For people new to the game, the compendium teams are more straightforward, easier to get your head around. For just plain fun games, I still prefer the compendium teams.
Agreed. Expecially for me, a kitbasher lover, I can make dozen of teams just for fun, following compenium rules for fire groups, I did for Kommandos and Vet Guard but new elite kill teams are full of rules per member, just a page just for a model in some cases. Ok, cool. Thats competitive, I guess. For me its not fun studying a bible of rules just for a team, coz sure ad the sun that will rise tomorrow, I will forget many of them in game.
Glad to see the Scions up there at the highest tier. They are very, VERY heavily underestimated due to being largely overshadowed by the kasrkin's crit gimmick.
My favourite team to play is Chaos marines with a cultist fire team. It's simple and so fun. Using cultists to score Tac ops and then my marines to do all the heavy hitting can be relatively strong.
Awsome if its not an issue would you tell me what you have in yiur list please?how many operatives?and how many cultists?what load outs they all have ?
@@Gauzy_ Yeah, sure dude. My favourite list by far is to have: -Champ w/plasma pistol & power fist -Heavy gunner w/Heavy bolter -Warrior or icon bearer w/bolter For the cultists I use: -Gunner w/flamer -Gunner w/heavy stubber -4 cultists w/ auto guns -2 cultists w/auto pistol & assault weapon For the tac ops I run them as infiltrate, as I find it the most fun. Rush your cultists forward to score any VP you can, whether through tac ops or primary objectives. The reason I use two melee cultists is because they're so good for ensuring I can score the 'implant device' tac op and possibly do a bit of chip damage before they're killed. Run one to the other end of the board to score the 'seize defences' tac op And then another fun one to use is 'stalk target', though it can be hard to pull off. Use your marines to do the heavy damage and don't forget to use their excellent strategic ploys to shoot and fight twice with them. Remember it doesn't affect cultists. And last thing to remember is to use a CP on 'strike from within' to place a cultist almost anywhere on the board before turn 1 to score one of your opponents objectives or to make a play for a tac op.
T'au Stealth suit was my first kill team (and still one of my favorite, even if they juste can't win now...). I have a dream : this kill team, with 3 APL. And / or 3+ in shooting.
Glad to know my 6 Tyranid Warriors/10 Genestealers and 6 Stealth Suits are still viable in the new edition of Kill Team. I note that necrons have a specialist team in Heirotek Circle. How does it compare to their basic teams? Or Wyrmblade to the basic Genestealer Cultists? I know Legionnaire teams are solid and comparable to the Intercessor specialist team. Ty for this video glass.
Well, I'm not sure if I'd say the 6 stealth suits are super viable... but they're fun! Hierotek Circle are a really good team and the Chronomancer is an astounding model that will win you the game every time, or lose you the game if the enemy snipes him out. It's a very different team to the Compendium Necrons, so don't expect the same play experience, but it's definitively a stronger team. Oh, just be absolutely sure you understand how Reanimation Protocols actually works, because it's not clear. At all. In fact, I think it is tied for the worst written rule in the game. For just raw clarity, it's impossible to read right the first time.
With the Ecclesiarchy, have you given much thought to 5 Sisters + 5 Repentia? Ive been playing the Sisters since they came out and Im loving this combo more and more. If you split your team into 5 groups of 2, 1 sister and 1 repentia and treat them like single units they are pretty dangerous. The sister out front on engage with the repentia behind on conceal. Until its time to get into melee, its like having a 3+ armor save and a bunch of extra wounds for the repentia, and when you do reach melee you charge with the sister (but dont fight) and then charge the repentia in, giving them a 3+ hit. you have to play a bit of a leapfrog game to keep the repentia safe, but once you get used to it, its pretty easy. Its very rare to have 12" of open space on a board so thanks to the sister you can always move your repentia from cover position to cover position while concealed preventing them from being targeted directly
Hold on a minute, Glass you are giving me a crisis. What do you mean only 7 months left in this edition?? I sure hope not after the amount of money and time I’ve invested! Will my books and teams be phased out?? Already happened once with the 2019 edition
It's speculation at this point but GW is pretty consistently on a 3 year cycle for all their major game updates (see 40k, AOS, even KT itself - it was released in 2018 and the new, current version in 2021) Regardless of when the new version comes out, we can just hope that most/all of the teams from this edition are still usable (or just play the older version 🤷♂️)
@GlassHalfDead If we plan to play mini friendly tournament "compendium only" should we apply balance data slates or only use book? E.g. that additional chaos/loyalist space marine unit change a lot balance wise or limit to grenades So rephrase question if we want to play compendium only will it be more balanced without the later meta updates?
Hate that my favorite faction, the Tau, are just at the very bottom here. You’d think that they at least would have good abilities to shoot considering, ya know, they’re the shooting faction
That'd be the Imperial Guard kill team, they can take two fireteams of Guardsmen, or one fireteam of Guardsmen and one of Tempestus Scions, or two fireteams of Scions. You can find them in the Compendium, or online.
Thank you, useful video. I'm just getting into Kill Team (as requested by a feeing of mine as he wants someone to play with!) and have just bought and assembled the Salvation teams. My question is: Is the 2023 annual any use to me in 2024 at this beginner stage?
I am very much of the opinion that you should just use digital rules. Now, getting 6 months of use out of a book is decent enough imo, but there's really very little need for it. Most factions have had an update from a balance dataslate as well. Personally I idea wahapedia or ktdash. My physical books are just taking up space I literally don't use them. But I do accept that most people learn better from physical media, so it's up to you. If you just want the datacards then of course use philtean
I'm with you on that hope. I am enjoying this game and my group is a healthy mix of compendium and bespoke teams. The rules are easy to get into and the depth of tactics and choices during the game are incredible.
Curious, why deathwatch was so far down in the C tier When they have four plasma, equivalence, and all have power swords, when there was a team in the justification, was only that they have power source
I have not heard this anywhere. White dwarf teams are as valid as every other specialist team. If you mean the compendium Harlequins then they are not tournament legal, you need to use their white dwarf team instead
The current Eldar bespoke teams don't quite do it for me as I love just regular Guardians. It could really be unique to have a bespoke team of Craftworld Eldar with a gun platform, but maybe I should just buy a box of guardians and give the compendium a try. Something I don't understand is, can I buy a box of Guardians and make half Guardian Defenders and the other half Storm Guardians and just play it like that? One fireteam Defenders and the other Storms?
@@losethegame101 I think that's what I misunderstood. I thought the fireteams had to be the same type. That's good to know! So I could do a mix of Guardian Defenders with a heavy weapons platform and then also some Storm Guardians? That could be something fun for me. I don't currently play any GW games, but I think I might start getting into Kill Team.
"One box and you're playing" doesn't hold true as much with every astartes team needing 6 models and Veterans shining at 14 models with 10 in the box. Otherwise this was a nicely positive look back at the compendium. "Compendium" should probably be touted as its own intermediate game mode between Kill Team and Boarding Patrol.

How are we feeling about heavy intercessors? 😬

I really hope there is more than 7 months left in this edition, probably the best and most balanced GW system in 20 years.
I'm with you on that hope. I am enjoying this game and my group is a healthy mix of compendium and bespoke teams. The rules are easy to get into and the depth of tactics and choices during the game are incredible.
Yea they haven't even released alternate bespoke options for every faction. There's no need for a new edition yet.

So for my baby Brood Coven, you recommend just running 10 hybrid metamorphs?
