foot lbs of torque). The EGO comes with 7.5ah battery power so those batteries are over $300 to replace so really for about 5 years of use it’s an investment of $1,700 + $700 = $2,400 CDN.
    If you’re comfortable with that, and don’t expect to get more than 5 years out of it then go for it. I’ve never gotten more than 4 years out of a Battery-Powered tool so don’t expect much more than that even if you do replace the batteries. The key benefits here are a quiet motor and no emissions, others to consider are weight of the machine and maintenance. All those are strong reasons to buy a battery powered product over gas-powered.
    Another key thing to remember is to keep the batteries inside and don’t use it very long, sure you might be able to get 30 minutes out of the battery, or even more than that, but will it work the next time? Or has there already been enough damage? If the temperature is below 5 Celsius you are at risk, it should not be stored at less than that, also consider the wind chill, is it below -20 Celsius when you are using it? That could do a lot of damage very quickly. EGO recommends to charge it at between 5 and 40 degrees Celsius so go by that, yes you can store it in as cold as -20 in an enclosure, but let’s think about that for a second.
    Have you ever left a lithium battery in your garage all winter? Did it work in the Spring? Likely not. These EGO batteries may have more protection to handle cold temperatures but at $300 per battery? I definitely would store them and charge them inside. Lots of stories about these batteries not charging or going dead after being left out in the cold.

    • @EverydayReviews2022
      @EverydayReviews2022  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great comment. Maybe I’ve been lucky but all my batteries stay in my garage over winter and to be honest, I’m terrible with battery management regardless if it’s my garden tools, drones, RC planes etc. I’ve had other batteries with my toys puff but I have several EGO batteries going 6 years with pretty well no change in performance. I don’t put any maintenance charge in them, discharge or anything. Knock on wood. Battery technology is changing so fast and just getting better and better however there is a steep investment as you mentioned. Thanks again for your insight.

      wind chill does NOT affect inanimate objects....wind chill is the "feel" temperature on HUMAN skin....back to batteries....i have 5 tools and 3 came with batteries, some 2...that said, if you rotate your stock amongst all your tools and charge them regularly, you will probably get longer than 5 yrs out of them...with all my batteries, the last two items i purchased were the tool only and no batteries...this saves money and with the little usage of certain tools like hedge trimmer or chainsaw, the life of the battery increases because you don't use the tool as often...hope this helps

      And Ariens, and Toro. My Ariens is on its 20th season and still performs like new with nothing more than regular maintenance. Oil changes, plugs, one carb rebuild kit and one friction disc. This EGO will probably be on its 4th set of batteries at that point...or rather it would be if you can still buy them which you almost certainly will not. But if you can, you'd be nearly tripling the original cost to keep it going, and that original cost is already about double an equivalent gas blower. Evidently buying disposable equipment at a premium and dumping it in a landfill after 5-6 years is considered to be environmentally friendly today.

    • @1905934
      @1905934 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@plmn93 Why do you assume there is only a few hundred charge cycles. Most lithium batteries if treated properly are rated for a minimum of 6,000 cycles. It is only the Kock brothers fake reports that state less than 6,000 cycles. I already have well over 300 cycles on my Ego mower.

    • @plmn93
      @plmn93 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1905934 LOL, no, I didn't get that information from Koch brothers, so you can take off the tinfoil hat. There is very consistent information out there, 300-500 cycles before significant degradation. On top of that, fast charging, which EGO uses, degrades them even faster. Even unused sitting on a shelf, EGO themselves only give their batteries a ten year rating and refuse to give them a charge cycle rating, which they surely would if it was as high as you claim. The runtime of this blower will be significantly less in 5 years than it is today, that's just a fact. Anybody who has ever used lithium ion batteries over several years knows this.
