I dont get why mechs dont have a broader appeal tbh. This game is so good, its gameplay is so smooth and fun and the story is REALLY good. Plus its from one of the most renowned devs in the business right now. And yet when ppl do lets plays of it it always underperforms. Ive seen other channels abandoned an ac vi playthrough because it wasnt pulling in the numbers. Which i understand, but its still a damn shame

Unfortunately mech games are very niche, but this game is a masterpiece. You are the perfect person to play through it and do it justice. I hope the series gets more love!
The soundtrack for the Balteus fight is such a banger that I'm glad it took you that many attempts so I could keep listening to it while watching peak.
I'm so glad you're actually reading the lore entries and paying attention to the story. There's some good shit in there. Side note: locking on helps with enemy tracking but actually reduces weapon accuracy so it's a bit of a trade off.
The accuracy isn't massively impacted, and it makes fighting 1v1 so much easier. I used lock-on for every boss in the game except chapter 3 (no spoilers ofc)
@@Fillet_O_ChrisIf you’re playing at the ideal range of your weapon and have a high performance FCS specialized for that range, the difference is negligible. It’s really only useful for long range kite builds that stay airborne and plink with linear rifles. Although yeah, if you can manage camera control at close range it *will* give you a decent vector of high skill expression and good results. But if I’m close range I’m probably playing double melee anyway and the requires you to be locked on for dash cancels.
Important tip Mapo!!: The lock on system only works if you don’t touch your right stick. Sometimes it looks like your lock on isn’t going to catch up with your target but it always will if you trust it! ACs are already hard enough to pilot, never mind controlling the camera manually too.
I find it kind of funny that most players do that at first. I didn't even know about it until it was brought up. Because the whole point of locking on is that you don't need to control the camera and yet most people still try to.
Learning to control the camera might be better in the long run because of the increased “stickiness” to the target, makes it easier for the bullets to track. Only drawback is having to remove the thump from the stick to dash and jump but having back paddles fixes that.
The kick is vital. It maybe doesn't seem like it does a lot at first, but after a while those little ticks of hp and posture damage do add up. Also you can often stagger something with the kick and land hits with your melee weopon after. It also just works as a gap closer and if you're assault boosting after something why not get some free damage while you're at it. Also every time balteus dodged your melee attacks and reteliated with the cannon a kick would've connected and would have given you enough downtime to dodge the canon afterwards.
The Balteus Boss was my "OMG NOW I GET IT" moment in Armored Core 6 This was the moment that made me fall in love with this game. The fight, the music, the challenge, Ayre talking to you not like a Dog or tool for war but like a human being I didn't even care that he defeated me again and again I just love the fight
Advice: I noticed you almost forgot about Lock-On. But then you pressed it during the last fight with Baltheus. But you still continued to turn the camera with the right stick, and that's your mistake. In AC6, Lock-On is not hard. Or rather, it is hard if you don't touch the right stick after locking on a target, but the game gives you the opportunity to unstick it from the enemy with the right stick, which is what you did ) In general, if you're 1 on 1 with an enemy, just Lock-On and don't touch the right stick. In that case, you don't need a quick turn. and your kick will always hit the target
Just a friendly tip: in both the shop and garage, you can press triangle to look at additional stats like boost efficiency, speed, jump height, ranged/melee weapon handling(damage bonus), and much much more. It also shows the drawbacks of more tanky builds and the advantages of lightweight builds (not that either is better; both have advantages and disadvantages). Also, the help option tells you what each stat dose is if it's not immediately apparent.
I really love how dying to someone for the first time never feels too bad in this game, because in addition to getting right back in the thick of it, they have a high chance to drop some exclusive dialogue on you. Has a higher chance of being badass instead of a Souls NPC calling you a psycho too.
Finally understanding the Balteus fight was a Genichiro level of satisfaction for me. I spent way longer than you did, changing my build several times and having to redo the whole mission every time. I had a much closer range AC so the fire sword attacks always hit me. My final build used a shield with a short block window so it felt like a Sekiro fight, blocking the fire sword and dodging the rockets and always being close for my sub machine gun to keep spraying. This fight assured me of a high quality of the boss fights in this game. Well played!
