I can see he is really looking forward to become the biggest chess youtuber. He is soooo good at teaching chess, i whole heartedly wish he achieves his goal.
I really appreciate this channel, I’m thirteen and I just started playing chess. Watching one of your videos gave me an immediate advantage over some of my family members. Aka my younger brother and mother. I haven’t played anyone else in my family. But I know most of them are really good. My grandpa is insane at checkers and chess, he can map out a whole plan and then put me in a trap and I lose. Chess so far is really fun and I feel “fancy” knowing how to play.
Hold on to that. I loved chess when I was a kid. There was no internet (obligatory "back in my day" statement), but I'd check out move lists from games in the newspaper. I ran into a couple of masters that were just kind of jerks and it really soured me on the whole thing. I stopped playing and never went back. I wish I had kept up. Chess is one of the few pure competitions out there. Modern video games are loaded with RNG so bad players can beat better players and feel better about themselves. With chess, when you win, you deserved that win, 100% of the time. And when you lose, you can always go back and study why so that you can become better. I hope you keep learning and improving and most of all, keep enjoying it!

@@michaeltorrisi7289 I'd add fighting games as a caveat to your point about RNG in video games. Fighting games don't have RNG and like chess, every win is deserved, and losses can be studied later. In fact, me learning fighting games has helped me learn chess since the same skills for analyzing your games and improving after a loss carry over.
My 7 year old actually let me win the first time I played her. She said, I had to let you win mom, you're so bad at chess it's no fun playing with you. So I'm thankful to watch these videos, I find them very helpful in my goal to interest my daughter to a game with me that she can actually enjoy!

My first year playing, I tried to memorize openings and found that whenever my opponent made a move that I was not familiar with I made all kinds of blunders. Watching your vid analyzing moves instead of memorizing openings is way better, thanks

I recently came back to the game, and am rated in 550 - 600 range. To improve I'm doing 4 things: 1. Learn one opening each for White and Black. 2. Do lots of puzzles. 3 Don't play lots of games, only play 2-3 a day and analyse my results. 4 Watch GothamChess videos (and learn from them)

My headcanon is that when the pawn becomes a queen, it takes its helmet off and reveals that it was the real queen the whole time and the other queen was just a decoy.

@19:44 I believe that this is the point levy starts to believe that the viewer is watching the stream. If you notice, he begins to talk more to the audience ("dont resign.", "ok you could resign now") he also alternates his strategies without saying every possibility of his plan.
This is good advice. I usually just blunder, then scream "why did I do that!?" at my phone, then wait and see if my opponent blunders badly enough I can still win.
i remember in high school i joined the chess club just to lose and have a sense of having some type of friends. now at 21 i am actually finding a love for the game, using it to try to expand my mind, and and become more quick witted. if only i realized what i was missing while chasing friendships with people who woldnt even be in my life in the next 4 years.

@@CC-ip7xl Thanks for the explanation. I just don’t feel that locking in your queen when your rooks are out of play is the best strategy. Black could move qf6. If white goes rh3, black could go qf5. If white then threatens rock with bg5 black could either move pawn to f6 to later move the rook forward. Difficult to speculate, but generally I feel like trapping your queen behind a pawn and a knight isn’t the best idea.

Beginner here who's still learning. At 1:29:15 wouldn't the best move be qf6? What am I missing?
he can put the rook on h3 and defend ... and it opens up potential for bishop g5 which wins you a rook for a bishop ...
@@CC-ip7xl Thanks for the explanation. I just don’t feel that locking in your queen when your rooks are out of play is the best strategy. Black could move qf6. If white goes rh3, black could go qf5. If white then threatens rock with bg5 black could either move pawn to f6 to later move the rook forward. Difficult to speculate, but generally I feel like trapping your queen behind a pawn and a knight isn’t the best idea.
