@@panmanafro A lot of events were never even made available outside of Japan, especially back in the Gen 3, 4, and 5 games, which had entire areas and cutscenes for each event, but I wouldn't say that I'm missing 40% of the game. Maybe like 2%, and even then, that's generous. Nowadays, all you're missing is a dude in a Pokemon center handing you a gift, and that feels like 40%?

as most of the games stand without spending extra money the most you can/could have done was collect all the items
lately it's been more like missing out on 20% because of trading and better events but the pokemon company is lazy with these games because they make money with little to no effort

Zeraora and mewtwo event was the coolest thing we ever had in sword and shield and it's easy to limit at one catch for each players
@@mathcs9991 thats barely an event tbh. See victini, keldeo in gen 5, shaymin in gen 4. I will give it to ORAS and Crown Tundra for providing quest lines for deoxys and keldeo.
@@mathcs9991 no it was not an easy event. I don't know how hard or long time I tried to get to mewtwo or zeraora but I could not get to those pokemons no matter how hard I tryed so don't say it was an easy event
there should be a new game that comes out where all the mythical pokémon come together and the creators can make back story for all of them

Yeah idk when GameFreak started to think it was okay to just throw these things into the games without backstory IN THE GAMES.
I do remember they said they gave up on doing in-game stuff for the event pokemon because it could be datamined and hacked and ruined, but that's not really an excuse anymore with games like Sword and Shield being essentially live-service things that can be patched.
How hard is it for them to make 30 seconds of animations in the Wild Area for a Zarude event?
Pokemon fans really think "you can make content time limited as long as it looks fancy" lmao.
I'm more dissapointed by how the mythicals were obtained. Like in gen 4 where you had actual events where you could catch them. I didn't like how you could just download them and have them in your party now
Almost like it's a marketing gimmick and they realized that they could just do the minimum effort and people would still attend.
It was an experience I heard and now it’s just handed to you by some guy in a Pokémon center or Pokémon home like how are you supposed to get that magearna unless you’ve been a Pokémon fan since 2016?
But the current method is much more accessible than the previous method (to a point, it still requires an internet connection which is still a privilege in many households but usually if you have access to handheld games you have access to home internet).
I can’t imagine not having car access or being disabled in varying ways and having to make extra effort to go to these places to download them. Esp if you live in a rural town on top of that. Pokemon aren’t real, there’s nothing to getting mythical pokemon that says anything about your skill or prowess. They should be in the game lol. Varying difficulties within the game to catch it? Absolutely. THAT would add skill and luck to it that you can brag about :)

What's really unfortunate about older games is that there are areas in those games that are locked forever. Older mythical events are basically locked, on-disk DLC.

With the virtual console release of Crystal, they have the event for Celebi automatically in the game, which previously was not obtainable for most people in the world. I imagine they could do some more things like this if they re-release older games like Ruby and Saphire on the switch.
In gen 4 there are two ways to still go to these areas; the void glitch and the dns exploit (also in gen 5). You should check them out because they’re very interesting

You literally described my entire childhood lol, we had no Nintendo presence here hence 0 events, all you could do is watch the Anime & the films and think how much you want Mew etc.

Seems were the same sharon. I too am kinda disappointed due to the fact that the nintendos presence in my country is absolute 0%, wats worse is dat, my country currency doesnt even exist in the nintendo shop, so i have to make a us account

That 20th anniversary event was literally one of the best times to be a Pokemon fan since the big boom from gen 1-3

@PMDP S2806 Then there wouldn't be any value to anybody's pokemon collection. Legendaries are already worthless, even the rarest of normal pokemon are easy enough to come by, and mythicals likewise, wouldn't be valuable. The only way for any pokemon to be worth anything would be for it to be shiny.

A friend of mine in the army was making a full shiny living dex. One day he needed a new pair of boots so I gave him an extra pair (we were in the same unit) and he traded it for a shiny Jirachi.

I remember when my grandma went out of her way to bring me to a GameStop on the last day of the Keldeo event. I had to connect to the GameStop WiFi to get it and it took forever, but it was worth it
I really don't like how despite being "Event" Pokemon, it's not all that eventful. Just being handed a Pokemon with Zero context is really saddening, even more-so when you can't even get them based on where you live. I felt nothing for Pokemon like Volcanion, Marshadow or Magearna. Sure they're cool but just lacks that extra substance.
Never had a volcanion(legitimately) it just popped out from nowhere to me so I get your point I wished they did have some type of event like shaymin or victini a backstory, cutscene or whatever, but just boom! here's a Pokémon doesn't work for me

I cheated the azure flute into my platinum game and I don't regret it at all because at least I had to battle and catch it.
But with Mythicals these days it's "Gotta receive em all" and I long for the days where events actually were events instead of giveaways.
Zeraora was announced in Australia but it never came. I called my local eb games twice and they said people had been calling all day about the Zeraora and we never got it. So now I have a legit shiny Zeraora but not a legit regular one.

