There was a hair metal band called Pretty Boy Floyd, so they named themselves Ugly Kid Joe. These guys were a metal band, but not thrash. Good sense of humor. I remember them fitting in well on MTV in the early 90s at the height of alternative and grunge. Not many new metal bands flourished at that time. Their video was fun.
Yep..early ninties.....broke, living in a hotel in rural Texas, smoking weed and listening to this and other cds...it defined my late teen years....my roommate had a girlfriend that still lived with her dad (were all 18-19) and it was about a 15 minute walk there, sometimes listening to this CD on my CD Walkman. Wed go in the morning and wait in the alley behind their house, and wait to see her dads car pull away, then wed go in the house.....hed go bang his girlfriend in her bedroom, and Id raid the kitchen and watch cable....good times
So to get some perspective they should do a reaction to Pretty Boy Floyd "Electric Boys with Electric Toyz". But you gotta do the official mucis video. It's a visual thing. Lol
They did there first show with Pretty Boy Floyd and didn't have a name yet. They were asked when they got to the venue what their name was to put on the Marque, they saw PBF and said we're Ugly Kid Joe.
The singer of this band Whitfield Crane, is one of the most amazing singers. Up there with Mike Patton of Faith No More. Whitfield Crane has even filled in on vocals for Metallica's singer James Hetfield a few times in the past, for whatever reasons.
Can't hear this song without thinking of Jackyl's "The Lumberjack." They both came out in the early 90's and were a lot of fun. AC/DC had a bagpipe in their "It's A Long Way To The Top" song, but it ain't got nothin' on the solo from "The Lumberjack" =)
Much respect for the Jackyl Lumberjack shout out I had totally forgotten about Ugly Kid Joe. Hadn't heard this song for 20yrs, same for Jackyl. Lumberjack reaction videos just skyrocketed to the top of my to do list.
I actually love this album (America's Least Wanted). Very underrated IMO. The main reason they didn't get bigger than they did was that they came out in the early 90s when grunge was starting to take over, but they still had a sort of hair metal sound and that just wasn't where music was at anymore. But yeah, some really good stuff on that album. It's one I usually listen to all the way through. You should check out their cover of "Cats in the Cradle". It's really good.
They still had a pretty good following and were played on MTV a lot. They were in the same grouping as Faith No More at the time, not really hair metal and not really grunge. Just angsty rock.
Yeah, no... They were all over MTV and everyone loved their fun take on the hairband rock style - but they basically simply couldn't follow it up and everyone forgot about them in the process. I mean: They weren't like comedy geniuses or anything, and I'm guessing it was just fun while it lasted. To us and to them.
Listen to their 96 CD Motel California, they totally updated their sound. Unfortunately it was too late. People thought of them as one of those hair bands that just snuck in at the beginning of grunge and that was it for them. I love that Motel cause it sounds like 96.
The intro was Pat from the Saturday Night Live skit called, "Pat". They were an androgynous character created and performed by Julia Sweeney. Freakin' hilarious back in the day...
I Literally just commented this. I was pretty sure it was "Pat." Lol That skit was absolutely hilarious. Not too sure how ppl would feel abt it these days.
Another under rated band that had a short life, came out around the time grunge was blowing up the music scene.... if I remember correctly. Their cover of "Cats in the Cradle" is excellent 🤘😎🤘
I played this song in my cover band. Our singer that also plays guitar could not do the rap part while playing guitar, so I did the rap verse while playing the drums. The audience would look around at first trying to see who was rapping, and once they realized it was the drummer, they lit up. LOL
Sooo glad someone finally reacting to them. They are so good. Came through my town in the early 90's. One of the best shows I have ever seen. As someone mentioned "So Damn Cool" should be next.
These are the guys that pioneered Metal and hip hop! I was there at 12 in a band when this came out and i was the only one that saw, loved and woke a bit after this released! Epic and everything about you were one of our covers we did brilliantly! Crisis from Aiden
This song is dedicated to 80s hair bands. They went under a different name when they opened for Pretty Boy Floyd, they hated it so bad that they changed their name to Ugly Kid Joe!!! True story.
Saw UKJ in 1995, when they opened for Def Leppard. They were AWESOME(So was Def Leppard of course). If you like some comedy interjected into your songs. Then you gotta listen to "Neighbor". GREAT reaction as always. Keep it up guys! \m/
Awesome!! Thanks for the UKJ. "Neighbor" and "Cats in the Cradle" would be excellent follow up choices. Now, for another comedy classic, you gotta breakout Scatterbrain - "Don't Call Me Dude". And the video is great too.
