  • In today's video we will be unboxing the husky tool box 52 inch. For many years now the craftsman has served its purpose well but we have ougrown it and replaced it with this husky tool chest 52 inch. So far it appears to be a great rolling tool box.

    I do automotive for a living. Bought the Husky 52" in January and it's been great so far. Not sure if I should blame it on thin metal or "lower quality", but one thing I noticed recently is the bigger bottom drawer making contact with the welds on the very bottom of the box. I do have some weight in that drawer but it is not jam packed. I had to remove the drawer and grind off a little bit of the welds (don't remember if it was 2 or 3) so it does not make contact anymore when opening and closing the drawer

    I've been looking at the other box you mentioned with the dual power strips and LED. I like the drawer layout of the one you have a little better since on the other one the 3rd drawer down on the right top has a "workstation" which I think limits the use of the drawer by providing a lid inside the drawer. The other differences between the 2 is the one you have has slightly thinner gauge steel (19) vs the other (18). The dual power strip has 4 outlets and 2 USB per side. I will am waiting for a sale to pick up mine but will be getting the thicker gauge steel and the extra power strip and LED for an extra $100 as they suit my needs more.
    Congrats on the purchase and thanks for the review.

      I wasn’t a fan of the folding drawer top either. I tried to be patient and wait for a sale but it seemed like the prices just kept going higher. I hope you are able to buy it at a reduced price. 👍

      I just bought the one you are referencing with the LED (H52CH6TR9HDV3) which I believe is the older model being replaced by the one in the vid (H52CH6TR9HDV4). I called Husky who gave me the manufacturer (or importer as it were) who confirmed the V3 is being discontinued. Another great piece of info they gave is the newer V4 version is 1.5" shorter in depth so the drawers are more shallow. I was lucky to find the V3 in stock (it has been out of stock for a week) and picking up on Friday. The less shallow drawers were a deal breaker for me. The V3 is $100 more but suits my needs better. Just hope it is in good shape as I won't find out until unbox it at home.

      The newer box is about 100 lbs lighter than the older one, probably due to the 19 gauge material instead of 18 gauge and the shorter length of drawers. Both are nice boxes. Currently the older one is still around for $1198 and the newer one is $798. It'd be a hard decision to make if I were looking into one.

    Nice tool box! I have a husky that's about 15 years old. Still working great! I also had a kobalt box from Lowes that I grew out of. Solid boxes for a home garage or diyer. Or even a new mechanic starting out.

      The Craftsman has served me well. I hope the Husky lasts 15 years and beyond like the Craftsman has.

    glad to see this comparison. I have a very similar 3 level craftsman tool chest similar to yours and im outgrowing it. Want to seperate automotve tools from woodworking and general purpose tools. Gonna check out the tool transfer vid next! thx

    I was really wanting the new 52” craftsman set on sale for $798 but I heard the drawers bend and the larger ones only have one track slider unlike the husky with thicker drawers and double sliders on the larger ones… so I’m thinking this husky is actually the way to go…

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was actually in Home Depot the other day and prices were reduced to $800 from $1,100-1,200! Made me a little mad because I kept wanting for the price to drop.

      @@ThriftyGarage do you think it would be worth it to get the craftsman at that $800 price over the husky? The husky is still like $1100 but not on sale

    After a whole year of use, what are ur cons with this box?? I have been eyeing this box and just missed the Christmas sale for 798 bc I was told February was the time to buy the cheapest boxes, but it went back up to 1098. Does it scratch up easily? Thanks

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No really big complaints. Overall really love the box. Like you I regretted my purchase price. It actually fell ~$200 after I purchased so a little bit of buyers remorse. But in all honesty I’d pay $1,500 for this box. The only slight issue I have is sometimes the large (widest) drawer doesn’t want to pull out evenly. It has all of my 1/4 and 3/8 ratchets and sockets. It still functions fine but the left ball bearings seem to track slightly behind the right ones. I’m not sure if it’s a weight distribution issue or what.
      I would say it’s pretty durable. That said, my shop is small and it does have small chip from a door ding. I’ll try to upload a TH-cam Short today so you can see what I’m talking about

    Side note, that's not a grease zerk on the casters.

    when you bought the setup, did the keys match the locks on BOTH the bottom and top? its been 6 months. can you add any comments to your review? TY for the video.

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t know that I can say I tried the keys in the locks (I’ll try to look). I don’t plan on using them and probably haven’t even tried. It’s a home box so that’s not important to me. So far it has been great! Only regret is the $200-300 savings I have seen if I would have waited 3-6 months to purchase.

    Thanks for the video, I ended up buying the 61” heavy duty and love it. Only problem is the casters. If I roll it they clunk every foot or so one I loaded it full of tools. Almost like they are bent? I called and got a new caster thinking it was just one caster but still make that terrible noise. Maybe it’s the bottom of the box itself idk. I have had my wife push it while I try and see what wheel it is but hard to pin point why it clucks so bad. Maybe I will just get new casters. I do see there is a grease spot on the wheels. Should I spend the money and get a grease
    Thanks

      Just put mine together and it’s doing the same thing like you just mentioned. It sounds like the caster is bent and making a loud clunk.

    I bought this yesterday at Home Depot for $798, NIB. Does anybody know if there are storage pieces that attach to the rail in the top compartment?
