starter generator rebuild part 1

How did you determine the Field Coils were bad? I have never seen one open or short in over 50 years. It's usually the armature or brushes. Curious what caused yours to fail?

Omg these are a nightmare. Ive been having an issue with generating more than 13.5v give or take. My boss suspects its the pole shoes?? Im new so its all greek
