Though I do not entirely agree with everything AG, I am so grateful for everything my AG mentors and teachers invested into me. I am the man, the believer, and the witness into the lives of others because of the Spiritual wisdom and discernment instilled into me because of those God sent AG teachers in my life. I am confident in what I need to know about my own salvation, and I am able to evangelize to others because of those AG mentors. If anyone needed me to pray for them right now on the spot or pray over food or any event I can confidently do so, because of AG roots and what they sowed into me.

My old AG fellowship did the tongues and interpretations thing. It happened so often that after a while it started to seem fabricated and disingenuous. Especially when it was the same person every time it happened.
The fellowship I currently volunteer for rarely does tongues and interpretation, if ever. In the last four years I’ve been here, I haven’t heard a single public message in tongues.
I have some credentials in the AG, but I’m really not a fan of how die hard they are about speaking in tongues. Over time they seem to be getting even more zealous about it which doesn’t sit too well with me

    • @7someone

In my AG church the spirit would manifest in multiple people, so the person that started the message wasn't the same one that ended the message. Then somebody else would interpret the message. Our senior pastor would then caution the assembly and would say that every message had to lineup with scripture. If something was out of place he told us to beware deceiving spirits.

    • @floridapanhandling3136
      @floridapanhandling3136 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Incorrect, nowhere in Scripture does Paul make the statement that tongues are the lest of all gifts. He does, in 1 Corinthians 14, explain the role of tongues in the church, and though he says that he "speaks in tongues more than you all," he states that he would rather speak five words in that church's language than a thousand words in an unknown tongue, so that when the Gospel is preached, it may be understood by unbelievers who are present.

I am 64 years old and have been associated with the Assemblies of God since I was 5.
One of most important lessons I have learned over the years is "Don't judge scriptural truth by the behavior of people."
I think it is the behavior of some people in the past that has left a bad taste in people's mouths when it comes to Pentecostalism. There have been mentally and emotionally unstable people drawn to the Pentecostal movement, but that doesn't mean that Pentecostal truth is false.
In all four gospels, Jesus is introduced into His public ministry as "the Lamb of God" who takes away the sins of the world, and "the baptizer in the Holy Spirit." The apostle Paul says in Galatians 3 that Christ redeemed us so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit. Finally, Jesus Himself spent considerable time near the end of His earthly ministry in preparing His disciples for the coming of the Holy Spirit.
So Spirit-baptism is not some unimportant, peripheral issue. It is at the very heart of the gospel itself. The question was, and is, how will I know when the Holy Spirit has come upon me? How will I know when I have been baptized in the Holy Spirit? It was searching out the answer to that question in Scripture which resulted in the return to seeking the promise of the Father - the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
Thank you for such a fair-handed coverage of this subject.

      @Tyler-Hoskins 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Good morning. AG Worship pastor in the state of Iowa here. I wanted to discuss with you the topic of spirit-baptism. I do believe that we all have the Holy Spirit within us at the moment of salvation. The belief I struggle with that the General Council has pushed for years is that you aren’t not baptized by the Holy Spirit until you speak in tongues. Fortunately, I’ve received this gift. But the AG has really planted their flag on this and made it almost equal to salvation, which I’m hesitant to believe. But my question is, why so much emphasis on the gift of tongues? Did not Paul say that some would not receive this gift? Yet, the AG, in my recent understanding, will not even allow credentials to those who have not yet received the gift of tongues.

Growing up in the AG, I rarely questioned its doctrines. In adulthood I started going to a different church for reasons unrelated to doctrine that is quite theologically similar to the AG. The older I get and more voices I hear outside of the AG, the more I see that they take a very eisegesis approach to morality that is much more rooted in their early 20th century founding than what scripture actually says. Particularly with alcohol, they take the stance that because alcohol CAN be dangerous and the Bible says drunkenness is wrong, the Bible must mean that it should be avoided totally. But here's the thing, that's an antibiblical view. Ecclesiastes says that it is good to be merry and drink with friends. Jesus turned water into wine. 1 Timothy acknowledges alcohol's medical use. Proverbs has a lot to say about alcohol, and not only just warnings of drunkenness like the AG pretends. Chapter 104 says that wine makes the heart glad. A true exogesic reading of scripture quite clearly says that drunkenness is a sin, but that consumption of alcohol itself is not only acceptable but occasionally encouraged. Now take this example and apply it to most things that were on the minds of people form 1890-1910 and you get the official stance of the AG on most things, and many of them are just plain not Biblical.

    • @calebneff5777
      @calebneff5777 ปีที่แล้ว

The quote beginning at 6:30 is a great logical interpretation of much of scripture, but the thing is that you can't just logic your way through the Bible. This is a perfect example and has resulted in a straight up anti-biblical teaching.

