Episode 92:
Mark, Don and Mel's third album, which was released just 10 months after their debut, cemented Grand Funk Railroad among the top acts in the world. Capitalizing on the success of their second release, Grand Funk, Closer To Home contained eight tunes penned by Mark Farner, and continued the formula of hard-edged, funky Rock. "Aimless Lady" was the B-side of the "I'm Your Captain (Closer To Home)" single, and featured what is almost a Jazz/Rock, "Moondance" like A section, and a chugging, rockin' B section.
Veteran GFR listeners will notice the care we took in mixing the drums panned hard left, lead guitar hard right and a hot, growling bass. The re-imagined Eastwood Messenger sufficiently captures lead and rhythm tones, with the aid of a Big Muff fuzz pedal for the solo. The original Messenger model used by Farner included an onboard fuzz switch called the "tone-messer," which proves to be quite difficult to replicate.
OTW is engineered and mixed by Richard Williams @ Plum Tree Recording Studio.
One Take Weekly aims to present a sneak peek inside a studio recording session, each track performed and filmed in one take - imperfections & all. No overdubs, NO AUTOTUNE, and no trick-photography! (Just good mixing...& my nearly inept video editing skills) What you see is what you hear - CE.

Dude... same here! Just hearing someone carry the torch that Mark will one day hand down is great. Chris gives an A number 1 performance on this, especially the solo at break 1. Awesome! He should arrange to back Mark Farner on vocals the next time they're within 369 miles of each other.
Talented. Talented. Talented. Talented! Even the snare sound of Don Brewer.😊 Very well done. Real musician!🎉
Well "Brothers & Sisters" Let's listen to brother Chris do a knockout version of Aimless Lady on his Messenger guitar! Damn, that was awesome brother....
Almost sounded like Mark, himself! 😉 Thank you!
