  • Craig Lowndes Announces Retirement From Full-Time Driving
We like to say a big THANK YOU to one of our Eagers Holden ambassadors Craig Lowndes. We hope to still work in the future with you.
Craig Lowndes will retire from full-time driving at the end of the 2018 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship season.
Although Lowndes’ contract to drive for Triple Eight Race Engineering is in place to the end the 2019 season, the decision to step back from full-time duties behind the wheel was reached mutually between him and Triple Eight Managing Director Roland Dane.
The Autobarn Lowndes Racing driver has achieved a win and three podium finishes so far in 2018 and currently sits fourth in the championship. It is important to both Lowndes and the team that he finishes his full-time driving career on a high and these strong results so far this season have been representative of this.
“I’ve always said there are two key factors keeping me racing and those are my motivation to keep getting up and doing what I love and my competitiveness, and for me, nothing has changed. But at the same time I want to make sure I finish my last full-time season with some strong results in the bag and after this year’s results so far Roland and I came to the decision between us that this will be my last full season behind the wheel,” said Lowndes.

I was genuinely upset hearing he was going to retire. I spoke to him a few months back when he said he had signed a contract for another 2 years. Was expecting a 2019 retirement. Not this early. I've been a fan since I first started watching Supercars. All the best, Lowndesy!

there are very few aussies that I find are -:humble, generous, courteous, and actually very nice blokes...but this guy is a stand out. I've watched Lowndsie for many years, and despite numerous occassions where he may have said a cross word, and wanted to say an expletive, he has been a gentleman. Perhaps a few aussie cricketers may wish to copy his personna......along with Brockie, he is one of the greats of aussie sport...CHEERS CRAIG

I am not really a Ford/Holden type of guy. I follow drivers. Craig has driven both. He has been my favourite driver during my time of watching V8SC.

Roland and I, Roland and I, Roland and I.
He's not saying it was his decision, he's saying it was a joint one. And even that is a bit of a stretch.

I was part of the crew that wasn't sure how much longer he would be driving full time. When he answered the critics in 2018 I was very surprised. When I heard of his retirement I was surprised but I was sad. As I did not want him to go into retirement.

Wait until the public hear the real reasons why CL was forced to retire.. 888 racing and V8 Supercars together have made this decision. Brocky would be turning in his grave right now.

Smart move Craig, you have a family to love and care for; let's face it, that's better than any drive in a race car, and you don't want to end up like Brocky.

swagonwheels A) I don't believe it was all his decision to retire B) he has only retired from full time racing C) Brocky had also retired from full-time racing when he died in the Targa west crash.

My point exactly, Craig should ensure history isn't repeated, he has far greater responsibilities than killing himself for the fans.

Shit there would be a lot of teams wanting him to drive for them I'm sure. The first four cars I owned where FX FJ FE FC in order I've seen two great drivers start and end their career this one a bit early I think. The other died wurst luck.

Craig Lowndes being motivated and competitive keeps you in the race car? And you said for you nothing's changed . So why retire then?

    • @bradlinsley8028
      @bradlinsley8028 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Because his contract is ending and he feels he should end it now on a high note instead of risking it and ending on a low in 2019 after his contract is gone.

Craig Lowndes - I'm so pissed and annoyed about how his so-called retirement has been made for him im sure....
It's so not his decision. You don't announce your retirement "with a heavy heart" when your have made the decision. You would be content and affluent and decisive on where you intended to go. I cannot take this as a gospel move from him, I'm rather disheartened like I feel he is
