2019 Chevrolet Blazer - The Bigger Better Equinox

  • Chevy is rejoining the mid-sized 2-row crossover battle by resurrecting the Blazer name for their latest CUV. Most closely related to the Cadillac XT5, you could also look at the Blazer as a right-sized Traverse. Similar to the Santa Fe a 4-cylinder engine is standard but shoppers can opt for a powerful 3.6L V6 and 9-speed automatic as well. With driving dynamics clearly focused for on-road driving, GM clearly has the average shopper in their sights.

      I agree. At that price, I would rather get a Grand Cherokee Summit. I get a much more premium interior, more truck for that money, and American built. GM must really not want this car to sell.

    • @BoopSnoot
      @BoopSnoot 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They aren't selling for $10K off according to Edmunds TMV. However, a FWD Blazer RS has an average selling price of $41,150 after destination and fees. The trick is avoiding the "enhanced convenience and confidence" package, which is 3.5K bucks. Personally, I don't like all that active safety tech, that's what my brain is for, and its free.

    Nice crossover, but the pricing isn't great at all considering the size of the infotainment screen and even the screen looks washed out and dull rather than being punchy. There's also a lot of brittle looking plastics on the interior.
    I do like the smooth reving powerful V6 engine and like the turbine design air-vents for the front passengers. That panoramic roof is also nice to have.

    Hello Alex, Another Great 1st look at the Blazer. I was really hoping when I heard this was coming out that GM would of made this a lot more of a special vehicle to compete with the Murano. or the High Powered Cherokee. Either very luxury, or Sporty or even both with trims. But to me a Fully Loaded High country Factory optioned Traverse is a lot more vehicle for the same money. And we know the discounts on the Traverse will be. Lot higher. The High Country Slathers Leather on just about all surfaces. I just think it would of been great to see a Special Trim showing off it’s Name coming back.

This is probably a pretty nice car for $35K and $5 on my right marble says that’s likely close to what the RS trim will sell for after rebates and discounts in a year or two.

I don’t know anyone that shops by combined legroom. I’ve never been in or seen anyone complain about front legroom. The issue has always been and continues to be rear legroom. If you want to showcase combined legroom that’s fine but for those of us shopping could you also breakout what the rear legroom looks like? Keep up the great work 🍻

      They do that so that low IQ people think "OMG I GOT $10K OFF MSRP" and their used vehicle sales can say "OMG THIS LOW MILEAGE ONE IS $15K OFF MSRP" and feel like they got a really good deal, even though its completely normal and expected that the vehicles will sell for thousands under invoice. I hate it, and really wish all manufacturers would 1) Offer direct to consumer sales, avoiding dealership fees and hassle and 2) Have fixed pricing, no haggle, just the best price they can offer and everyone gets that price.

    Looks good....but I’m trying to figure out why I’d buy this over a truck at that price tag.

    • @gorkyd7912
      @gorkyd7912 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would buy a 2000 4Runner for 1/8th the price over this Blazer. 4Runner looks better, better outside visibility without the dumb slit windows, cheaper to maintain, RWD with real 4wd or AWD if you get the right trim, better ground clearance, tows more, hauls more, stronger frame / suspension, more cargo room, more modding options, same MPG. Blazer is probably faster but honestly we don't drive SUVs for their speed, that tends to flip them over.

    This is quite nice for a Chevy! Problem is that a fully loaded awd Premiere trim checks in at 51K. You can buy a loaded RDX for that price. Even the Kia Sorento with a nicer interior, better seats and a mini third row maxes out at 45K. I think you gotta be a Chevy lover to buy this!

    • @JBM425

      After GM rebates and incentives, you will likely be paying closer to what the Sorento goes for… definitely less than the RDX.

    • @stevebourguignon6333
      @stevebourguignon6333 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not to offend you here but top of the line premiere would be $43895 add awd for $2900 and add tax I don’t see where you came up with 56000? Unless sales tax is 20% in your state it will be topped in California at around 50k before discount and rebate so I expect average shopper would spend less than 40k for mid trim and low 40k for premiere trim.

    • @dkk4169
      @dkk4169 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve Bourguignon No offense taken. Just going by what Alex said, but just to see for myself I spec’d a premier awd model on edmunds. With the hit the road package, rear infotainment package, the sun and wheels package, the driver confidence package, and the optional $500 paint the msrp was $55,000 before tax and license. In so cal, we usually estimate10% for sales tax and license. So you’re looking at approximately $60K for the top trim blazer with the desirable options. That’s a lot of money for a truck/suv that I recall used to be a fairly entry level model for Chevy.

      @gorkyd7912 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL. Well it costs more, has far worse MPG, has worse reputation for reliability, and will undoubtedly have lower resale value. Other than losing on all the important metrics... Blazer upsets Honda somehow.

      @@gorkyd7912 only in your little mind. Most Chevy's cost much less than their Honda counterparts which means they depreciate less.

    • @gorkyd7912
      @gorkyd7912 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@normt5463 Really? Which Chevys cost much less? And why do you think that means they depreciate less? A few hundred dollars difference in a price of $30K+ means absolutely nothing when you'll be getting thousands less when you resell in 10 years.
      Example, 2010 Honda Pilot EX with AWD original MSRP was $32,345 according to Auto Trader. At KBB, with typical mileage of 119,395, now sells for $10,848 = 33.54% of original MSRP.
      2010 Chevrolet Traverse LS with AWD original MSRP was $31,224. With typical mileage of 108,970, now sells for $8,844 = 28.32% of original MSRP. The highest trim 2010 Traverse was $39,985, highest trim 2010 Pilot was $40,245... $260 is not a major difference in starting MSRP. But cheapest Traverse trim was $29,224, cheapest Pilot was $27,895... so the Honda was available for cheaper, actually.
      Obviously long-term reliability is a hard determine but I've never heard a single mechanic EVER recommend any Chevrolet car or SUV for their reliability...EVER, in my entire life. Whereas I've heard many, many that recommend Toyota (esp. older ones) and a few that recommend Honda and Subaru. The 2010 Traverse gets 3.7 stars from owners vs 4.4 for the Pilot. Or just look at how many miles are on the used cars for sale. There's a 2003 Pilot listed with 378,728 miles on it, and there's 9 total above 300k right now. The highest mileage Traverse for sale is a 2010 with 277,301 miles. So let's try the Equinox because there's 18,303 listings (vs only 8000 Pilots) and out of 18,303 for sale only 1 Equinox has over 300k miles. ...Because they're shit.

      @@gorkyd7912 minus the Pilot timing belt and water pump every 100,000 miles for another $1,000. Throw in a extra transmission for all Honda V6'a during it's life, car or SUV, along with the rusting and the Japanese just do not make the case for the smaller SUV compared to domestic SUVs and crossovers.

    Saw this at the Detroit Auto Show. I was impressed, it looks very, very good in person. I'm a fan of the split headlight design that we see on this, the and the upcoming Hyundai Palisade and new Kia Soul. The chrome treatment up front is interesting too as it's much more integrated into the form of the vehicle instead of a shiny ornamental garnish we're used to seeing. The small color-banded bits on the seats and dash are tasteful too.
