About Over The Garden Wall:
On an adventure, brothers Wirt and Greg get lost in the Unknown, a strange forest adrift in time. A wise old woodsman and bluebird Beatrice help them find their way. Along the way, Wirt's thoughts envelope him, while the wonder of the surroundings preoccupy Greg. The miniseries -- based on creator Patrick McHale's cartoon short "Tome of the Unknown" -- features animation that evokes a nostalgic storybook feeling, inspired by folk art and classic illustrations. The voices include Elijah Wood and Christopher Lloyd with Samuel Ramey, Chris Isaak and John Cleese among guests.

This song feels so reflective of classic Americana. Like walking down a New England Main Street during main or walking down rural Mississippi or looking at the river from a river boat. Something so changing.

Funny thing is, I didn't watch it back when it first aired. I watched this in 2021, a few months after getting kicked out my mom's house, which evidently she's the reason I missed the week it was on the first place. Still the best theme song in cartoon history.

this is pretty close to alot of new england salon music, which was a style of music in the mid to late 1800s. its a genre of classical. try ethelbert nevin, he did a suite called in arcady which sounds pretty close alot of the music on this show, think shepards tale and lullaby are on a compilation of his songs on youtube.
orchestral Americana
This is a ragtime theme.
It is a slow (for ragtime) syncopated theme.
The melody is ragtime in construction and syncopation.
However, it doesn't have the march bass here, but instead, long-held tones played by the cello, viola and 2nd violin.
So I would call this classic ragtime or a ragtime intermezzo in mood and feel.
It does also cross over with salon music in mood, feel and era, hence 'intermezzo' as a reference to the numerous syncopated and unsyncopated instrumental standalone intermezzos composed and published in the ragtime era.
Although today, ragtime is stereotyped as only (or mainly) piano solo music,
