- Can you believe all this food being wasted?! It is so upsetting how much still perfectly good food gets thrown away here in America. We waste approximately 30-40% of our food supply and that is just ridiculous! Oh God will most definitely bless her in return. I see people hating sometimes cause she sells the stuff she finds. She also donates!! So who cares if she sells some items.
It's pathetic. I run a food pantry here in the DC area. I started diving so I can provide food to people in need. Grocery stores just recently stopped donating so now I dive and am able to help 30-45 clients each week

As someone who sometimes has to utilize food pantries at the end of the month, I'll tell you, we do not care if food has expired when we're hungry! I just feel like they should donate it regardless, people who need it know the risks.
Exactly! I dont understand why someone would throw this much of food. And most of the time expiration date is not that important.

Imagine taking the packaged meat and feeding it to your hungry child...it might be cold outside right now, but it could have sat in a garbage bin inside for days before being put in the dumpster. Not worth the risk.
@@analyze2974 I am not really sure what you mean. Not everyone has the resources to go dumpster diving. If you don't have a car options are limited. Or there may be other reasons to why this is not possible for an individual.

as a single mom, I can't tell you how many time I teared up in the store when I didn't have enough money to get what I needed, there were so many programs that I didn't know about, If I would of known about DD It really would of changed my life, I am thankful that I made it through the hard times, my life is so much better now, thank god...You are truly a angel for thinking of others instead of yourself...God Bless you Kelly...

I'm thinking of doing a blog of the places I go and what I get from the churches and food banks and also my local Winn Dixie trash which I can always find something good to eat daily. Then make meals and show that and how much I act have to spend on groc a month whicn is under 50 a month. Would anyone be interested in watching

@@auntlindafl5010 I think that would be eye opening. I would be interested. I remember when we were little we ate a lot of bread and milk with sugar. Also when married in the 60s, we ate a lot of buttered spagetti we do what we have to to survive!
Dear Breakfast, I found you while just scanning TH-cam, and of all the dumpster divers, I have to say you are the sweetest and most sincere of all the dumpster channels.
We do not have dumpsters full of food in my country, as the big chains donate food for charity. Some of our shops will sell food at 50% on it's sell by date, and if I find it, I will buy and freeze.
I hope you continue to find lots of stuff and make money from it and your channel (and share with others that is less fortunate).
I was inspired by you to do my 1st dive~ I'm an artist~ and I found canvas and 5 brand new projector screens in nice black canvas bags, 2 beautiful magazine wracks, a brand new wood crate, and 3 really nice metal easels at one stop~ you truly inspire~ thank you!!!

I watch a lot of these dumpster diving videos and most people do it strictly for profit. It’s so nice that even though you make nothing from doing it, you take the time and energy to donate stuff you find to those in need!!💕❤️

I just wanted to let you know that I cleaned out my pantry and I had some items we just weren't going to use. Because of you mentioning the little pantry in your area, I did a search and found one in my area I donated my pantry items to. I never would have known about it if it wasn't for your videos, Thank you for doing what you do!

Unfortunately I've heard that it is due to people possibly getting sick and then sueing the store. We should pass a law that stores can donate without legal action being pursued
Ali Miller that’s the reason I was told why they don’t donate. There should be some sort of law protecting business from lawsuits while doing charitable acts.
The Federal Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act protects food donators and we’ve had it since 1996 in the usa !

There is no reason other than greed. They use the "if someone gets sick we'll get sued" excuse but that's not the case. The Good Samaritan act protects them from that.

