@@jeltehoekstra2952 lol since learning it I’ve been punishing it. Am at 1000 ish rn and they still make the mistakes. It’s just not as easy to punish as you have to sacrifice some pieces to get that queen there.

38:51 notice even though he outranks this guy by 1600 pts, he was "waiting" for a mistake, as opposed to trying to blow the weaker player off the board. Very instructive, something I've been working on myself lately is respecting my opponents.
Very true. I tend to get cocky if I notice a big rating difference or see early mistakes in someone's play. Hurts like a bitch when I blunder because I got too aggressive :(
@@SalamanderMagic Ben finegold said in one of his lessons that the majority of games both players play +/- equally good moves until someone makes a blunder and loses, so focus on not being that guy because the game is in its essence at our level „Who’s gonna blunder more losses”
At higher levels comes the concept of positional play and it can be normal that no bad moves where made by anyone yet theres a clean winner because his end position was a better end game setup. But I think the definite most of us arent good enough to orchestrate a middle game with a certain endgame in mind. But I think that until about 1500 its enough to learn to play solidly and focusing on not blundering.

Hehe i know the feeling but at lower rated games people often blunder pieces or they get tunnel vission trying to make impossible mates with to few pieces while they ignore things like a backrank mate etc.

GothamChess, always enjoyed chess but at 29 I took a brain injury and it became a passion, dedicated myself to it. Play 4-5 games at ICC every day. Today I'm only 1480; but just started devoting serious time to it, studying it. I'm 46. Really enjoy your stuff man, thanks. And yes, brain damage- chess fanatic, the irony is ******* killing me over here.
I was 700 and then I started learning openings such as Scotch for white and Caro Ken for black, now I’m 850 in just 1 day and I’m still getting better, I just watched your thirty minute tutorials on each move around 5-6 times each so I can memorize the common situations.
How long did it take you overall too get this good? I’ve always found chess intriguing but never really enjoyed playing it until now. I can say that my tiny brain is always trying to go offensive leaving many options for my opponent too flank and blunder me. There’s just so many pieces on the board how can I get better at tracking my pieces
@@tydamartian2497 I’ve been playing pretty much my whole life but very on and off. I got back into it a year ago where I was around 700 Elo. After watching some videos and memorizing some lines I sit around 1150. For a beginner I would say play 50 games so you get a feel of movement basic strategy and defense. And then start to learn openings to enhance your understanding. The more you play the better you will get, like anything, but it takes some time.

This is your first video that I’ve seen. I usually don’t watch videos longer than 20-25 minutes, but this was amazing. I started watching it yesterday night, and my eyes got tired from watching too much screen. So, I went to sleep and came back today to finish it.
I really love the fact that you explain the moves while playing and after a game, you also explain other different possibilities. That’s why I wish that you make longer videos, because that would be very informative.

This style of video is my favourite of yours, just playing a big volume of games and explaining what you're thinking. Especially when you play against people in the 1400-1800 range.
I died when Levy blundered his bishop. Makes me feel a little better about myself to see even someone at his skill makes blunders. To be fair I think he was only giving the game like 30% attention because of the chat but whateverrr

So much knowledge its nice to pass all the thousands of hours uve studied compiled to a very manageable hours series for those average Joe’s who fell in LOVE with the game. And want to play well and win. I had the obvious desire to be a gm set it like a life goal. Then looked into what’s in tailed n u really put it in prospective. It’s just a title, play the game.
I mean I still want to achieve the knowledge level of a gm but not have to spend all that Money.

in evans gambit after black plays Bxf2 white only has a slight advantage, so black's position isn't that 'terrifying'. Black plays g6 no problem. Cuz white played Qh5 instead of Nf5

Gotham, a video where you break down piece checkmates would be really good. A lot of the videos explaining the common piece checkmate aren't very good, and I feel like you could teach them very well (I.e. 2 bishop mate, bishop and knight mate, etc.).
Recently fell back in love with chess , playing daily after not for many years , needed to find a good place of chess strategy, and knowledge and I have absolutely found it with this channel Gotham chess ....skilled and entertaining at the same time....great vids bro !!

I started getting back into Chess like millions of others after the Queens Gambit movie and then started watching TH-cam videos on chess. I also like Daniel Naroditsky but for my money Levy at Gotham Chess is the best by far. His climb vidoes are more addictive than beer or chocolate!!!

when you were playing the 885er, you couldve mated by taking the pawn on e5 with your d4 pawn, they take with their d6, you take the queen, the rook takes, you take the rook with your rook, then they block with the knight of e8, you take, then they block with bishop to f8, then you take with rook and checkmate
I started watching your videos about a week ago and started playing this strategy against the King's Indian and my opponent made (essentially) the same blunder your opponent in Game 2 made.
1. d4, g6
2. bf4, bg7
3. kc3, kf6
4. e4, d6
5. qd2, o-o
6. o-o-o, e5
7. dxe5, dxe5
Thanks for sharing this game. I'm still learning the ins and outs of these two positions against each other but I immediately saw this blunder because of this video.

Love the way you play and comment on your moves in the game being played. Here's a suggestion: systematically go through all the most popular chess openings, with you playing White pieces
....and explain the various responses the black pieces could/should make. I realize this would require hundreds of videos to accomplish, but I believe the task would improve your game considerably and might possibly turn someone in your audience into the next world champion!!!😇

I enjoy the content and presentation and have subscribed. While I fully understand and appreciate a channel’s desire to monetize their videos, I truly don’t know if I have seen videos with more advertisements throughout the video. Truly takes away from the enjoyment of watching.

Gotham, speaking of pre-moves, will you do a video just on when to do pre-moves and when to avoid them? Thumb up if you want this subject covered.
That's a pretty simple one that doesn't require a video. Only premove when there is only one possible move; when your premove relies on a particular move and would be an illegal move if the move it relies on wasn't played.
Sometimes Levi plays down to the level of his opponents and makes mistakes he would have never made against high-rated people
It's natural to underestimate people who are clearly not as knowledgeable, but that doesn't mean it can't bite you on the ass haha

@6:42 Gotham castled his king and missed a golden opportunity. Pawn to e5 is a fork between his opponents rook and bishop. Bishop only has 1 safe square left on the board, and that is e5 to take the pawn, but if he takes the pawn then he could've played knight to c2 checking the king and then taking the rook since the bishop would no longer be protecting the square, but if opponent moves the rook then pawn can take the bishop
Not a burn in any way on Gotham though, he's a fantastic teacher and I love watching his videos and learning so much from him, just hoped someone might see the comment and be able to use it and learn from it in case they're ever in the same position
What are you talking about?? e5 isn't a fork of any kind
@@vacatedguy7629 oh you're right, I forgot to add that he'd have to move either his queen or or rook (after castling) to e8 first, and then it becomes a fork (fork being the term used when you force an opponent to choose which piece to keep between 2 pieces)
What if opponent takes with their knight on f3?
@@futuregull2331 oh youre right, so what if instead of castling, gotham mobed pawn to f6, then on the next turn pawn to e5? Knight takes pawn, pawn takes knight, bishop takes pawn, knight takes on f2, checking the king and taking the rook, or if opponent moves the rook then pawn takes bishop

17:02 I always play e4 at move 4 and then Qd2 (Bh6 isn't going anywhere), and then castle long ofc. I think it's better this way. Otherwise black can play d5 and I don't like that... Btw the key idea here is not allow the black to play e5.
Sometimes they can play Nd7 afterwards this position. But if you've played e4 you can immediately play e5 there and win on the spot. (Rook and Queen battery on the d file) Furthermore, there are ideas like e6 with a pawn sacrifice and then Bc4 etc