One piece of advice is that just like in Dark Souls, remember to lock on. in addition to making camera handling easier, a lot of boss/big enemy attacks are made with locking on in mind, which makes dodging them much more reasonable (as in Souls, there are of course exceptions). Another reason why locking on is important is that if you lose focus on an enemy, your FCS takes a moment to re-aquire them, making you much more inaccurate. Staying locked on lets you lose the FCS-lock much less.
The kick has a bit of a learning curve, and it's speed varies with what type of legs you are using (reverse jointed kicks are the best IMO) Sulla was kicking you during his fight, that's what was stunning and knocking you back so often. Kicks are great for melee builds since you can kick them out of an assault boost, stun them/break their stance, then launch into a melee attack. Double check the stats on your thruster, since there is a stat that determines how much distance you close when activating a melee attack, and that might have been causing so many of your sword swings to miss Baltaus.
Ah man, that whole final mission is still so phenomenal. Such a fuckin fun time. Great job with the Balteus; it's a tough fight, and even made some people quit outright.
Since I want you to do all 3 playthroughs, I will just leave a comment and I guess on every following part. While I certainly understand the skipping of building part, I would certainly like to see your reaction to new parts and weapons in the shop still and would recommend reading descriptions since some can be very amusing. I personally build my AC's light mostly. In the beginning on my first playthrough I mostly played a quad leg AC. The hover makes some missions very easy (like the Strider one and even Climbing the Wall), but the EN management can be a pain.
The Balteus theme is so good. The way it progressively harmonizes as the fight goes on to represent you and Ayre synchronizing brainwaves is actually such a gigabrained decision
To answer a question you had in part one. Replaying missions lets you farm money, as well as search for optional collectibles/achievements like the log hunt targets and such. Becomes more prevalent later into the game. NG+ and ++ actually give some new/different options to change up the later playthroughs. This is looking to be a really fun playthrough. Love to see someone paying attention to the details and really appreciating all the different ways in which this game is awesome.

Yeah it’s not bad. I did kinda initially groan when he went with the Unit-01 colors, it just looked so garish juxtaposed against the game’s art style. I like that he came up his own aesthetic instead of just picking a famous mecha and going with that. Now if he’d just got a bit more curious in terms of mechanics this LP would be perfect.
One thing that I’ve always admired about your playthroughs is that you take new games on the games terms. Too many people (myself included) went into this and were expecting it to be like a souls game. It’s not. It’s an Armored Core game. The only connecting factors are a slightly ambiguous story and a challenging approach to difficulty. I hope you’re still having fun. It’s a niche genre, but I couldn’t be happier that it’s getting its fair dues again
Commenting for the algorithm. Don't be afraid to explore the missions thoroughly as there are hidden parts and lore logs scattered about! Love the series
Remember, ACS overload is your friend for boss/ AC fights, kick is good to extend the overload, also make sure you have good weapons like blades or explosives to punish overloads and make sure your weapons are ready to punish! Your extension is also best used to kill pulse shields or as a punish for overloads
You did very good against Balteus. Ive seen that really mess people up. As far as your question about pur AC builds: I went super fast, lightweight, with close quarters weapons. Stacked 2 melee weapons in my left hand/shoulder so 1 was always off cooldown, and a shotgun in the right hand.
Commenting to help boost with the algorithm! One of my favorite parts about this game is the voice acting is phenomenal. These characters are just voices yet they are so, so memorable
Keep this game coming, Mapo, I for one will be watching and liking each episode. I'm sorry to hear this series isn't doing as well as some others...I can't imagine why because the game is absolute fire. You are my favorite lets player to watch play From Soft games because you have the patience to learn about the world as you go and give the story and world building the proper attention and respect. This was my first AC game and I was so thrilled to see From Soft put just as much love and detail into this world and its characters as they do in their other masterpieces. Plus it has the most badass scifi art direction and soundtrack.
I’ve been waiting for this let’s play for so long! So glad to see you doing this, it’s my favorite fromsoft game. Everything has been great so far, sad to hear it’s not getting the reach you were hoping for. It deserves it! Also, wouldn’t mind to see some of the ac customizing/building. Totally get that it may be boring for some but to me it’s such an integral part of AC that it’s still entertaining to see how other people go about it. Cheers!
