reminds me of the kind of furniture we used to make for the ships we worked on in the shipyards back in the sixties and seventies, the only difference being i suppose, being the fact that the timbers would have been air dried for at least thirty years before being used [end grain being raised on your outer frame would never have been polished in that state] and there were no cnc machines. keep up the good work.

I don't, maybe because I'm an almost 2000 ELO chess player or you can't open and can't play gammon.
Nothing I've seen on youtube satisfies me, so I'm considering making my own, but I can't find the fabric cotton model to use for gammon because I don't like veneer.

It would be best to put a satin finish on it. Bobby Fisher once complained that a high gloss finish on a chess board caused distraction during a game, and he was right of course.

Супер! Чем дальше в лес - тем сложнее мастеру удивлять свою публику! ( Я думаю, я поправлюсь, сказав, что мастеру становятся интересны не простые заказы, а что-то из ряда вон выходящее! :) 21.23 - лаковое покрытие... при покрытии внутренней части, "шахматы" плохо приклеятся, ибо уменьшается площадь контакта из-за нанесенного слоя лака. Ну, это так тонкости! ;) Радуйте нас и дальше своими работами!

Интересный эффект, шахматное поле как бы парит над основанием, красиво. Заметила что есть некоторые расхождения при стыковке квадратов, это может быть из-за клея, его толщина конечно мала, но таких клеевых слоев как минимум 7, а каждый слой плюс несколько микрон дает, и в совокупности с другими факторами может, вероятнее всего, приводить к таким нестыковкам.
Но в целом очень красиво!
