  • In this video I continue my search for homemade products in Bosnia and Herzegovina, this time with an emphasis on the Herzegovina. Join me as I head to the Herzegovinian town of Čapljina in search of rakija, honey, olive oil, and whatever else I can get my hands on. Along the way, we'll see remnants of the Bosnian war, see some crazy plants and, as always, meet some amazing people.

This adventure showed me if nothing else the diversity of things that Bosnia and Herzegovina has to offer. Herzegovina, from its Mediterranean climate, to its Croatian influence, to its cactus plants, tropical fruits and sun-filled sky, is a completely different world than its compatriot region, Bosnia. Yet, all of it is beautiful in its own way. Enjoy, and thanks for watching!

Just few hundred meters from the place where you bought rakija is an amazing little river Trebižat and couple of restaurants and beach bars. That is my favourite place to spend hot summer days when it gets to 40 degrees outside but the water is, I believe arround 10. I wish they told you to go there.
Herzegovina is actually full of water and waterfalls sourranded by untouched nature.
Anyways, respect to you and I hope you'll be back sometimes in summer! :)

Historical Herzegovina takes a larger area than present-day Bosnia and Herzegovina, extending into Montenegro, Croatia, and Serbia. Over the past centuries, it was perceived as an underdeveloped region where people lived in poor conditions due to limited fertile land. Consequently, Herzegovinians often migrated, leading to a saying: "Herzegovinians populate the entire world but do not displace themselves."

Especially with crime being rampant in cities, people tend to be untrusting of each other. Also, everyone seems to be obsessed with making more money and human connection is secondary. These are the reasons why it's hard to experience this in USA. Even if someone shares a meal with you it will be a snack because everyone's so stiff to share anything without charging you for it.
