    Deacon starts out as such a paranoid lunatic that even though he does runs for both Tucker and Copeland, they don’t know where he lives. They have their suspicions (Cope specifically mentions the watchtower) but Deacon brushes it off every time. He won’t even talk about Boozer’s injury despite the fact that they would probably help.
    It’s only after Boozer is forced to settle down in a camp and has that anchor, that now Deacon has an anchor through him and both of them start to actually open up to other people and let themselves FEEL things.

  • @AceRevero

    Sam Witwer said in a AMA that the game is a "slow burn". After playing and beating the game, yeah I can see that. The game picks up as soon as you get to lost lake camp, then really pushes the story with the Southern region. I honestly prefer day's gone gameplay mechanics than story.
    Building up a bike and Horde fighting are my favorites in Day's gone. Building up a bike feels good, I wish more games had bike building (or just more biker games) and the Horde mechanics/fighting is amazing, managing resources on the fly and trying not to box yourself in, makes horde fighting the key selling point for me.

    One thing that goes super underappreciated is how Days Gone actually explains how everything went south.
    Most zombie media tends to avoid explaining that part.

      Yes, and the best part is that explains everything in the same game. No need to wait for a sequel to actually know how the virus spread across the regions and who was responsible for it's creation.

    I like that Deacon is like absurdly amount of crazy and it's only been 2 years since the outbreak. Even characters in the Last of Us who have been in that nightmare world for 20+ years aren't that crazy. Though but I can't help but always root for Deacon the crazy man and The Booze Man.
    Also never forget Deacon wears his backwards baseball hat to his wedding. They show him in the game take off the hat before so it was possible in the tech. They just chose to have him wear a backwards baseball cap to his own wedding.

      his entire unit was killed in Afghanistan he came back to get a break from that and reconnect with human beings by joining a motorcycle club which then mostly died then his wife died while the apocalypse was happening and now he spends all of his time alone probably in his eyes murdering people so I wouldn't say that it's that far of a stretch that he's gone completely insane in two years. I don't think that you should really use the last of us as your bar for realism. In reality it takes a lot less than any of that to drive a person completely insane. PTSD is a hell of a drug.

    • @TheBravery767
      @TheBravery767 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I dont really see how "Deacon is like absurdly amount of crazy" if the characteristics of his insanity are just; him talking to himself, being curt or using humor to try to bring brevity to a dark situation. These are traits you see in average everyday people. Considering everything that's happened to him his tolerance to trauma is completely inhuman, the only suspension of disbelief there could be is that he had experience's in the military from a young age but even then its pushing it.

    Another game that features a complete psychopath is Henry from Kingdom Come deliverance. The game encourages you to be a chaotic neutral asshole who is only good on the surface and is a silver tounge opportunist. IF the player fools themselves into thinking that you could be a legit good person then the game punishes them in several ways by either cutting quests early, cutting scenes out like it's incomplete, or just gives you no rewards. With the way Henry is it almost feels like you're playing a true blue sociopath.

    For a sony exclusive, this game had a very small budget. Its actually surprising we got what we did out of their budget compared to other exclusives. I gave this game a solid 8.5/9. Deacon being a character that talks to himself rather than talking to the player is fantastic because he's all alone in the apocalypse 24/7. Still super pissed at sony for not approving the 2nd game which left us with a big cliffhanger. Also, I dont think pat's ADHD is letting him actually pay attention to the story and deacon. Its a good story and deacon is a great character that really grows on you the more you play it. And the reason they arent called zombies is because they arent zombies, they're humans who got infected but are very much still alive as humans on the inside and still keep some of their human traits.

    • @infernaldisdain8051
      @infernaldisdain8051 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      But 1. Pat is still early into the story by his own admission and 2. Even if they aren’t Zombies, that’s how the game was marketed and that may be spoilers. I don’t know. I plan to play this game after getting a good PC because of this conversation.

    • @GinjerFour
      @GinjerFour 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@infernaldisdain8051 Yeah pat is still very early in the game which is kinda slow, i'll give you that, but it seems that he's not grasping anything that's going on in all of his negative remarks. I feel like he's following his chat (who clearly never touched the game) by shitting on it because of an employee of the company who got fired because he was a douche and anything negative he has to say about the game, the chat just instantly agrees with him and calls it a shitty game despite them never having any clue whats going on or whats gonna happen in the story. Pat is notorious for having bad taste in video games and game mechanics and now he's creating an army with his viewers that are scarier than the freakers because they're all becoming mini pats.

    • @infernaldisdain8051
      @infernaldisdain8051 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GinjerFour ...Most of the things he says negative about the game in this video at least, are about the bugs and how bad playing it on launch might be. He says one bad thing about the dev, but he specifically says that it's one person he had a problem with. He says that one chunk of the game might have been a repurposed tutorial, and he gives examples to explain his point and why it feels odd to play through that section. He does say something about the story that he was wrong about, but when Doc calls him out and explains that he's wrong, he concedes and allows him to take the reigns of the conversation.
      The conversation started because he admitted that he was wrong for writing off the game at first glance (like many others did) and most of it is praising the game in Pat's view, and he says that he enjoys the game, partially for the odd quirks that it has, such as Deacon being crazy, and how odd everything is. Doc does re-contextualize a lot for him as someone who has played the game to completion, but a good portion is stuff someone playing for the first time would not know early on.
      I also think you underestimate how often Pat's chat think he's being crazy, or too critical of a thing. You even point out that he is notorious for his bad takes, and a good portion of the people who disagree with him, watch him. I won't say that some aren't easily influenced, (because he is likely to have some based on purely how many people watch him) but saying that they are Zombies or Sheep is reductive at best.