Recently, I have been trying to get a Home living Dex, but I haven't been able to finish it due to mythicals. The main reason why I'm upset about it is because most all mythical pokemon I could have gotten, but I was to young to figure out how to obtain them.

Started playing pokemon 2016, so yes, there's a lot I missed out on over the years.
I like the idea of rolling time-window events. Every year for example, a short window that you can grab a mythical for a week or month. So you have to pay attention, but you could also get it next year if you miss out. So it keeps it special, but still accessible.
Still missing Manaphy and Hoopa in my living dex. Going to find a copy of Pokemon Ranger. Thanks Bird Keeper Toby.

A copy of Pokemon Ranger that hasn't done the event is very hard to find. I have one sealed copy that I've been stuck in limbo between preserving forever and opening so I can get Manaphy.
You can now get manaphy in legends arceus 🙂but hoopa is still currently unavailable
I related to this video so much! As a person in Jamaica, GameStops and related stores don't exist here, and because I don't live in or near the city, making it to raids, completing events (or heck just finding a PokeStop) in Pokémon GO was difficult before the pandemic. Honestly, if it wasn't for my friends throughout social media. Getting some mythical Pokémon would be impossible. I'm extremely grateful to them and the mythicals released in game. That being said, I still don't have a couple.

I agreed just like they added Keldeo,they can even make that part of the history of the game after catching the legendary and besting the league there are rumors of the mythical Pokémon but they give you hard riddles and few clues so you can investigate talk to all people in game,etc,etc.You probably find the footprints and that indicates is nesr and its roaming,there’s a lot of opportunities and ideas that can make this happen,but they don’t care about their fans anymore

I can't begin to thank you for telling us the QR code still worked! I've been working on a Living Dex on and off for the last 2 or 3 years and was starting to worry about how to get some of the mythical pokemon. Thank you so very much!
Mew is my favorite Pokémon ever, so back in 2016 for the 20th anniversary, I knew this could possibly be my only shot to get it. Luckily I met a really cool guy who worked at GameStop who said they were absolutely overstocked with the event codes. Ended up getting ten Mews and I haven’t run short since.
As someone who's favourite part of Pokemon is completing the Pokedex, simply not having access to some mythicals that I missed just really sucks. Wish they would either put the mythicals in the game but make them extremely difficult to get and require a ton of grinding, or just do distributions more often.
Also please stop with the going to stores to get a code in person that was so dumb and awkward lol and they wont give you more than one code most of the time so if you have both sword and shield for example and you want 2, too bad you only get 1

I kinda like the fact that some pokemon are actually rare and difficult to get. Its like a little reward for playing all these years and every generation. Got to catch em all should be a challenge. If someone has a legit living Dex its very impressive. Let's keep it that way.

That problem with Pokemon Go really got me. I traded my Mew, Celebi, and Jirachi over to home. Now they're stuck.
Also, if you got Victini and transfered it before taking a picture of victini for the quest in Pokemon Go you can't finish the quest.
Should have keepted, until go shut downs. Hope that doesn't happen

Mythical events back in the day were so badly advertised. I didn't start playing until gen 3 but I never saw a single ad for any event. Not even the jirachi for Colosseum or the manaphy for pokemon ranger. You'd think it would have been an ad during Pokemon episodes or something. It wasn't until Gen 5 that events were more well known.
Sure, if you lived close enough to a major city. My parents weren't willing(/able) to drive me 3+ hours each way to get one.
It's upsetting to me that Genesect was only available shiny in GO. I love pokemon, but I'm not much of a GO player, and nowhere near strong enough to do raids on my own. I feel like that being the only way to get it isn't as inclusive as they thought it was.
I believe it was released in Japan as a shiny for a while, with the release of the Mega Mewtwo movie

The Crown Tundra could have been a great opportunity to have all the Mythical Pokemon available in one place. They already had all the Legendaries in Dynamax Adventures, why couldn’t they do that with all the Mythicals too?
It would be really cool for me because the events from sm usum down i didn't get. But for the people who did get the events and traded it to swsh might be annoyed. But idk because I didn't get the events soooooooooo
If every mythical pokemon was normally obtainable in the game, what would be the point of being mythical? Keldeo is already worthless from a collection standpoint (unless someone really cares about the ID#) just because they made him easily obtainable within the game.
@@Gatchu137 What developers could have done is just make the mythicals way harder to catch. Like even if all mythicals were obtainable in game they could make the mythicals at a 0.0001% catch rate and only hidden in the grass. Like an encounter rate of 0.0003% would make them extremely hard to find in game and would keep them legendary. Maybe they can only show up after you do every single quest imaginable in game + the pokedex+ every quest in the expansion + that pokedex+ 4/5 of the national pokédex completed. Put random puzzles all over the map that all have to be completed by the end of the game. Then at least you can feel accomplished.

