I LOVE this interviewer! He actually LISTENS and lets Terry do all the talking. What a concept! The interview is about the person being interviewed, not about the interviewer. And when Mitch Gallagher does interject, he actually knows what he's talking about and helps move the interview along without breaking the flow--you know, just like Terry is talking about when he plays with other musicians--LISTEN!!! Best interview I've heard in a very long time!
Entertainment business = ADHD, so no wonder they can't interview people. "Neurotypical people" aren't interested in being in the entertaiment business. Maybe you guys should apply for those jobs instead? I would love to see you guys. Not trying to be an ass or something. I mean it. I'm also tired of interviewers with extreme ADHD behaviours when it's all "me me me".
Unfortunately, fanboys are attracted to interviewing. Musicians should interview musicians, but hard to give up focus on music. Also, most of us are probably too shy!
Yeah he's definitely one of the most interesting Zappa alumni I've heard interviewed. There are also interviews with Ed Mann and Mike Kenealley (sp) on a channel called Dooner's World if you maybe wanna see them.
Mitch has got to be one of the best interviewers I've ever seen. He is so prepared and versatile and deep in his knowledge. Plus he really follows the artist's thoughts and gets to the next great question to keep them going.
Wow. Just wow. I've loved Terry's drumming since the days of Missing Persons. I had no idea how evolved a human being he has also become, not to mention while being one of the greatest drummers alive today. This interview has been pure joy to watch. Thank you :)
Hello all. I will echo what Todd Reid said so well. I stumbled upon this video and it almost brought me to tears. Why? The humility. The passion. The honesty. The WISDOM of this inimitable musician. I wish all of my former students would invest the time to check out this superb interview. Mitch Gallagher absolutely handled the questions and responses perfectly. This is the holy grail right here in my humble opinion. Terry Bozzio is so adept at talking about what REALLY matters about creating and interpreting music. Nugget after nugget of empirical knowledge. His attention to detail in this conversation is staggering. It is so inspiring to take this in. I will watch it again soon, when I need more inspiration. One of my all-time favorite Bozzio performances is 'Behind the veil' from Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop. It is staggering how musical he is on this otherworldly track. All of them are. Beck, Bozzio, and the superb Tony Hymas. I hope people that are fumbling through a standard Bozzio search spend the time to watch this. Not snippets. You will only be cheating yourself. Watch it all. It WILL enrich your music if you are a writer. I am absolutely prone to hyperbole like everyone else. But not here. It's better than good. It's vital. Thanks to Bozzio and Gallagher for this little jewel. I hope it inspires y'all like it did me. Thank you.
Amazing musician, with a very distincive sound. You can tell Terry's playing just by hearing the cymballs, if you know what I mean. And Mitch, as expected by now, is one of greatest interviewers of our times. Thank you both!
Brilliant! I love to hear how he has them set up around him by types of sounds notes and textures! A True musician that shares his passion through clinics and amazing performance!🎶 I've been a fan since the early 80's!
I mainly know of Terry from Zappa and Missing Persons. This interview made me aware of the vast body of work that Terry has done that I have not explored and have sadly missed. What an amazing and wonderful person. God bless him. He will make a great addition to the worship team in heaven someday.
This interview is SO good, and Terry is so enthusiastic about his work, that throughout the whole video I kept pausing it, opening a new window, watching one of his bands/projects, and returning to the interview.
Of all his mountain of work my fav will always be the U.K. albums. And the ride in his U.K. set up was used perfectly where it’s use really stands out as a refreshing aesthetic at a time when it was relied on as a massive crutch. Very happy to see him bring it back w/Holdsworth Levin Masteletto
Very interesting insights there. Great interview with a great drummer by a great interviewer! Letting Terry speak and then moving it on with knowledgable questions. Thanks ! :-)
That is the biggest Drum kit I’ve ever seen! And I swear Terry Bozzio is like an Octopus because he is so fast but he only has two arms! Amazing Percussionist! One of the Greats!
the most honest ,and enlightening interview Ive seen with him ....talks about wanting to be a Phil collins ..didnt pan out.. ...interesting person and musician
I'm glad he talked a little about Missing Persons. Cause he doesn''t speak of that band very much. Which is understandable, plus personal issues came into play at that time. But I remember when he went Electronic and was thinking How am I going to execute this behind my kit. (This was when I was a lot younger) Then the next album came out and noticed he went back which I was happy about. But man what an innovator he was. He was the first drummer I had seen that started stacking Cymbal which is now a common practice, and when he did the Guitar Center jam for Mark Craney and everyone was tripping out on his kit that was already set up when we walked in. He had the Remo Spokes as a hi hat and other spoxes all around his kit with ringing chime sound. He was on fire that day. I totally admire his playing since the U.K. albums. Great guy too.
Good times. I was taking lessons from Terry then, as I remember the semi truck was stolen, so his new digital drum kit was taken. Don’t think it was ever found.
What a cool guy. Now that’s a real musician. So interesting to watch right after seeing him drumming in an old early eighties video with Missing Persons.