    • @GinjerFour
      @GinjerFour 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@infernaldisdain8051 I agree with you. Im saying he was stating some misunderstood flaws until the guest had to correct him on those things. Pat likes to jump the gun on everything. And his chat are some of the weirdest one sided people i've ever seen. Anything that pat says with a serious tone about a game is taken seriously by atleast 80% of his audience. He was talking bad about the game before he started it and the chat were just shitting on the game but as soon as he stated that he actually likes it after playing on his own time, the chat quickly changes their mind and agrees. That was my point.

    • @infernaldisdain8051
      @infernaldisdain8051 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GinjerFour Personally I have never seen that happen. I would say that either the chat on CSB is being weird, or maybe the people who disagreed with him about how bad it was didn't want to come out because they were afraid of being booed or something. I don't watch CSB live so I wouldn't know. But unless there were the same people suddenly flip flopping on their opinions (and even then I could see someone agreeing that it sucks until he said he liked it, because they hadn't played it and just didn't like the trailers and then feeling stupid so they agree with him fast out of embarrassment) I wouldn't go for chat being sheep on this matter.
      The only times I've seen Pat with his chat is his personal channel and from what I saw at least they were quick to jump on him for "bad" opinions, but maybe those were the exceptions to the rule.

    Days Gone was one of those games that i figured was crap, but finally got around to trying years later when it was on super sale and i was bored. then i played it and, despite its flaws, still really enjoyed it, and felt bad about not buying it full price.
    then, more recently, that interview came out where the ex-dev is like "yeah, if people dont support a game _at launch,_ it doesnt matter how well it does over time. the corporate suits think that means it wont succeed, and _wont_ greenlight a sequel."
    he's super right. i _know_ he's right. that doesnt mean you should just buy every game at launch, hoping its amazing. but _not_ buying games is super damaging. Sony was _really_ serious about Days Gone. it was like their headlining game for a while there. and when it didnt _instantly_ perform, they dropped it like a bad habit.
    the problem speaks more to corporate mentality, than it does to audience purchasing habits. but we're still stuck in that grey area where we really cant know if a game is reeeeally worth it...but if you dont bite the bullet sometimes, really good games will get thrown under the bus. its super frustrating. especially since i REALLY want to know where Days Gone was going with its cliffhanger.

    • @kyrridas1573
      @kyrridas1573 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      and while im here, my biggest take-away from Days Gone was how long a realistic zombie-war would take...but also how awesome of a game it could be.
      as a video game protagonist, Deacon is a goddamn superman and by the end of the game, you're still gonna have a hard time fighting some of the 1000+ hordes. and after you do, its gonna take a while to restock your supplies and ammo and stuff before you can go hunting the next. so when the game puts into perspective the fact that there are _millions_ of them that have taken over the major metro areas...like, holy hell...even an army of psycho-hunters like Deacon that could kill thousands per day, would still be fighting endlessly for _YEARS_ just to liberate maybe one state.
      it's why i thought the military angle was so interesting, and had a lot of potential. the zombie-war might actually happen. its what the sequel(s) could have been...until the devs went and decided "well OBVIOUSLY the religious guy has to be insane, and the correct answer is burn everything." **sigh**

      There're bandit camps that can go south if you start shooting if a horde is near by. On buggy, weird design choices, one of my favorite is in GTA5 Online. You pop open your phone to call your mechanic and deliver your car. So I do that and then go stare at a wall. Because the car isn't allowed to spawn on screen. There's no cool driving in from off screen animation, it just teleports into the world. So I face 180 degrees away from where I want my car to be.

    Radio Free Orogon isn't 'crazy complete nonsense'
    it's message is pretty fucking consistent. "Government Bad, Prepping Good. Guns Good. I knew all this was going to happen and none of you listened to me. I was right all along!"
    If you somehow failed to catch that in the first two or three broadcasts, then I have to wonder if you were even paying attention.
    Edit: Oh, and the screaming on his bike isn't an intended part of Deek's 'crazy guy' character, because he's obviously not intended to do that if he isn't moving.
    If you get off your bike, he says it at a much more reasonable tone, and it's not that crazy of a thing to say anyway.
    He's pointing out that for all of Copeland's whining about the government, the government has (as far as anybody knows) been dead for two years. Complaining about the government raising gas prices doesn't matter when money is worthless and you have to scavenge for gas.
    Deek is saying that Cope should shut the fuck up about how evil the government was and do something useful instead.

      In the game, when you kill zombies, you collect their ears almost automatically. You can trade those ears in, at the camp of your choice, for Trust (unlocks more things to buy at that camp) and Credits (currency to buy things at that camp). Storywise, this is the camp offering a bounty on zombie ears, since this means you killed (presumably nearby) zombies, which makes the camp safer.
      Killing humans may or may not make the camp safer, depending on who it was that you killed. That's why they don't directly offer a bounty on human ears.
      There are bandits and thugs and such who cause problems for the camps, and the camps will often give you missions for "these guys shot at our people, go kill them for trust and credits." But that's based on - these particular individuals are a threat to us, so take them out.