Ugly Kid Joe had potential to be huge in the 90's... they had a punk rock attitude... the playing skills and a great vocalist Whitfield Crane. Guitarist Dave Fortman went on to produce a number of major bands like Evanescence, Slipknot, Superjoint Ritual, etc... But UKJ slipped into obscurity, despite 3 great albums - "America's least wanted" (1992), 'Menace to sobriety' (1995) and 'Motel California' (1997) They reunited for another full album in 2015 - 'Uglier than they used ta be'. UKJ songs - "Milkman's son" ... 'Neighbor' ... 'Cats in the cradle' (Harry Chapin cover) ... 'My old man' ... "Tomorrow's world" ... "Don't go"... 🤘🤘🔥🔥
They came out with a new album in the past few years, and it totally kicks ass!! Their first single, Under the Bottom, is AMAZING and has some really heavy Black Sabbath vibes. Bad Seed is another really great song off that album as well.
Great band at the end of the hard rock era of the 80's/ early 90's. They have lots of terrific songs. My favourites besides this one are Busy Bee, their cover of Harry Chapin's Cats In The Cradle and Cloudy Skies which was from later in the 90's. I remember circa 1991, our local radio station had a Thursday night phone in request where people said their requests on air and this song was on every week. The band name was in response to a glam band named Pretty Boy Floyd who had some good tunes too.
this song was a ton of fun when it came out. I ended up really enjoying this band, they have 2 really solid albums (my favorites are Cats/Cradle and Record Man)
I remember them. Funny video and song. They and other hair rock bands kind of faded away during the early - mid '90s. When alt rock, grunge, punk, rap were blowing up in the mainstream, more popular. Most of us at my high school couldn't get into hair bands. They were more like Guns and Roses though. Edgier than most hair rock bands those times. One of the few hair bands we liked.
Love this band...I remember them back in the day when they was pushing their demo on Hollywood. Such a fun band to watch and the music and lyrics have always been top notch. Whitefield Crane. What smart and intellectual person. The band has had a few changes with members but still kept that original vibe. One of my all time fav bands till this day!!!
Oh my god I’m so happy you guys checked out Ugly Kid Joe! What a fun band that can do it all. I think you’d have a great time with their songs “Madman” and “Neighbor” if you want to hear more of them! And the weird talking at the beginning makes more sense with the video, it was done by a character that was popular on SNL at the time.
Oh this is my (old metal head) generation totally. If I only had a dime for every time I heard someone request a dedication to this song on the radio to him/her back in the day.
I absolutely LOVE this band! Have seen them several times. Saw them open for Ozzy in 91. Whitfield Crane is a bad ass singer. Still sounds just as good today. To me this band is a huge rabbit hole to hop into. As Ugly As They Wanna Be, And America's Least Wanted, are in constant rotation in my Playlist!
I met him when he was dating Duff. They came into my video store and didn't have a rental account or a credit card to sign up. I let them rent movies on my personal account. Thank God they returned them on time!
I'm divided on this band. They came out in 91, when hair metal was on the way out, but they kept changing and sounding more up to date with each album. They don't get enough credit for their Korn / Rage sound on Motel California. Most people didn't hear the later stuff and thought of them as hair metal. They always had modern elements to their sound, and worked hard to shed that hair metal image. I highly recommend Motel California, I love their more aggressive sound
Congratulations on 200k BTW. I remember when you just had a couple thousand. I still drop your names on every other reaction channel I watch. Congrats again. You deserve every sub you've gotten

Those guys are hysterical. I first met then at their debut record release concert at the Roxy. They didn't take themselves seriously at all. The video for this has them flying inflatable sex dolls full of helium like kites.
Those guys were so much fun when they came to Memphis in 92 I hung out with them all tonight and Whitfield had a thing for my female roommate so Whitfield ask us to come to Atlanta the next night and hang some more so we did it was a Blast!!! So much fun!!!!!
This brings back so many memories. I was in my Advanced Training at Fort Gordon and everyone was listening to this. A lot of drunk Saturday nights this song was sung.
Their cover of "Cat's In The Cradle" is excellent. Highly recommend that as anther reaction for this band.
Here here.
Ya that and the "be my neighbor" song...especially the music vid
This
Hell, yeah.
True, also though, I'd argue it's hard to go wrong with Ugly Kid Joe, they have a lot of good songs
We’re used to seeing a smile on Lex’s face throughout a video but this is one of those rare occasions that Brad smiled during the entire song lol
It does feel that way. I’d watch lex reacts over Brad reacts
That's probably because she really wasn't that crazy about it.
Brad didn't have to think too hard this time
@@cesarnarro6013 right. The poor girl side glances more often. As in how is he feeling right now. Says too much
This whole album is great. I highly recommend "Busy Bee", "Goddamned Devil", "Panhandlin' Prince", and "So Damned Cool".
Agreed, great album all the way through.
Mad Man
Agreed, great album. Not one bad track.
Definitely. And Neighbor
@@JohnWilson-ys5tc “Same Side” feels a little out of place on Americas least Wanted but still a good song.

The font on Lex’s sweatshirt is actually very fitting for Ugly Kid Joe. It looks just like the font on their album cover.