Referring to Dale Bozzio as the eye candy element of Missing Persons was rather mean. I thought she was a great singer, and obviously hugely influential in her own right.
I went to my first MP gig to see the semi-naked singer & quickly went to Terry’s side on the right where I found the true eye & ear candy - it was like watching David Bowie on drums
Right in the beginning I thought; What the hell? Terry´s got a China-cymbal big as a kitchen-table right in front over his toms...crazy even for him...
Crazy but I will never forget when I saw Bozio in concert in FW Tex. I was wearing black busttia and he lipped meet me after the show. I was with boyfriend at the time but we went to RB after the show and got kiss from him. Great guy ! Blessings and hope career is still going strong Wow! The memories
Funny that Zappa always labled Steve Vai as "Stunt Guitar" on all his alblums but now that I think of it, he should have labeld Terry as "Stunt DRUMMER" as well. Zappa always wanted people in his band that were no less than the best at what they do or those who played differently than everyone else.Terry Bozzio certainly hit those marks more so than anyone else. He doesn't just keep a rhythm or a beat, he really does play musical notes from each finely tuned drum.A real talent and true original!
One of (probably THE) best drummer in the bizz..now Living!!!! Steve: please get in touch w/Terry, Devin and TM again and make a 2nd Vai-record the four of you were a force !!!!!
I see that gigantic kit at the beginning of the video and think to myself, "I could split up that kit into 6 smaller kits, and they would still look jaw-droppingly massive!"
What does it all mean..I guess he gets his equipment for free..lol..hes honest in this interview about age and ego..I saw him early in his career and thought he overplayed everything...great guy and honest player with phenomenal chops !
Be careful venturing into that drum kit. If you get lost they'll have to send a search party to find and you might be in there for one of two days before you get rescued. Bring supplies.
I saw this interview and an interview with Dale, and it's clear why they became a couple. However, Dale admitted she was all about investing in the music when (as she said) she had to invest in the relationship as well.

Was thinking exactly the same thing !
Absolutely one of the best interviews I've ever heard.
Entertainment business = ADHD, so no wonder they can't interview people. "Neurotypical people" aren't interested in being in the entertaiment business. Unfortunately, fanboys are attracted to interviewing. Musicians should interview musicians, but hard to give up focus on music. Also, most of us are probably too shy!
Bozzio's perspective should be heard by all musicians. Brilliant guy, great history.
Great interview. Funny how the genuine talents like Terry are so humble, thoughtful and generous.
What a fascinating, fascinating man. Intelligent, articulate, humble, and very interesting. And a brilliant musician, too.
Yeah he's definitely one of the most interesting Zappa alumni I've heard interviewed. There are also interviews with Ed Mann and Mike Kenealley (sp) on a channel called Dooner's World if you maybe wanna see them.

One of the best musician interviews I've ever watched. Just honest and down to earth. Thanks!
My God Mitch, you are the interviewer supreme and/or Terry Bozzio is the best most interesting subject ever. Great results , thank you,
Wow. Just wow. I've loved Terry's drumming since the days of Missing Persons. I had no idea how evolved a human being he has also become, not to mention while being one of the greatest drummers alive today. This interview has been pure joy to watch. Thank you :)
I have a new and deep appreciation for Terry after having watched this.
Wow...
Bravo man, bravo.
Fascinating..what a REAL musician
Fantastic interview; thanks Mitch!
I’m in the process of getting reacquainted with Terry’s work, stumbled upon this fantastic interview! Thank you Mitch! 👏🏼

There is a gold nugget here every two minutes
Well done. That was a lovely interview.
This was wonderful.
Thank you for sharing the interview and the performance.
Bozzio is amazing. A great musician and person.
Wow this video is great. I love how terry talks about music and playing the drums.
Very interesting insights there. Great interview with a great drummer by a great interviewer!
Letting Terry speak and then moving it on with knowledgable questions. Thanks ! :-)
Mitch, never change. Your the only Interviewer that does it Right.
That is the biggest Drum kit I’ve ever seen! And I swear Terry Bozzio is like an Octopus because he is so fast but he only has two arms! Amazing Percussionist! One of the Greats!
I needed to hear Terry say all this. What a Great Interview. TY!
the most honest ,and enlightening interview Ive seen with him ....talks about wanting to be a Phil collins ..didnt pan out.. ...interesting person and musician
Definitely a rare interview that is very inspiring!
"I don't think I'm doing anything new..." Humbling Genius! gotta love Bozzio!!!
Great interview, Terry is a very smart and articulated guy.
This channel is amazing and deserves more recognition. Great work, and thank you for these videos!
Zappa appreciated you bozzio. Great interview. Thanks man.
GREAT interview! Thank you!
Great interview, fascinating to hear a little more about Bozzio.
He mentioned Mick Karn from Japan, that's amazing! Thank you for these interviews :)
Terry is always the artist!!
Terri bozzio is so cool and he’s deeper than the ocean... man. So glad he wanted to chat.