Being locked behind a secret task that's pretty difficult to accomplish? That was Spiritomb in Gen 4.
Having a 1% catch rate? I think a few legendaries are already about that hard anyway, and roaming legendaries appearing in grass have been a thing for over a decade.
There are regular pokemon with less than a 3% encounter rate in most games. I think if you want the Gen 7 monkeys in SwSh, they're like a 5% encounter rate in grass only, and that takes like 20 minutes. Feebas and Munchlax were limited to specific tiles back in Platinum, but people still got them.
You could make it so that Victini is only obtainable as a wild encounter after completing the SwSh pokedex, can only be found in the grass as a 1% encounter rate, with a 1% catch rate, and the ability to run away. Completing the pokedex aside, that would MAYBE be like 2-3 hours of grinding.
There is absolutely nothing that Gamefreak could do to make the mythicals obtainable in game, without compromising their rarity. Grinding for 3 hours doesn't hold a candle to waiting 6 years for a limited time event.
Edit: I don't know why you went back and edited everything from "1% encounter rate" to ".000001% encounter rate".
I think they should’ve put in diancie, volcanion, jirachi, maybe marshadow, Victini and darkrai
Hi Austin, I was rewatching this video on Christmas and the ironic thing is that with the recent Zarude email distribution, I still have a completed Living Pokedex organized on Home. There were a few pitfalls caused by Pokemon Home such as not paying attention to which box I sent trades from, but after an extra hour of work I have my Living Pokedex. It has been a pain over the years since the Box was a thing with the 3ds. I religiously did all the months for the 20th anniversary just to make sure I did it. I am eager to see what is planned for the 25th Anniversary. Thank you for being awesome and for all your Pokemon videos.
I thought this vid was going to be about how lame the events have been. For a Pokémon that’s so special I feel like going into a GameStop for it is pretty underwhelming

Going to GameStop for me at least felt somewhat rewarding especially getting that cool scratch off card and getting extras for my friends. I prefer it over the new method of getting it through Home
The Sinnoh mythical events were my favorite. At the very least, you were clued into their existence and they weren’t treated as if they never existed.
I mean, yeah but then there were those event items which never got released in NA... for some reason.
Yeah, the Sinnoh Events were awesome ^^ (I missed them, but I got myself an Action Replay to trigger the Events ^^'')
And you needed to catch them it wasn’t just handed to you. The events themselfs have been boring sense gen 6. The only cool things they did with mythical was Deoxys in oras and Keldeo and zeraora in swsh
@@Feurigel1806 That’s the way I had to get them in Pearl, but Arceus wasn’t coded in properly, so it had a bug that crashed your game in specific instances. I got the legit events for Darkrai and Shaymin in Platinum, though.
The idea was so cool, but they couldn't implement it correctly because of few events and limited internet access (WEP access was very different then). They could do it much better this gen and it would be absolutely amazing. I hope they don't cheap out in the DPPt remakes.

I really liked the Shiny Zeraora event by completing a challenge of the 1 million trainer Zeraora event it made you work for Shiny Zeraora and earn it. Please have more events like this in the future.

@ John Plays I'm glad you bring up the issue of certain stores not being in certain countries, like my country doesn't have any of those stores so I can never get those codes and it annoys me endlessly as well as that my country doesn't support pokemon home for my phone meaning that every distribution via that I cant get, I even checked with some people in Korea and they cant get pokemon home on their phones either. This was highly frustrating when I wanted to get the shiny zeraora that fought in the raids to reach the 1 mil challenge and then couldn't even get my prize. These are really big issues that Nintendo needs to address.
When I was a child, red and blue era, my local mall had a Nintendo sponsored Pokémon battle tournament. Everyone who participated got a legit mew with a certificate of authenticity put onto your game cartridge.

