17:30 - I heard somewhere that the XCOM 2 accuracy routine is a bit weird and doesn't do what you might expect it to. Supposedly, crit is independent of hit, instead of being a percentage of hit. For example, if you have a 60% hit and a 50% crit, you might expect that the way this would break down is 30% crit, 30% normal hit, 40% miss, and this is what most other games do, including XCOM 1. But in XCOM 2, crit being independent of hit means that the actual outcomes are 50% crit, 10% hit, 40% miss. Presumably if the unit has a higher critical chance than hit, then if they do land the hit, it will be a 100% crit. This makes flashbangs pretty risky, because it just means that if they do hit you, they're almost certainly going to crit you.
This is exactly right. Some mod(I don’t remember exactly what it is) shows a bar with the 4 possible outcomes of the shot. The visual aid helps a lot when determining the actual chances.
Also, i'm pretty sure there was a chance the sectoid would've just used psi BS if he didn't flashbang it, or better, if he just yolo-rocketed the trooper. You're not short on explosives, you're short on dead enemies, and a dead trooper and 1 hp sectoid may just decide to GTFO whereas two 1 hp enemies flashbanged will sit in cover and shoot you...
Yes, but also no. As far as I'm aware, the aliens calculations work exactly like that, HOWEVER, XCOM suffers from the logical crit chances. 60% to hit with 50% crit chance only means a 30% chance to crit for your soldiers. (I might be wrong, but I do recall researching this in the past)
@@nathanb2324 Nah, xcom and alien hit calculations work the same way. If a shot is 60 to hit and 50 to crit, then a “bar” is filled with 60 to hit and 40 to miss, and then 50 of that 60 to hit is filled with crit. (There are a few minor behind the scenes tweaks to this, but this is generally how it works). So if a random number 1-100 is rolled, 1-50 would be a crit, 51-60 would be a hit, and 61-100 is miss.
To answer your early question: yes, you can suppress with a shotgun. It's a little weird since your guy shoots and re-cocks over and over again, but it works just fine (and could be better than taking a low chance shot).
19:16 Disorientation does only last 1 turn. When the stun lancer hit again, it re-applied disorient, resetting the timer. The exact same effect as 2 consecutive flashbangs.
"This man is handing out one-shot crits like he's a shield bearer." The soldiers may not be hitting alot of shots, but Drifter's commentary never misses.

Technically speaking, they do get the same aim bonuses/penalties, but the range table for their weapons is the same +0 to hit for all ranges. So, yeah, point blank for them is the same chance as just barely in range.

59:30 this doesn’t help anyone that wants to play with the class pack Drifter is using but in the current version of long war of the chosen (I’m playing a Ted Jam run right now) that rocket no longer leaves a smoke cloud at its destination. Merry Christmas and happy new year, Drifter. I remember seeing the 100 grenades video 2 years ago (I can't believe it's been 2 years). All the best for the next year and I can't wait to see where you take your channel next.
I absolutely love your videos, drifter! They got me back into xcom and got me to even try wotc! Love your videos and hope to one day find myself in your character pool!
I believe the concussion rocket is meant to be used to give your shinobi cover while doing his reaper chains, especially with coup de gras. I've never used it that way though, but it does give smoke on impact in Long War 2.

Looking at the end screen, I can see your problem: Santa got sent to the shadow realm because you ended the campaign after Christmas! He lost all his power before you hit the final mission! Jokes aside, it sucks that this run went so wrong for you. I wouldn't mind at all if you went and did something just for fun as a change of pace. Maybe even a casual run in a different game of the same genre.
Honestly, couldn't think of a better thing for you to cover for good old Santa In all seriousness. This is a very very good class in LW, easily one that I'd consider the best, with a catch, don't expect loot with them. Hope you like heavy weapons, because that's what you get. This is shockingly simple for LW2, and it is that simple for once
55:02 Honestly this map has been responsible for some of my worst tactical encounters in the entire game. It is so small that all of the enemies spawn right on top of each other, and there’s ALWAYS turrets on the train. My last encounter on this map my soldiers had plated armor and magnetic weapons and two of the 4 pods (not including 2 turrets) had Andromedons, and the third pod had a Muton. Oh, and did I mention the Berzerker Queen was there too? Plus it was my B Team. Fortunately I had a sharpshooter from my A Team filling in and she was the only reason we completed the mission, albeit with one unconscious soldier and another on bleed out.
Shell shocked, i will allways remeber that moment in my last playthrough. The warlock had shell shocked and weakness to reapers, he took cover on a truck, my reaper had remote start, the warlock got one shot killed
4:20 move into rocket is absolutely dogshit for technicals, yes. also... really need steady weapon for the aim bonus to use the rockets. You also REALLY need smgs (better mobility and lower detection radius) if you're gonna use flamethrowers, at least on one guy to get the poggers flamethrower ambush opener (rockets are good as a followup cuz cover destruction + radius whereas flamethrowers... much less so). HOWEVER, if you remove scatter rockets are just OP, their damage potential is nuts because of that huge radius. 17:30 flashbanging the sectoid there is a massive misplay lul. Sectoid has non-zero chance to do psi BS even with this many exposed units... but not when disoriented LOL There is legitimately no universe where it's better to not yolo-rocket the trooper (that's what your explosives are for after all) than to flashbang TWO 1 hp enemies, one of which HAVING PSI AI.

Scatter is reduced by the aim stat, and is significantly increased when you move first. So anything that increases aim and firing your rocket as the first action makes it a lot more manageable. In lw2 this is more manageable because there are a lot more ways to get little aim bonuses (my technicals usually get the pistol ability that removes mobility penalties and then get a laser pistol). Also stocks on the weapons so they can take the steady weapon action for more aim
Also in lw2 there is more variance in unit traits and you can kinda pick and choose who to make a technical. Good mobility/hp make good flamethrower spec and high aim/mobility makes for good rocket spec
Activate quickburn, Rush with technical, use firestorm, most likely than not every single cover near you is gone. Mix with WAR Suit ability+smoke skill and suddenly no one shoots you despite being in middle of a field