Thanks for a great interview.
Fascinating, I love Terry!
Can you hear him? Do you care?
Hell yeah to both.
I'm glad he talked a little about Missing Persons. Cause he doesn''t speak of that band very much. Which is understandable, plus personal issues came into play at that time. yep, he called he the lead singer and his wife eye candy
Was also at Guitar Center drum charity-Terry’s kit freaked me out - and I came to see him.
Bissonette was also amazing that day.
Good times. I was taking lessons from Terry then, as I remember the semi truck was stolen, so his new digital drum kit was taken. Don’t think it was ever found.
Terry, man, write your autobiography!
One of the best in the bizz......E*V*E*R !!!!
Terry: please get in touch w/Jeff Beck , again- the two of you were a force !!!!!
Awesome interview. Thank you
Terry is the man!! Love his work with Zappa especially!
It was funny how Zappa said "now that's an example of what NOT to do on stage". . LOL
Great interviewer..
Wow, I just left four comments......Terry explains stuff drummers need.
What a cool guy. Now that’s a real musician. So interesting to watch right after seeing him drumming in an old early eighties video with Missing Persons.
Good interview, I really have missed Terry's move from high school into college. Good stuff to know. Terry and Neil Peart were both later starters.
Amazing interview
Very insightful interview
Great interview.
Always been a student and fan of Terry.
GREAT INTERVIEW
great interview
Truly inspirational!
All the interview parts were very good. I only know Terry Bozzio from Frank Zappa and You Tube Interviews. Terry is exceptional.
Well we know how he feels about Dale, so it’s not surprising.
@@eis904 I didn't know. Now I do.
Hearing how Terry puts it together.......60s and 70s.
"Terry Tad is really sweet. Watch the way he keep the Beat." Bozzio, you're one of the best.
Download, check. Will rewatch.
Mitch really is a generous interviewer.
Right in the beginning I thought; What the hell? Terry´s got a China-cymbal big as a kitchen-table right in front over his toms...crazy even for him...
One of my top 5 recordings of all time is Ri now Robertson’s first solo record.
Crazy but I will never forget when I saw Bozio in concert in FW Tex.
I was wearing black busttia and he lipped meet me after the show.
I was with boyfriend at the time but we went to RB after the show and got kiss from him. Great guy !

That drum set...holy crap!!
Amazing!
One of (probably THE) best drummer in the bizz..now Living!!!!
Steve: please get in touch w/Terry, Devin and TM again and make a 2nd Vai-record the four of you were a force !!!!!
MY FAVORITE DRUMMER EVER!
Such a nice person!
A down to earth guy
"If I get any better, it might alienate me more." There's so much in that comment I don't know how to unpack it.
Terry playing with Zappa ? Listen to Hammersmith Odeon 78 , Magnificent !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see that gigantic kit at the beginning of the video and think to myself, "I could split up that kit into 6 smaller kits, and they would still look jaw-droppingly massive!"
and when you, Terry played the drums, that was the day drums changed.
Mr bozzio is a drum genius is a music scientist
Yes, ELP, Genesis........all dinosaurs.........and there is a place for one more. My UK Ultimate boxset just arrived.
Is that the Blu Ray ? The cd w/extra tracks is amazing
What does it all mean..I guess he gets his equipment for free..lol..hes honest in this interview about age and ego..I saw him early in his career and thought he overplayed everything...great guy and honest player with phenomenal chops !
Sad he mentions Mick Karn who passed away recently... I would have loved to see those two riff.
Most "old" stars seem so humble compare to most today's stars...oh well
Damn, Terry is getting big!
In his current music, I get Moon Dog vibes, great fun.
OMG.:-) :-) :-) What A drum set
rush could keep going with this guy. Chip Barkhouse The Drummist
Be careful venturing into that drum kit. If you get lost they'll have to send a search party to find and you might be in there for one of two days before you get rescued. Bring supplies.
Wondering what kind of drum kit did terry used in the 80’s. Couldn’t tell it had a black sheet over the drum kit 🧑🎤👩🎤 🥁🤔
Tama snare and bass drums - Remo roto toms
Genius...
Never try to play it all at once. He actually said that.
Does anybody know why him and Dale split up?
I saw this interview and an interview with Dale, and it's clear why they became a couple. However, Dale admitted she was all about investing in the music when (as she said) she had to invest in the relationship as well.
Nice
Something tells me he refused to sell out.
Have you seen his transformation from Zappa band to missing persons? His time with MP he was a total sellout.
"Vitamin E and all the B's, he's so cool he'll make ya freeze … " ;)
virtuoso!!
He was amazing with zappa
shit man thats what i was thinking.
just a thought...why hasn't someone moved the rims to the drum interior or gotten rid of them completely ...shit...there goes my latest invention $
funny that a Mitch Mitchell lick was too 'out' for Zappa
Interesting interview, but I don't think he has gotten over his divorce from Dale. Referring to her as the "eye candy"?
Or maybe a little envious of her being the star and icon of the band.
