Great set-up Matthew! My wife bought me the Husky 6-foot work bench. Mine has the stainless-steel work top. She paid $1,200 at Home Depot. I just rolled mine up into my utility trailer. They've got a whole section with about 30 benches already assembled. Thanks for the great content! Blessings!!!

Matt, I love it! I do own a snap on 72” and I have matching cabinet. However, Home Depot boxes weren’t the quality they are now when I purchased mine. Couple guys at work have them, and they are nice. Nice video!

Love this! Need to clean the left side of my shop and add this in there.
That Purple Heart will lose its color sitting in that cabinet though. But nothing a little sunlight won’t fix!

Try purchasing that setup from a tool truck, Snap-On, Matco, etc.
You’d have to take out a second mortgage on your house.
Easily 10 times that price, possibly more!

You do a great job explaining. Thanks!
IDEA - perhaps you might put one or two of the thin style fans to put a positive flow of air gently pushing out the gaps. You also might want to put a filter of some type on the outside of the fan.

I got the 84”… going back.. the shipping icompanion had it unsecured in the back of a uhaul truck and it’s on wheels. It was so bent up, the drawers would not open.. it waited a month to get it, it was back ordered. It will take a week to get picked up and 2 more after they to ship to a store (not risking a shipping issue again) one day, I will have one

This may have already been suggested, but adding some foam weather stripping to the sides and bottom of the hutch door would probably cut down on dust leakage as well as providing some cushioning for when you bump your head.

That is a great setup. If it was me I would put some rubber seal ( similar what they use around doors and windows) and put it around where there is gaps showing around the hutch. then for the top lid where it sticks out, use a thicker rubber seal or maybe try a pool noodle or pipe insulation. another way you could deal with the lid hitting your head, remove the casters and build a wood base for the unit to sit on. since the casters are 6", maybe try making the base around 10"-12" height. One of the nice features having it on the base is nothing can't roll under the unit and you won't get dust build up too.

    Howdy Mr. 731...
Nice video. Was this from your new editor?
I gotta say, my jaw dropped when ya mentioned the cost...Holy Shister!!!
Hope ya don't mind me pointing out a possible safety issue.
Unless I'm mistaken, looks like ya got your "flammables" in the left hand side with electricals on either side of that...cnc and power strip.
Though I doubt anything will happen, fumes could possibly build up inside.
Solution: A hole drilled in the back side/top area. Small USB powered computer fan mounted at the hole. Small hole drilled at the backside bottom. Fan stays on 24/7 and pulls fresh air into that cabinet. Any fumes that might build up is exhausted into the workshop and diluted.
    Just a thought

I've commented before that I've been a Diesel Mechanic/AutoTech/Body Man (I've worn a lot of different 'hats' in my 37yrs in the industry.) My main toolbox is a Snap On, also have a Snap On small box, and my primary toolbox/cart is an old Matco. (Made before toolbox quality became what it is now.) I just wanted to say how much the price you paid for your setup hurts my feelings. My current setup would cost $30,000.00 in today's devalued currency.
I say all that to say that Huskies come a long way. And I wouldn't buy a Snap-On and Matco again if I was replacing all of my toolboxes I'd probably just go to Home Depot or Lowe's and get Husky. No one paid me for my opinion on toolbox quality either.

    • @thebkg
      @thebkg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's more than likely less of a Home Depot problem and more of the reality that is our trucking and distribution system nationwide right now. These are issues everyone is dealing with. It started with the Shipping Lanes being backed up at the docks unable to offload because there weren't enough dock workers to offload, and not enough Truckers to transport the containers from the docks. This issue isn't getting near enough coverage from Mainstream News which is why many Americans are unaware that this is still a real crisis at the moment.

It’s a really nice set up, and looks great too! I made my garage cabinets which are probably 5x as many cabinets and drawers as you have, but the point is, you’ll eventually fill up as many cabinets and drawers you can make or buy. If your like me, you probably have a lot of stuff you never use, but you can’t just throw it away so you store it in drawers and cabinets.

Good information, Matt. I like the set-up. Could you attach some sort of neoprene material to the hutch door to close the gap some? At least at the bottom. Might also help when you bash your head on it. May not look quite as clean with it, so just a thought.

Great review. About the locks… unlock and pitch the keys. I have a craftsman red rollaway purchased in the 80s. Lived in many places, lost the keys decades ago. I figure a decent drill and 1/2 bit unlocks any toolbox out there. As you know from your history the bad guys know this too. Nice that you have the option but in reality…

For the bottom gap on the hutch door, I bet a door sweep (or two because of the width) would do wonders for keeping out dust. The sides are a little more challenging, but maybe some insulation tape strategically positioned along the sides would work.

Got a very cool table saw jigs video filmed and being edited now. Should be out in a week or so. I wanted to post a detailed review of this box for anyone looking at these Husky set ups because I couldn't find a review that covered it. So, really it was more for folks in the market for Husky boxes, woodworkers or others. This video also served a second purpose. My video editor quit unexpectedly a couple weeks ago and I used this video as a test edit for 3 potential editors. So it helped me choose the one that best fit my style and needs for the channel moving forward. Hope that helps to make sense of my thinking on it.

I would throw a long sheet of 3/4" plywood across the top. That would transfer any weight from the center to the two towers. That way you could throw anything you wanted up there and not worry about scratching the metal.
Also, If you don't need to move it around bolt it to the wall for extra safety.

  • @thebigdoghimself

I ended up with newage pro cabinets and I regret my purchase. I wish I had gone with 3 of this type of rolling cabinets. The newage base cabinets have 5 drawers, 4 of which are a little over 3" deep. The problem is you really do need shallow drawers for everything from chisels to wrenches and screwdrivers, otherwise you run out of room because you end up wasting a ton of space by putting shallow items in a deep drawers.