I've generally seen complete abstinence from alcohol as the official position of most classic Pentecostal groups. Congregations or individuals may think and practice differently.
I was a P.K. and teetotaling was big in my household. I was confused when I went to another P.K.'s house in the same denomination one day and the dad (a minister) popped open a can of Pabst (or similar).

Historically, Pentecostals across the spectrum were relatively legalistic, such as prohibiting alcohol. The AoG isn't as legalistic as it once was, but it still retains some of that, such as opposition to alcohol. But, even that is fading.

Its important to note that the thief on the cross next to Jesus died BEFORE Christ arose from the dead and ascended into heaven. Thus the New Covenant didn't apply to him. At Pentecost, the current way of how to be saved started, which INCLUDES water Baptism (Acts 3:37-40) also Mark 16:15-16. It's always astounded me that Pentecostals (who are named after the Event at Pentecost) don't understand and practice this.

I’m very interested in this. I grew up, and still go to, the same AoG church. I’ve been there my whole 34 years of life. But I feel like we are not really Pentecostal.
We don’t have tongues speaking, yet we technically “affirm the gifts of the spirit, including tongues”. We don’t have running around, or “prophecy shouting” or anything like that.
Growing up we had a few people that would shout in tongues every week. Then about 20 years ago our pastor taught that there shouldn’t be tongues without an interpretation and it coincidentally stopped.
We have a very scripture grounded, expositional pastor. And even though I’d probably consider myself more of a reformed Baptist at this point, I almost never have an issue with the teaching. Most of us also believe in eternal salvation as well, which is apparently not AoG belief.

Assembly of God believes in salvation, they believe in the scripture “he that endureth until the end shall be saved” and that’s why they can’t agree with baptists because Baptist preach “once you’re saved you’re always saved” which is not found in the Bible anywhere.
Baptist think that you are deemed “saved” when you get baptized, and even though I think that is the starting point of you getting saved I believe that God desires us to live a life for him rather than living a life for ourselves just because we got baptized at 9 years old and we think we can do whatever we want and still be saved.

@@daltonmilburn2772 I think you need to clarify what you are talking about. Baptist is a very broad theological heading. AoG would fall into the Baptist camp.
I must assume you are referring to the SBC. The standard in the SBC should not be baptismal regeneration. Look into the Stone Campbell movement and the SBC if you want history on the topic.
It is most likely a lack of doctrinal understanding that causes so many in the SBC to divorce perseverance of the saints (once saved always saved) from the rest of reformed theology. Clearly Scripture teaches that a truly saved person is known by the fact that they continue to follow and glory God until the end. This is true for both Arminians and Calvinists, the two sides just understand the reason you continue in your faith differently.

Do AG churches resemble the Word of Faith hyper-charismatic churches? There's a United Pentecostal church near me and I've tried watching their service online, but I get big Kenneth Copeland vibes from the "God as your personal ATM" preaching and prayer.
It's really off-putting when the people leading 'worship' are saying, "You know why you're here today-uh! You're here to receive something-uh! Maybe it's help with your finances-uh! A new car-uh! A better job-uh! A healthier marriage-uh! Jesus is in the room with you-uh! He's passing through-uh! And he's gonna give you what you want-uh! Hallelujah-uh!"
I had planned to do a tour this summer of all the local churches in my hometown, which are mostly a split of evangelical and mainline congregations, but I'm crossing that one off the list for now. I'm curious if an Assembly of God church would be similar to this.