In my local town in Melbourne, Australia we have no waste program where the grocery/supermarket stores donate all there unsellable food products to the churches.
It’s the best way I reckon.
That's awesome. In Victor Harbor, South Australia our local Bakers Delight donates anything they don't sell to a local nursing home.
sharon suba that’s awesome, baker delight down here just give there bread to businesses to feed there chooks and livestock.
I worked for a business that would get it for there chooks, staff would help themselves beforehand.
US is so far behind
I wish this was the case with more. I live in Brisbane and work at a major supermarket who partners with a program to feed the homeless (trying very hard not to use names here lol) and the amount of food that ACTUALLY goes to them is ridiculous. It's tiny. Some days we have 8-10 trolleys overflowing with in store baked bread that can't be sold the next day which ALL GO STRAIGHT INTO OUR DUMPSTER. It's absolutely disgusting. It actually makes me ashamed to work there. They crow about how they're doing so much good feeding the homeless when they're actually doing the bare minimum they possibly can while still making it look to the general public like they're doing something amazing. I used to volunteer for a charity who provided food hampers to clients doing it tough and asked to take this stuff to give to our clients and was told no.
It's such a blessing seeing someone give to the less fortunate people. God bless you all for what you do for other. It's so bad that stores through this stuff away instead of people in need who could use it

Kelly, I found your videos last month and my husband and I regularly watch your videos. We are very big into trying not be wasteful. We recycle everything we can and we donate or sell anything we don’t want anymore, but we know others could use those things. This video was by far one of my favorites so far. I love your giving spirit and kind heart. You are an inspiration to many to not only donate food stuffs, but to just stop being so wasteful in general. Hope you and your hubby have so much fun in Vietnam and I can’t wait to see/hear about your adventures. 💕

Kelly you are an inspiration, I saw your first video on "Little Free Panrty" and checked if we had one in Melbourne Aust. and sure enough we do and one is near me so I went through my pantry and made a trip to add a few items that don't necessarily need heating or plate or bowl to be eaten......I did add some old spoons - reusable shopping bags as well.
I will continue now to buy a couple of extra items each week and drop them off.

The nuts are really good for people in need. They usually cannot afford a lot of protein because carbs are cheaper

Thank goodness for people like you! Stores rather toss than donate the food. My daughter and I recently worked a soup kitchen, they freeze things at date. "If donated by a store". They should all save and freeze anything!

I was an intern for my church the past two summers and we have a small food pantry. I was helping to organize donations and saw first hand how it makes a difference in someone’s life! It’s because of people like you that help others get food in their stomach 💛

Thanks to you. I tried dumpster diving. I found bags of unopened dog food and it was not expired. I was in shock! I plan to donate it to the doggie shelter.
The FDA will not let stores sell past an expired date. It's a liability thing.
Sell...sure. donate? They can be donated, at least in the state I picked up for.
It's still edible. They can still set it to the side or lower the price.
Jojo they can give it to others but you have to go get it. My church does it all the time and brings it for all to take home.

You can really tell when you get frustrated that you can't get anymore items because you have no more room. You look defeated in a way. I love your enthusiasm to help those in need and the love you have for what you do. Plus you encourage others ... Diving is free for everyone!!

As a merchant in Ohio, we are required by law to discard expired or out dated foods. The dates are usually sell by dates and the foods are not bad. I agree with you, it should be donated to anyone in need.

Well it's a shame that people are so sue happy here in the US. You spill got coffee on yourself, boom lawsuit. Instead of being held personally responsible for not taking precautions handling hot coffee they company gets held responsible. Guarentee companies would be more willing to donate if everyone werent looking to make a quick buck off a lawsuit

They need to come up with a clause that releases liability on donated items like food etc...kind of like the Good Samaritan clause for emt and medical staff that are off duty but required to stop at accidents and then ended up getting sued for doing their job...

You inspired me this morning. I went out this morning looking for every dumpster. First one I dropped my keys scared me but I got it thank goodness it fell underneath. Anyway I found a pile of books I donated to the library that’s selling books for .25 cents and lots pens also two old wallets not sure I’m gonna keep it. Thank you for your videos.

I use to work at a small town Walmart super center in grocery inventory control.When I started there, we threw all damaged and out of date products in to the trash compactor. One day our supervisor had us place all of the expired and damaged food into a grocery cart . He then took it to the store manager and showed him how much good food was going to waste all because of a date on a label or damaged packaging. It took a bit more convincing but our manager finally agreed to donate all of our expired and damaged foods to our local food bank. Plus our local Hy-Vee was already doing the same thing. He didn't want to be looked down on by the community for not helping the less fortunate.

I volunteered at a food pantry, and they had people go around to stores that had agreed to donate. There isn't enough staff, often, to run the donations to all the food pantries in our area.