Your mech for the boss at the end had almost 2x the hp of my mech at the time. I love the reverse joint legs. The speed and mobility was really fun. I was able to use the kick all the time with those too. In fact, I had a relatively low hp, reverse jointed mech for almost all of the first run. I experimented with other mech types when replaying missions for money. Of course my 2nd and third runs use different types of mech all the time. I would recommend building a few different mechs and swapping around for variety or as needed.
You definitely don't need quick turn to fight bosses like Baltheus (it's a pretty useless upgrade imo). When you're locked on, the camera will stay on. The lock on is a bit weird in this game because moving the right thumb stick will immediately break it. I suspect that this is what gave you trouble. Playing unlocked also has benefits, though, because it increases the precision of your long-range weapons. Also, have you checked the camera speed in the settings? The default is much too slow imo.
Quick turn allows you to do 90 degree turns while assault boosting, calling it useless is crazy. It’s necessary for the most effective and dangerous close range playstyles, it’s like saying melee cancels are useless.
@@spiraljumper74 Interesting. So it's actually commonly used for advanced pvp? As a pve player it never felt necessary to me and it's definitely not needed at the stage Mapocolops is in, but thx for the correction.
@@ksw8514 Yeah, at close range it allows you to keep a soft locked opponent in your sights while essentially assault boosting a circle around them. You’re almost impossible to hit for everything but the Ocellus with high-firearm spec arms, and you get the impact damage boost from assault boosting. It was very popular for awhile to play a heavyweight biped with only two shotguns and the buerzal booster. High defense and AP, big damage with kicks, and way faster than anything that big should be.
Man this makes me want to replay, but its still too soon. I can't wait for you to get toward the end, its so damn epic. You're mind is going to get blown.
As for my preferred AC build: Nachtreiher legs all the way baby! I love the agility and while normal bipeds only use the boosters to elevate, the rev-joints have an actual JUMP, meaning lots of grounded attacks can be avoided much easier. My strat tends to be to use the agility to get in, then use something heavy hitting like the shotgun or the pulse blade to break stance or tear thru shields. Works wonders.
Mappo! Some advice 😁 When you engage hard lock-on on PC, moving the camera (mouse, I assume?) breaks it, meaning that the camera cannot automatically track your target. This is why Balteus was able to get away from you so frequently. So, once you have hardlock on a target (solid reticle, not broken reticle), take the mouse off the table. Your FCS will do the rest. 🙂
You should definitely try other legs for different combat styles, i loved the Reverse Jointed legs for jumping over opponents and destroying them outside their reach.
Great job with the Balteus fight, especially in Australia's heat when your own AC unit is broken. I absolutely adore how Fromsoft handles the boss battles in this game. Balteus in particular, felt like watching the Olympics opening ceremony while at the same time being bombarded with it.
So happy you're playing this - it is a near perfect game for me, simply because it knows exactly what it is and focused on all of the right things. I am going to parrot what other people are saying; NG+ and ++ are more worth doing here than in any other FromSoft game. Tons of new levels, parts, bosses, and story. I would really recommend giving Reverse Joint legs a good chance, you lose out on health but they give you insane speed and jump height (without needing to use EN) which makes the bosses much more dance-like. Also, I like to use the shoulder weapon bay OS Chip to allow me the option of dual-wielding guns to really quickly break poise, and then immediately changing my left weapon to melee. Can't wait for more. I think you'll really love how this all comes together.
Don’t be afraid of the parts screen! Use *TRIANGLE* to bring up detailed stats that actually tell you how the part performs in relation to your other AC parts. Use the controller track pad button to access *CONTEXTUAL HELP!* It tells you everything you need to know in simple terms about what everything does. Vaatividya did a really good beginners guide to AC assembly that breaks down the core concepts of the building system and gives you a good framework for thinking about builds.
My favourite mechs to build in this game are flying artillery barrage machines that can't get hit because they're so high in the air but constantly dish out rockets and energy explosions on the peasants below.
I know AC is not as popular in viewership like the souls games, but it is such an amazing fun game! I hope that this playthrough gets more views 'cause it deserves it.
