Thank you for such a great and in-depth review. It’s always challenging with what I call the kitchen sink software where there’s so much hidden within sub menus to know what is actually going to be useful for you or not. Those preset focal length triangles are pretty sweet though.

Thanks Jen. Yeah, I feel the capability order is Camera ap → Final Cut → BlackMagic.
Given the trivial shooting I do, I'll use Camera or FC, but anyone who's serious would surely use the BlackMagic app.

This is a nice comparison video and I would like to get to know more about the Blackmagic App. I seem to revert to the iPhone Camera when out and about because of it's ease of use: When I'm on the go, holidays, vacation and so on some times I need quick response time. I think learning the Blackmagic App "might" be helpful but I'm not sure. If it's no trouble for you, a Blackmagic video would be appreciated.

The Black Magic App has an Android version and it also integrates with Davinci Resolve so if you use that video editing software the black magic camera app is better suited for you. Another fantastic video Jenn. Love 🥰 the video and love ❤Jenn.

For now will use FC Cam v BlackMagic Cam like I do for editing with Final Cut v Resolve, simpler faster shoots/project w Final Cut, more in depth ones with BlackMagic.

Good explanation of the 2 apps. After some research and deciding on buying a Tentacle Track E, I'm going with the Black Magic app since it will allow me to add time code to my iphone recording. I am so done with the hand clap thing.

For me since I have been editing more in Resolve, the BM camera app is what I’ve been using. I’d probably still use the BM camera app when i edit in Final Cut.

    ❤great overview, thank you Jenn!
I am an intermediate, so I will use FCC for now. BM is comprehensive but for my needs a bit too much. Workflow and ease win over feature richness, for now.

I use the BM cam app mostly because they offer a 50FPS which Apple still not offer in the FC cam app and also not in the standard cam app

I found camera stabilization a bit better in the FCPcam app than in the BMapp. Also setting up SSD media storage was easier with FCPc. Interestingly, I thought the BMapp did better with audio. I’m using the Smallrig cage with a Smallrig shotgun mic. My $0.02. Happy 4th!

You leaving out the Kino camera app. It’s the happy medium between BM and FC camera app.

My Final Cut Camera is a bit buggy. Sometimes it works or sometimes I get a black screen (I am using iOS 18 beta on iP 15 PM).
By the way, is FCC's sharpness as bad as the native camera stock? If so, then I'll stick to BMC.

Today it happened that Final Cut Camera on my iPhone 15 Pro Max recorded ProRes 422 HDR 4K 60p to the internal 1TB SSD of my iPhone 15 Pro Max like the Blackmagic camera app can record ProRes 422 HDR 4K 60p to the internal SSD. This clip on my MacBook Pro M1 QuickTime shows info "ProRes 422 HQ HDR HLG 4K 60p 12 bit"

@@mosijahi3096 Final Cut Camera on iPhone 15 Pro series can only record ProRes 422 HDR 4K 60fps to USB-C external SSD. I think that Final Cut Camera like the Blackmagic camera app can record ProRes 422 HDR 4K 60p to the internal SSD iphone 15 pro but Apple has blocks it.

At 5:40 I switch to 4x3 (and do this multiple times throughout the video) because there's multiple narratives. 2:35.1 is for cinematic portions, full 16x9 for swap meet footage, and 4x3 for educational. I've done this in several videos. It is intended to keep the video organized and in flow for the viewer. Everything is done in FCPX.
It's an overt nod to Wes Anderson and films like the Grand Budapest Hotel, where the 4x3 framing informs the viewer of which time period they are watching.

i need what ever camera app that is best at naming photos and creating folders and easily filing and sorting pictures. my built in samsung app isnt good at it. also gallery app isnt good at it.
i capture evidence and need them specifically labeled or else i lose track of why i took that picture. i guess i could use google keep on rare circumstances but google keep gets too clustered i am doing that task with 100s or 1000s of photos.
i also need to find a GOOD app at recording phone calls all the ones i used had poor audio or compressed the files in a way that i couldnt upload those audio tracks to my computer.

Black magic is for DaVinci Result ❤ Final Cut Pro ❤ I like working DaVinci & Final Cut Pro both of them 😂❤ but final cut is more easy.

My guess is the "weird 4:3" ratio is because Apples big push is to use this as a multi-cam with the iPad. And we all lament that has not changed.😩

Blackmagic is the best camera app for sure.Final cut camera is awful.