Instead of doing Game/GameStop/whatever distributions they should start doing distributions over Pokemon Home. It is a free app available to everyone who own a smart phone and switch (let’s face it, most people have a smart phone and every Pokemon fan has a switch), easy to use, very accessible, and most importantly available worldwide. It doesn’t matter if you’re from Norway, Japan or even the Sahara Desert, as long as you have a switch account and the app you can get the mythicals.
The only thing that I can see stopping them is the worry that people will farm them, get hundreds but let’s be honest- with the switch if you go to every shop in your town that offers the event (for me there is about 10-12 Game stores) you can get tons of the mythicals easier, since you don’t need to spend hours making and syncing several email accounts.
@@PansyPops they should do events by making mythicals a rare chance in pokemon go raids and after defeat you get a code for it in the games, or you can transfer through home.

Most people will argue that there is a big paywall there, since most people (myself included) don’t have any gyms within walking distance of their house, and don’t have active players in their area. Though using raids would be a good idea, there would be some backlash from the community because people will have to:
1) wait for a raid to appear.
2) wait for the egg to hatch.
3) beat the raid.
4) be lucky enough to get the code.
Assuming it’s a 1/100 chance to actually get the chance to get a mythical, it would take 100 days (statistically) for free to play players to get 1 mythical, or about 3.65 per year (assuming they do 1 raid daily). The richest players and people who play for a living (imagine Mystic7, UnlistedLeaf, maybe aDrive) will be able to get code, after code ,after code, while everyone who don’t have active players in their area will struggle to beat the raids, and even access a single raid. Utilising the existing Pokemon Go raid system is a brilliant idea, there are several issues for the casual PoGo players.
I’m still salty that my Darkrai I took from Y is just sitting in Pokémon Home. I would absolutely love to take him for a stroll around the Isle or Armor and Crown Tundra. Great points as always, I do hope the 25th anniversary has something special in store.

Also to get Infinite Mews, you use Pokemon Red/Blue on Virtual Console and do the Nugget Bridge Glitch and Transfer the ones you catch to Pokemon Bank.
This is a problem that really affected me cause I spent hundreds of hours trying to get every single pokemon in the dex for the shiny charm without the use of me trading to myself. I got about 90% of the way there but there simply was too many mythicals that I couldnt obtain

I remember that back in the 1990's I went to Toys R Us were they did a special promo where they traded you Mew into your game.
I agree with you so much. I remember all these different promotions. And between gens I tended to lose interest and sell my games. So I lost those Mythicals. But now with Sword and Shield on the Switch, and GO and HOME , I have gotten more interested in it again. So much so that I'm trying to make a living dex for the first time since R/B/Y. And looking at it, I am going to be missing so many of these Mythicals. So heres to hope for the anniversary next year. On a side note, your Majora's Mask is freaking me out because when you do those quick cuts the eyes change and I SWEAR its is looking at me and blinking.

In Cyprus is way difficult to get this kind of events. Darkrai, Arceus, Shaymin, Mellotetta, Genesect, Hoopa, Volcanion, Diancie, Marshadow are the only ones we can never get legitimately. At least we managed to get Zeraora, a shiny one too

Genesect is arguably one of my favorites and I was lucky enough that someone in a FB group I'm in gave me a SHINY Genesect from GO from the raids. All he wanted was my regular Groudon. Low-key still feel like I ripped him off even tho it's what he wanted. So I threw a masterball on the groudon as well. This community can be truly incredible. It's truly a shame how hard some of the mythical are to acquire tho

I think that the raid system was super good. What would be cool is like what we did with spiritomb and we had to do a certain amount of things. Like, rematch a gym leader and it shows up in your mystery gifts

I remember the McDonalds Hoopa giveaway being a fiasco. I went into one of the McDonalds and the employees had no idea what I was talking about and kept thinking I wanted the physical Hoopa toy. I waited around and finally realized I connected to the McDonalds WiFi and then got on the browser and got past the login prompt, then go back to the game and use Mystery Gift. The Employees and even the Manager had no idea what I was talking about and neither McDonalds or The Pokemon Company had any "specific" instructions on how to do it on their event sites. I managed to get my Hoopa but I bet a lot of other people didn't, especially kids.
I think I was pretty young at the time. Me and my 2 brothers had to talk our mom into going to mcdonalds during the event period. We just sat inside waiting for the crummy internet to connect and eventually we got hoopa. Only took us 20 minutes lol
Fun fact, you were able to get the Hoopa without even going to McDonald’s. If you had a hotspot or an android phone you could just name your hotspot to “Free McDonald’s wifi,” or whatever McDonald’s wifi was named, and set the security to no password and connect your 3DS to it and the game would think you were at McDonald’s. That’s how I got my Hoopa lol

Though this does bring up an unrelated concern of mine. If Pokemon Bank eventually closes down, are all the pokemon before gen 8 permanently locked in their game with no way of transfer?
You're 100% speaking the truth, I come from the Caribbean in which I have Pokémon S&S and its very difficult to have a mythical Pokémon from where I come from. In addition to trying to get a fully evolve Pokemon by trading with a friend (which I don't have) I have to look up your channel and other sources in order to get like Zarude the mythical Pokémon. And the other thing is that if your trying to complete your pokedex by catching every single Pokémon, youll find yourself short by not getting a mythical Pokémon which totally sucks.
Filling out my living dex, just missing about 11 pokemon so I'm close and waiting for these mythical event pokemon. I bought the pokeball plus, I got pokemon crystal and oras. I am so close. I really do hope they make em available legitimately. Great video thanks Austin.

