#5: Rebounding
- With Christian Braun entering the starting lineup as a 6'7" SG, Nuggets will be an even bigger, more athletic team than last year which leads to better rebounding allowing for more 2nd chance points, cutting, etc. Even if guys like Christian Braun misses a shot, they'll be in position to fight for rebounds and clean up the glass. Braun is very athletic and can even catch alley oops similar to AG. That positional size and athleticism at shooting guard is very underrated. Russ and Dario are elite rebounders at their positions too which matters a lot for the Nuggets bench.
Braun can’t shoot the 3 to save his life. Him starting will make Nugs’ spacing worse, which makes Jokic’s life much harder

Braun is not the movement shooter and sniper that KCP was, but I think he's able to knock down some open 3s. He shot 38% from 3s last season even if it was on low volume. He just has to continue to shoot above average on 3s which I think can be achieved. The only knock with Braun is his 3s, but if there's not a huge drop-off in 3 pt %, Braun could potentially be an improvement over KCP. Also, I didn't mention this before. Braun and KCP are different types of guards with their own strengths and weaknesses, so I believe Nugget's offense will be a bit different with Braun starting. And honestly expecting Braun to play the exact same way that KCP did would be a mistake. Like Braun is not just going to stand in the corner as a catch and shoot guy on the floor every time because that's not his game. CB can be used as a screener, cutter, or even a lob threat. On top of that, he can attack the rim and draw fouls much better than KCP because of his physicality and size. There are many ways to utilize Braun on offense and the ability to space the floor is important but it's only a part of it.

Denver’s biggest problem is their lack of quality off the bench.

And their bench really matters because Jokic has been the only durable player on the entire roster for years now. If Westbrook is still as good and as durable as last year, Denver should be better. Losing KCP (their best defender and one of their more consistent shooters) will probably hurt. Braun can defend, but he hasn't been a good shooter since his arrival in the NBA. Still, he's young and could have improved his jump shot in the offseason.
Denver's other major problem is that the only consistent shooter on the roster has been Jokic. Even high % guys on the Nugs are really streaky (the high % guys just stop shooting once they miss a few). That's a huge problem. The Mavs made it to the Finals without a real shooter on the roster and Denver won a title without one, but not having a real spot-up shooter does make it unnecessarily hard.
Adding russ will help, Strawther looks like he could be a vastly improved player, PWat will be amazing if he fixed his shot, Trey alexander looked really good in SL

It was obvious that Denver was simply gassed come playoff time. Jokic, Murray and MPJ were clearly sluggish.

agreed. this bench has never been better since the Bruce and Uncle Jeff bench and that time, CB was still a rookie. Compared to now, Nuggets have Russ, who hopefully fills that missing Bruce Brown role, Saric as the reliable big man, 3rd year Pwat and sophomore Strawther

The bench wasn’t producing
Yup, Nuggets didn't finish the job. Plain and simple. That series was Nuggets to lose. The beat down in Game 6 was understandable (although getting completely blown out by 30, 40 points was not ideal. Regardless that was only 1 game). However, there was absolutely no excuse for Nuggets to blow a 20 points lead in Game 7. That loss was on Malone. He ran the starters to the ground and barely trusted anyone off the bench. In fact, the whole series Malone was playing too safe leading up to the meltdown in Game 7. Should have utilized Peyton's length, size, and athleticism to match up against the Wolves size. I don't care if Watson can't shoot well from 3s. There are other ways to use him on offense like maximizing his defensive playmaking skills to get easy baskets in transitions, but Malone is too traditional in his approach especially when it comes to young players. What pissed me off is the starters were gassed at home yet we have fresh legs like CB and Watson waiting to be subbed in. Heck, I think Malone could have even played Zeke Nnaji in the series allowing AG and Jokic some rest if it's just a couple minutes. Playing Justin Holiday was a temporary "fix" in the rotation, but it should not have come at the expense of Peyton's minutes. Also should have played Braun more when KCP was getting cooked every single game. It's literally BBQ chicken every single time when Ant see that it's KCP on the other side. And I get that Nuggets bench was nowhere as good as Wolves bench, but Malone can't just give up on the bench. And that's exactly what he did in Game 7 hoping Jokic and the starters can salvage the game in the end. Unfortunately, the starting lineup as a whole didn't play well enough to stop the Wolves furious comeback because they're gassed. It's almost as if to stop the comeback in the 2nd half, the team needed defense as well. Braun and Watson both provide that at an elite level. I applaud the Nuggets for fighting back down 0-2 heading into Wolves's home court, but ultimately Nuggets got out coached and went out in an embarrassing fashion.
The bench just couldn't get the ball in the bucket. The starters would get a lead and the bench would give it up, every game.

Decent video... But your opening sentence is simply false. The Nuggets have extended EVERYONE possible. They didn't retain KCP because they will be forced to extend a large contract to AG next offseason and go into the 2nd apron. Four huge contracts and a lot of cheap cost controlled players(Braun, Watson, etc). AG>KCP

It's not that they don't want to spend money. It's that they literally don't have money to spend they have 3 max contracts, Porter Jokic and Murray. Losing KCP was tragic, but also paying 66 million 3 years for him is ridiculous

Nugs will finish top 4 again in the West. Russ, Murray, Porter and Gordon will press the rim as they are 4 of the best cutters in the game with THE BEST passing big in Joker. If they can avoid injuries, Denver wins the West
So everything which has made them a contender the last few years +Westbrook. True. I think Dario and the development of Strawther will be extremely beneficial as well. I wish Holmes didn't get injured, that worked have been huge. CB will be better I'm sure. I don't think losing BB and KCP is our undoing at all!

Russ is going to put us back up where we need to be. He’s going to fill the gap that we had when we lost Bruce. Braun will step up and add greater defense to the starting lineup, as to where kcp was getting cooked by Ant in the playoffs. I’m super optimistic and excited for this next season

To be a championship team, you have to go 8 deep. Nuggets lost Bruce Brown and suddenly didn't have the depth. That's why they lost to the Wolves. THEN they lost KCP, and lost even more depth. Your main counterargument that they will be contenders this year is...... their top 3 guys? Having a top 3 doesn't address a lack of depth in any way. You COULD argue that Russ is going to be a good contributor on the level of Brown/KCP (which I am skeptical of) but they are still missing that 8th guy.