1:05:00 I'm blown away by this track. I was not expecting it to feel uplifting and motivating. What a beautiful change from FromSoft's usual soundscape. I love it. update: It was actually so good it made me cry wtf. ; - ;
So for me I went with a head that prioritizes scan range to make hidden items easier to fine. Reverse joint legs for mobility. Next priority was the weapons. First playthrough I went double verticle pulse missles on the shoulder, Zimmerman shotgun and a balanced blade beam. When the drill unlocks give it a shot. It is sooooooo good. Great for closing range.
The weapon bay OS upgrade is a pretty big deal, it allows for some super powerful melee combos once you unlock a few more melee weapons. And good job with Balteus! The chapter bosses are all very epic fights.
Tip: when it comes to locking on, once you're hard-locked onto an enemy don't touch the camera stick. The readjustments done by the camera on it's own, when interupted you'll lose the lock-on
Don't mind me, just feeding the algorithm Also, nice job internalizing the dodge on the "bweep bweep" missile. I was so overstimulated by the fight that I had to google "randomly exploding balteus why" before i figured it out lmao.
Such a fun game to play, and polished too. Hope future From series also allow for 120fps. Happy that you are enjoying it, was really looking forward to this playthrough!
Regarding AC build advice from the comments, one should know that many of the weapons have gone through a series of buffs or nerfs from release so don't take them too much to heart. Namely that most ballistic weapons have been repeatedly buffed so beware takes that were valid at the time about them being strictly worse than most weapons.
The boost kick can be super good, but yeah the quick turn is also kinda necessary lol. Definitely keep trying to incorporate the kick though, it’s both effective and fun Love this game, just gets better the more you play too imo
Be sure to charge melee weapons for more devastating attacks. Also when looking at AC parts and weapons in the garage or the shop, be sure to press triangle to see their actual full stats, as the small amount of stats you see on the surface barely represents the part as a whole and can be misleading. Also, when using “hard lock”, don’t touch the right joystick, as moving it will disrupt lock on.
Quick advice for better camera experience, when locked on just dont use the right stick to move the camera, you will track the target way better on 1v1 fights that way
I believe the fights in the arena are not actual fights you're having against those people but rather simulations made with data about the ACs, so G6 Red doesn't know you're fighting his AC in the Arena.
It took me quite a number of tries to beat Baltheus but I eventually did it with a heavy tank build using dual trigger weapons to get the shield down and double Laser cannons to quickly push damage Really fun build^^
Balteus almost made me quit. Had to go on a money farming spree and bought a bunch of weapons & armor until i found something that worked. In general i went with a light weight AC & reverse legs, very fun and agile.
This game is so fun even watching it really excites me I wished the arena started with you at place 100 I definitly need more content, new missions, arena fights and parts😂😂
You'll probably have figured it out by now anyway (I haven't finished the video), but the melee weapons and boost kick hit waaaay more reliably if you lock on with target assist: they actually home in on your target.
Hope y'all are enjoying the playthrough so far! This game is incredible and continues to impress me. If you're liking what you see please help with the algorithm! This series isn't getting much reach sadly, so any likes comments and shares, the usual would really help.

Yeah I turned all the cameras speed up when I played. I agree about the quick turn.
@@spiraljumper74 That sounds insane! Probably way beyond my skill level, but I have to try that. Thx for the info.
Mappo! Some advice 😁
When you engage hard lock-on on PC, moving the camera (mouse, I assume?) breaks it, meaning that the camera cannot automatically track your target.
This is why Balteus was able to get away from you so frequently.
So, once you have hardlock on a target (solid reticle, not broken reticle), take the mouse off the table. Your FCS will do the rest. 🙂
Data logs are fairly common if you search nooks and crannies for them. Same for combat log enemies.
Engaging to see more of this! Amazing how well and quick you learn every game lol
Vaatividya did a really good beginners guide to AC assembly that breaks down the core concepts of the building system and gives you a good framework for thinking about builds.
glad to see Sulla be a bit of a menace to new players
After so long in PVP, seeing someone as diligent as Mapo experience this game is helping me to remember why I loved it in the first place. 😁
really looking forward to future eps and i'm glad you're enjoying the game man, keep it up!!