2033: REST OH FAIR, THERE IS LITTLE LEFT.
Biblical symbology reveals to us that for God a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand
years as a day; therefore, in the person and work of the Lord Jesus himself, his
reappearance is revealed on the morning of the third day (beginning of the third millennium,
21st century). Sacred Scripture also reveals that the time given to the Church's mission is
two days (two thousand years), which end in 2033, since the Church was founded in the
year 33. The next facts that will impact the world are: 1- The uprising of the world ruler
(antichrist). 2- Martyrdom of Christians and the rapture of the Church. 3- The third world war
and the great massacre of the Jewish nation by Russia. After these three episodes, Christ,
THE KING OF JERUSALEM, will descend together with his saints, on the mount of olives,
for the implantation of the millennial government (Rev. 19:15). The war and its end will take
place according to Zechariah 14: Israel on the brink of extermination, and the annihilation of
world military forces. Thus will be the second coming of the one who was killed and revived.
In this glorious episode many will die, but others will be preserved on earth. Being the
conqueror of all armies, the world comes to belong to Christ, the King of Jerusalem. (Rev.
11:15). Now, we, incorruptible disciples, for a thousand years, will reorganize planet earth
(the only planet with intelligent life). 1- The Judiciary System will be extinguished. 2- Police
and armies from all over the world will have new and unique command. 3- Traffics and
militias will be extinguished, now Christianity reigns in the scepter of the Gospel. 4- Nobody
else will say my door or my house, everything will be from the conqueror of the valley of
Armageddon. 5- The Creator of the coronavirus, will exterminate all pests, automatically
sentencing Science to its end. 6- The world speaks one language again (Gen. 11: 1). 7- We
will not eat meat, there will be no blood shed in the personal kingdom of Jesus Christ. 8- All
pagan temples, catholics, spiritists, assemblies of god, baptists, and movements called
evangelicals will be sealed at the disposal of the Great King of Jerusalem, and no spiritual
entity will ever be mentioned again. Truth and justice assume their throne over humanity.
Soon, after the coronavirus, we will have hunger, pests, plagues, and a class of self-loving
political leaders who, like leeches, will not get enough of their robberies and murders, taking
advantage of catastrophes to get rich, they have until 2033 to adjust accounts. The
curriculum of the faculties will undergo changes, and my brothers and I will witness in the
Universities, where all the Constitutions will be extinguished, and the Glorious Gospel of the
Kingdom will be taught to all people, then the end will come (Matt. 24:14).

Not exactly. Speaking a “word” in tongues for interpretation, typically whatever the local pastor allows in the congregation of believers. So, if he/she believes the person speaking loudly in tongues is not speaking a word, they will shut them down. @@Tyler-Hoskins It is a doctrinal issue because the doctrine of tongue speaking being the initial evidence of "holy spirit baptism" leaves anyone who can't speak in tongues (read: everyone, since the gift of tongues ceased shortly after the death of the apostles) constantly fretting about their state of grace.
Even though the AG is more moderate on the matter of tongues than other Pentecostal bodies and view tongue speaking more as a matter of full sanctification than salvation as such, the fact is that tongue speaking as practiced in Pentecostalism is unbliblical nonsense that leads many away from the faith altogether.
What Baptists don't realize is that they helped open the door for Pentecostalism by rejecting the sacraments as offering salvation. Faith yearns for something external to cling to. That's why Christ instituted baptism and the Lord's Supper. By considering these things to be merely symbolic the Baptists left a void which was then filled by the Pentecostal idea of tongue speaking. That's why there's so much overlap between Baptist and Pentecostal family and social circles.
Baptists try to get around this dilemma of concern over one's state of grace by teaching eternal security, which is not Biblical(well, it is, but not the way Baptists teach it). The Arminian view of salvation isn't Biblical either but they are at least correct in teaching that salvation can be lost, the problem being that like the Baptists they still hold to decision theology which is the ultimate salvation heresy.
Moreover, since people outside the Christian faith can plainly see that modern tongue speaking is manipulative nonsense (barring highly exceptional cases that almost certainly don't exist), and acceptance of it has spread so far into other denominations that aren't Charismatic or Pentecostal (virtually every so-called non-denominational church will at least tolerate it), that leaves our unbelieving neighbors to see Christians as generally being superstitious weirdoes who lack critical thinking skills.

John 17:24-25 " ...for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. Righteous Father, although the world has not known You, yet I have known You; "
The whole passage is IN THE PAST. In the passage we can see a WORLD vs. JESUS CONFRONTATION : in this confrontation Jesus succeeded in knowing the Father, whilst the world FAILED instead. But WHY did the world fail ? The easy answer is in the same passage : the Father is "before the foundation of the world". Since the Father is BEFORE, He is antecedent and therefore cannot be known by the world: in other words Father and world did not exist at the same time. This means that Jesus WINS this confrontation: on the contrary He is ABLE to know the Father. Why? Of course because Jesus is OLDER than the world and was thus able to know the Father. This means that no other Being saw God. "No one has ever seen God" (John 1:18). The meaning of all that is extremely important : the almighty GOD ONLY EXISTED IN THAT REMOTE PAST.
This is why the Father is NOT AVAILABLE here: the only way to "somehow" see the Father is to SEE JESUS (see the answer to Philip). The almighty God cannot "disappear" though: He dropped his power (this is where they differ) and became like a normal man : Jesus "He who has seen me has seen the Father" (John 14:9). Thus, now Jesus is ALONE and has "all things into his hand" (John 3:35). This is why the Father is here just in the LIMITED FORM of a spirit ("God is a spirit" John 4:24).
(When you have someone on the phone, he is in LIMITED FORM in your room, you can talk to, but not touch him).