Grew up playing most mainstream pokemon games from Gen 3-Now and one of the best memories as a kid was my brother gifting me an army of Darkrais and Arceus (Arcei?) using an action replay. Darkrai is hands down my top three favorite pokemon in terms of design, and the fact that I can't obtain them and others like them (deoxys is another favorite of mine) anymore unless I grind pokemon go or use an action replay glitch is disappointing. The news of Gen 4 remakes gives me some hope that we'll all be able to get these mythical pokes soon!
I remember trying to get a Genesect back in gen 5, but since I was small I didn't know it was a limited time event. I went sad that day, but I finally got one back in 2016 :D
I was the same with volcanion, Diancie and hoopa, I stopped playing x and y due to Pokédex completion, so when I finally needed them for home took ages for me to find them!!!

Another thing I noticed: In Pokemon GO, the Mystery Box now activates when you send Pokemon to Home as well as Let's Go meaning every 3 days you can send a random Pokemon to Home in order to activate the Mystery Box to start spawning Meltan. Handy for me as I no longer own a copy of Let's Go.

But the thing is that event happened so late no wonder I've missed it. And at that time I could also never experience how it would play like.
I think the volcanion event was from the pokemon trainer club news letter that gave you a code i miss that one as well its the only mythical im missing atm
With having Pokemon Home finally being the cloud service we need, they should run tough weekly challenges in the current games to get rare Pokemon. This would keep giving us weekly things to do in Sword/Shield and keep those games giving us more.
I had on of those Jirachi Colosseum Disc as a little kid(plus that weird Gamecube to GBV cable). Every day I would get 6 new Jirachis by starting a new game in ruby, then trading the Jirachi over to my Sapphire, and then doing that Pal-Park thing to get the 6 Jirachis into my Diamond. I remember I would just put those Jirachis onto the GCS and trading them away for random pokemon that I didn't have in my pokemon dex.

Zarude is one of the mythic Pokemon that I just don't care if I have it ir not. He looks weird, like a monkey Zeraora.

Hey Austin, I live in Latin America where (as you said) we mostly don't have GameStop, GAME, or EB Games. However, the mythical and legendary events were available to us through other retailers, usually different ones by country.
Darkrai is one of my favorite pokemon of all time. I had both of the event versions from the diamond/pearl/platinum days. (The one you had to catch and the one in a cherish ball for the movie). Fast forward 5-6 years, I never thought I would truly get invested into pokemon again so I reset my game to replay it and lost all my mythicals including Celebi, Mew, Arceus, and I'm sure more that I can't remember. Really is my own fault, but I'm pretty disappointed I did and I wish I was able to catch them again.

Before Sword and Shield the last mainline game I owned was SoulSilver. And back then I remember having the exact ssme issues with the mythical event pokemons that I wanted but missed bc I wasnt living in the right country or I couldnt figure out the DS wi-fi settings or didnt have any friends to trade with, etc.
But honestly.... It's been so much fun to hunt down mythicals in Generation 8. Because there are so many ways to do so nowadays😃
I have legit event pokemon that go back as far as fireread and leafgreen. Like, if you have HOME and Nintendo Online you are all set. People dupe their pokemon and give them away for free on their TH-cam and Twitch streams in exchange for likes and subs. Just punch the code theyre giving you and theyll trade you copies of legit event pokes. Or if you are looking for a specific mythical or event mon you can find Reddit forums and follow Twitter hashtags were you'll find what you want if you look hard enough. It's honestly been so much fun it's all I do now on Pokemon :)
Also if you dont care about legit mons you can always use a bot on Discord that generates any pokemon you want and trades it to your game. Its soooooo simple and you can customize every aspect of that pokemon.

I remember almost 15 years ago going to the Nintendo Store in Rockefeller Center to get pokemon distributions. 4 years ago when they did the mythical distribution I made sure to go to gamestop every month to get the scratch off cards, but I didnt realize they had expiration dates and when I got around to trying to put all the codes in only about half of them still worked, I was so bummed. What was the point of making those codes expire?