My response was as to why groceries etc. don't automatically donate to food banks, or to nursing homes, for that matter. I was not addressing the donations by the TH-camr.
Groceries do donate near-expired food to pantries. If it makes it to the dumpster there’s a reason.

Anna KW I work at a grocery store and we throw out plenty of perfectly good food- usually it’s something as minor as the packaging not being up to standard. Our bakery throws out all of the leftover bread goods from the day before because it’s not “fresh”. Don’t be so rude.

She’s a beautiful human being who does dumpster diving and the food she grabbed was expired by one day and she brought it to the Little Pantry in town that helps serve those people in dire need. It’s not garbage! I have great admiration for how this helps other people and it also is a decline in what’s being brought to landfills. Treat others how you’d like to be treated with respect, if not, you will reap what you sow.
If there were more people like you in this world we would be in a very better world. You have such a big heart ❤️

Love the “Little Free Pantry”, until you’re last video I didn’t know they existed. Turns out Perth Western Australia has them. I have 20 chickens and get more eggs than we can eat. So I donate some each week and sell the rest very cheap just to recoup the chicken feed bill.

I noticed a bunch of unused plastic bags in the dumpster where you got all the food bars... save them!! You are such a sweet kid to care for others... keep up the good work. Be kind. It is contagious!!
you can always freeze bread products and then just defrost in the fridge when you want to use them. we don't use a lot of bread in our home so that's what we do ALL the time to extend the life/cut down on waste. i never keep bread out of the fridge/freezer now 😂
Yeah and frozen sliced bread will go right into the toaster and defrost/toast in one go!

Your not suppose to do that because the mold can grow quickly and cause the bread to rapidly begin staling bread doesn't have a long self life

@@For3v3rYoung13 I tested it last semester when I baked chabbata bread by keeping it in freezer wrapped tight it still grew mold and also had freezer burn .

I just freeze the bread that’s “out of date”
They don’t donate bc of sanitation reasons. But Walmart will freeze the bread and put in boxes till the food bank comes

Our small town USA grocery store donates to our food pantry. You have such a gracious heart. You are doing God’s work,taking care of others.
I was curious about all the product also. One day I was watching someone diving at a pet store. There was so much dog food that was tossed out, both dry and canned.
Soooooo. I found the phone number of the company. I called and asked why they would t donate instead of trashing all the dog food.
They were very nice, and told me they don’t control that. It is up to
the franchise to decide what to do with overage product.

This is true for nearly every chain store. Corporate decides and the workers will get in trouble if found to e doing anything but that.
That was so COOL!! you stocked the free pantry! our little free pantry is full of clothes and such! It was very windy and storming here a few days ago. I did take a knitted hat that somebody's grandma made. Thank you kind lady!!!

I live in Oklahoma and stores in my area deeply discount foods to sell out of date foods. There is anew grocery store in Oklahoma City where for every dollar you spend you can get that amount of food from a section of FREE foods that are past their sell by dates. Can't use it then you can donate the receipt or give it away to someone in need. They can then shop the free aisles.
It's a about law suits. If someone gets sick or say they got sick from any donated stuff from a grocery store, there's a law suit.

Without them knowing who you are, maybe you can call and ask if it might be possible for you to pick up donations once or twice a week and let them know where it is that you always donate it. If they are willing, it could possibly save you a bit of time as they’d already have it boxed and ready for you.

That seems a good idea.....in New Zealand Stores Cafe and Supermarkets can register and donate food at the end of the day where it is picked up by Volunteers who take it to a central place where it is sorted, cooked and distributed to those who need 👍

In Minnesota there is an organization called Second Harvest. They pick up food from grocery stores that is past it’s sell by date. It is then donated to food shelves in the state.

Me too! Yes I too am baffled about all the food that is thrown out!!! CASINOS are notorious for this!!! I worked at one and know this first hand!! Made me sick to see all the waste!! I had to quit!! Let's get some laws enacted.

My little town has one outside the library I give it lots of things, with it so cold I took a look through my closet and donated some hoodies and blankets that we had piled up