My favourite mechs to build in this game are flying artillery barrage machines that can't get hit because they're so high in the air but constantly dish out rockets and energy explosions on the peasants below.
Literally all of G1 Michigan's voice lines are incredible
I know AC is not as popular in viewership like the souls games, but it is such an amazing fun game! I hope that this playthrough gets more views 'cause it deserves it.
1:05:00 I'm blown away by this track. I was not expecting it to feel uplifting and motivating. What a beautiful change from FromSoft's usual soundscape. I love it.
update: It was actually so good it made me cry wtf. ; - ;
Impressive first try against Balteus! You have a really solid grasp of the mechanics for chapter 1. I remember having a lot more trouble with Balteus.
Really looking forward to Mapo digging into the story as we go!
When you're sliding around all i can think of is the multi-track drifting trolley problem meme
The readjustments done by the camera on it's own, when interupted you'll lose the lock-on
Don't mind me, just feeding the algorithm
Also, nice job internalizing the dodge on the "bweep bweep" missile. I was so overstimulated by the fight that I had to google "randomly exploding balteus why" before i figured it out lmao.
Imaginary (?) disembodied-voice-in-head potential girlfriend acquired! Life goal met!
That bows mission, where you are stuck in the chamber with the 4 ACs, was one of the few missions I couldent S rank.
So cool to see you have a go at this great game, man! 👍🏼
Such a fun game to play, and polished too. Hope future From series also allow for 120fps. Happy that you are enjoying it, was really looking forward to this playthrough!
Balteus is such a goddamn brutal fight
'Who up armoring they core?'
Really digging the look of this AC.
Balteus was a hell of a fight
This is sick. Will pick up on sale now for sure!
The boost kick can be super good, but yeah the quick turn is also kinda necessary lol. Definitely keep trying to incorporate the kick though, it’s both effective and fun
Love this game, just gets better the more you play too imo
Be sure to charge melee weapons for more devastating attacks. Also when looking at AC parts and weapons in the garage or the shop, be sure to press triangle to see their actual full stats, as the small amount of stats you see on the surface barely represents the part as a whole and can be misleading. Also, when using “hard lock”, don’t touch the right joystick, as moving it will disrupt lock on.
He is doing pretty well, especially considering that he forgot that lock on even exists...
Thanks for the video, been interested in watching you play this game
for those watching, immediately upgrade your quick turn when you get access to OS chips. vastly improves mobility
Love this series so much!!
It's a pet peeve of mine when you're almost dying but you have three repair kits left. 😵💫
It's best to kick when their "posture" is broken. Or kick the sword.
Mapos first AC6 skill check.
I hope that once this lets play ends (not that I'm not having fun) I hope we could get to see that Lies of P playthrough, fingers crossed 🤞
The OST for the kick is better with different leg types so its not a complete loss if you dont like the regular kick
Quick advice for better camera experience, when locked on just dont use the right stick to move the camera, you will track the target way better on 1v1 fights that way
You should also absolutely always do the arena.
Always press melee attack twice to do 2 attacks
I believe the fights in the arena are not actual fights you're having against those people but rather simulations made with data about the ACs, so G6 Red doesn't know you're fighting his AC in the Arena.
Mapo, again, taking hold new genre and theme11👍👍
It took me quite a number of tries to beat Baltheus but I eventually did it with a heavy tank build using dual trigger weapons to get the shield down and double Laser cannons to quickly push damage
Really fun build^^
Balteus almost made me quit. Had to go on a money farming spree and bought a bunch of weapons & armor until i found something that worked.
In general i went with a light weight AC & reverse legs, very fun and agile.
Another amazing video, love how you actually stop to read stuff
No one does better fromsoft players than Mapo on TH-cam
"GUN 13 RAVEN"
Me: 😊
Love the play though so far.
This game is so fun even watching it really excites me
I wished the arena started with you at place 100
I definitly need more content, new missions, arena fights and parts😂😂
Your video made me buy this asap
You'll probably have figured it out by now anyway (I haven't finished the video), but the melee weapons and boost kick hit waaaay more reliably if you lock on with target assist: they actually home in on your target.
