You obviously are really skilled with video production. But why the heavy emphasis on using presets? Using presets without understanding the process doesn't create better content creators in the end, it just makes them skip the learning process. Your LUTS look incredible, but I wish there was more emphasis put on learning the craft. I think this is why my favourite videos from creators like you are the in depth tutorials. I love improving my skills and learning from pros. I feel like there's a ton of stuff we could learn from you, but a LUT doesn't teach skills. *leaves harsh comment, buys LUTS anyway, turns out they're actually great, wishes you had a utility pack for the R5.
Came to learn to color grade but was told to buy luts. Matti is probably one of the most frustrating TH-camrs, but I can’t stop watching his videos, so clean, and the clickbait works haha, cheers to an excellent TH-camr that’s both hard to watch and entertaining and likeable all in one
Gosh this channel....I remember when i started out two years ago and was trying to figure out which gear to get for my TH-cam channel. Almost every search I did had a Matti Haapoja video in the results. So I watched one video, then two, then ten etc...eventually i just decided to get an iPhone X, lav mic, tripod and a small cheap light off AliExpress.. This Matti Haapoja channel taught me so many tricks, do's, dont's, how to setup. I cant imagine how much more time i would have wasted trying to figure things out if I didn't find this channel. Ever since then I've been watching your video "almost" all the time if and when i come across any. Fast forward two years, the channel I started did so well that i decided to start this one to teach the tricks/lessons I picked up. Keep up the great work Matti. May the good lord bless your handwork and grant you the best of heaven. You rock! Much Love from Ghana🥰🥰
Matti! One of the first things i learned when i started piloting drones: when you return home and drone is close to you - turn your drone back to you (not camera facing you). Then your left and right are drones left and right ;) and you will avoid crashes like that one. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
I'm a bit color blind so this is honestly the scariest/most stressful part of the process for me - like to the point that I never even mess with it... so THANK YOU! This was legitimately helpful
Hey big dawg. Just watched this video and thought to share it with you. There is a scope that will show us what color our image is made up of. This whole link may be helpful, but I think around 6:00min will be super helpful! th-cam.com/video/tMtM4fyGH70/w-d-xo.html
Man these basics are what I started watching you and Pete for. Learning from the pros is so helpful. You are a natural teacher. Would love more content like this! Also your secrets on how how you made that window title sequence in After Effects (im guessing XD)
Just purchased the lots tonight and have no idea what I'm doing but ill figure it out in the morning lol. Happy to spend my money with you. The total value learned from your channel in general was worth the cost 10 times over. Keep going bro.
You always make every video so fun to watch Matti! I hate boring people just sitting there and sound like they never have slept. And do you think Log is worth it on iPhone in filmic pro?
Thank you! Make a video on how you balance work and family, I also have two babies and know it’s really hard to stay creative. Appreciate your content even more now
Man, I came for the lesson, but that opening. Haha showing family + fails (and a little charisma) is the holy grail… next level promo. Imma go check yo luts!
Thank you for mentioning that you are going to do Color grading for skin tones. Because hard to achieve a neutral vibrant look for light or dark skin tones. If find that when I use a LUT it makes my skin look too saturated. I can’t wait to see the video and this was dope.👍
I'm a begginer so bit confused about the process! 1) So we just add the conversion LUT, then the style LUT, then colour correct? 2) When I add the conversion LUT do I need to play around with the shadows/blacks/whites/contrast/saturation etc still or no? Helpful vid though thank you!!
I crashed my drone the EXACT same way 😂 Tried flying through the roof window (small gap) and forgot the bottom sensors would kick in… sad times. But hey! Great to see you back on the tutorials Matti, definitely would love to see a lot more useful content like this!
what i didn't know was how those layers in color grade are supposed to be. I've always thought the color correction (lut) is supposed to be on the bottom then color grade is on top. that's soooo good to knw.
ever since making the transition to resolve, I've really enjoyed the manual grading process, and I think it's something I'd want to do professionally. It really makes a huge difference.
Matti thank you so much for this video. It has already saved me a TON of time and I just shot a commercial for a local business today and I'm editing and it's making things so much easier and quicker. Thank you for the quality and helpful content!!!!
@@mattih matt since you replied, I want to ask something quick, many users like me, use entry level camera, which doesn't have any LOG settings, so can you make a video on how to color grade in FCP, using FCP tools, that would be a great help, big fan from India, hope to see you one day ❤️.

This is great - I've been editing for a number of years and I still learn so much from you. Sometimes it's just those little tweaks that make such a big difference in the overall look. But one thing - do you feel that if people are only using LUTS, they're missing out on how to learn to color? I'm not sure how I feel about that. Sorta like, I drive a stick shift. When I go to a car wash and they find out my car's a manual, they run away in all directions. lol
I agree. LUTs can be time savers but they don't work for every situation and all footage (especially camera systems and RAW vs mp4). Purchased LUTs can be good starting points but should be used to create more customized LUTs for your particular footage and work flow. I use Leeming LUTs but have to modify to to get to a proper correction place. I've tried other LUTs too but again they are not one-size-fits-all tools. And truly learning and understanding color correction, grading, reading scopes, etc. is the best way to get the most out of it. These videos are made to sell his product. I get it and don't fault him and others for it but this isn't a "how to color grade" video. It's a "buy my product and I'll show you how to use it" video.
I'm so happy you are doing these videos about colourgrading and LUTs because recently I decided to try to learn how to make videos myself and I'm learning a lot from you. Also, I really like your LUTs 🙂
Man I need to get these! The conversion Luts easies up the workflow so much! I'm partly colorblind also so these are going to save my color game so much !! 🤘🏼
Please advise on how this works with iPhone footage since iPhones don't have an s-log option!

Well, Hello from İstanbul. I was loving your teal look. Now I am so happy that they are all ınstalled on my premiere pro. Thnx. As a woman content creator that's like a gold coin. Keep up the good work.
I am so bad at color correcting/grading and I think it’s because I’m so excited to see what the footage will look like that I rush it too much. Gotta slow down and think critically rather than “wonder what this will look like”
Hope this helps your workflow and enjoy the new CINE SONY LUTS 🙌🏻- mattihaapoja.com/products/cine-sony-luts
This video is very helpful
HAHAHAHAHA! Best intro EVER! :D
Super helpful except for one thing I edit on da Vinci so I have no idea how you do that stuff 😫

@MIND they're not that expensive, and a good lut isn't that easy to create, not as easy as spending 15 bucks hahah

The drone. That was crazy. 😅

I no longer feel bad about my drone flying skills. LOL That intro had me on the floor and feeling better, thank you.
Who else purchased the LUTs before the video ended? Great stuff Matti.
For the longest I was fighting to use luts. I Do use them now for my slog footage.

Finally, something about color grading ! 😍
Yes please! Colour grading takes me forever!
THE START 🥺
I can clearly see the influence of Niklas Christl everywhere between the existing filmmaking youtube channels.
