Yeah! I’m sure you’d appreciate it in a different way now. I know I went on some school trips as a kid I didn’t appreciate and now I’d love to go back to revisit some.

Back in the 80s n 90s sentosa is one of the main tourist attraction along with maybe orchard road, zoo, birdparks. Now theres MBS, RWS, GBB, jewel etc... I missed the old marina bay alot, the transformed it to MBS.. before 2010 it used to b me n my gf fave hangout place...theres like arcade, hawker centres, nice sea view etc..memories 😢 Happy weekend guyz

The last time I was at Fort Siloso was back in the mid 90s. Oh if you haven't checked them out yet, do visit the Ramadan Bazaars at Geylang Serai and Kampong (Kg) Glam (vicinity of Sultan Mosque). The Kg Glam bazaar will run until 16 April and the grand one (with street lighting and all) at Geylang Serai will last until the eve of Hari Raya on 21 April. Cheers, Suhaimy

Thank you for a fantastic video. Really enjoyed the tour of Fort Siloso. A few years ago we stayed on Sentosa at the Rasa (we are Australian) and from that really delved into the back history of the island. Last month we returned to Singapore and managed a tour of Fort Canning and the park, which was both very beautiful and very sad. We purchased the book 'To Japan to Lay a Ghost' (Peter S.Rhodes, 1998) and it's difficult to imagine what Singapore endured during the occupation. I look forward to chasing up the interview with your grandfather.
That sounds like a like a lovely trip. Fort canning is also so lovely. Jonty’s Grandpa shared a very moving story. So strange to think it wasn’t so long ago and how far things have come and what might have been.
Singapore has been a victim of WW2 and not many talk about it, one of the reasons for it's drive today. It's nice seeing someone cover the history and heritage of this island nation.
Hello there. My wife & I have just followed your entertaining, informative advice and visited Fort Siloso. It was a fantastic day and cheap (free) for Singapore. It takes hardly any time to walk over either 😂 we also took the bus back home as the cue for the monorail was a 30 min wait. But the bus came straight away and was super fast too.
Fort Siloso is one of our must sees. Love it for the history and with Fort Connaught not publically open bar special occasions its the only spot we can easily visit where her grandfather probably went during the war
Sentosa recently released a certain amount of private tours to Fort Connaught and they sold out so fast I didn't manage to get a ticket. Hopefully they will release more tours.
@@WONDERLUSTworld Yes, I saw those specials…if we ever came out when those trips were on Id try to get one, we know Sarah’s grandfather was stationed at Fort Connaught before the battle for Singapore when his regiment (Cambridgeshires) went to Simes Road area and so as ancillary troops would have be used to move things round so he likely went to Siloso at some point although he isnt around to ask sadly. So a Fort Connaught ticket would be a big thing.
@@WONDERLUSTworld im a war junkie and also very fascinated by SG history... and so much stories abt WWII... the stories that my grandma told me..etc Kranji War Memorial has to be in the list of places to visit.. im glad i did.. the architecture, the large, peaceful surroundings. A visit will definitely yield many sobering insights about the war and lead to a deeper appreciation. Its on a hill, slopes down and you get a nice view., oh when i was there, the sun was setting, light breeze... it was just stunning... like a movie scene.. so moving..
@@WONDERLUSTworld adding on 2 more to the list... 1) Former Ford Factory->the place where the British surrendered to the Japanese in 1942. 2) Reflections at Bukit Chandu ->some of the fiercest fighting during World War II was there... the bravery of the Malay regiment in their defence of Singapore..

Loved this video! 🤩 Sentosa (and the Rasa Sentosa resort) was where i spent a lot of my childhood so it was great to see some of the scenery again. Living in France at the moment but hoping to come back to Singapore very soon, either to live or at least on holiday. Watching your videos in the meantime makes me really happy! 😉✨

My mom who lived to 94 had seen British POW shot on the march to Changi..it left her really traumatized. At the age of 11 she worked as an office girl in a Japanese military headquarter. When the British came back she remembered given combat rations from the returning Johhnies (thats what she called the Brits). But for a really sobering experience visit the Death Railway at Kanchanburi, Thailand. Aside from the Railway there is a great national park there too.

Ya I know right🤭👍so if I go out with my friends, we’ll alway order a few dishes e.g. 4 people so order 4 dishes….but we’ll normally share…meaning each dish spilt into quarters….then each of us can enjoy tasting 4 different dishes n yet wun explode our tummy 😂🤭😅👍
I have told this before, we got stuck on the monorail at Fort Siloso on our first trip together to Singapore in 1983 , meters up high for 3 hours in the hot sun, the attractions were not as good as they are today , just a bunker with some tables and photos- Phill & Peg
Three hours on the monorail would have been a bit too warm!! I’m not sure when Fort Siloso was updated, but a few people have commented that it is very different to previous versions of the museum!
used to stay at the civil service bungalows when I was a 6-7 year old. Back then main attractions were just the musical fountain, the wax museum and the beaches

Didn’t like visiting Fort Siloso much as a child during school trips there but as an adult, I’ve looked at it through new eyes and have grown to love and appreciate SG’s colonial history. By the way, Fort Siloso , at its Northwest tip faces Fort Pasir Panjang at Labrador Park which has two gun emplacements and tunnel complexes as well (though not as extensive) It was twinned with Fort Siloso as a defence site to Keppel Harbour. There is this local tale about a “secret tunnel” running under the water that linked Fort Siloso and Fort Pasir Panjang. This video at the 10:24 mark debunked the myth of the secret tunnel linking the 2 forts though. th-cam.com/video/LnbY845chnQ/w-d-xo.html But I’ve still always imagined how interesting and mysterious it would still be if the tunnel really existed!

This place give me ptsd, literally. Went on a school field trip here in primary school, the live action experience fked me up. Now,Whenever they do the total defense siren i get tense/shocked n freeze. Ps : edited to erase details.
I’m so sorry to hear this experience, not a nice thing to happen at all. Sounds like a pretty scary school trip to be honest. It’s nothing like that now I hope, they do have sounds effects about the Fort still.

That Food Republic in Vivocity is one of our favourites too. Normally use the Boardwalk as well. Last time we were over there were Minions everywhere
